HTC One M9 and Samsung Galaxy S6 retail pricing revealed

samsung-galaxy-s6-featured

One piece of information left out of the recent announcements of the upcoming flagships from HTC and Samsung was the price of the new hotness. Fortunately, thanks to contests from HTC and T-Mobile, we now have an answer for both.

The HTC One M9 will retail for $599, which is precisely what you would expect given that the One M8 retailed for the same price in most locations last year. Obviously on contract you should expect to shell out the standard $199.

The Samsung Galaxy S6, on the other hand, isn’t quite as predictable as the One M9, it has moved on up since last year with the change to a sealed metallic frame and the $699 retail price reflects that move. This is a $100 bump from last year’s Galaxy S5, and it becomes questionable whether we will see on contract pricing at $199 or $299. Of course, this doesn’t include the Galaxy S6 Edge, which will likely summon at least a $50 — and more likely $100 — premium on the standard Galaxy S6.

Realizing that most people aren’t swayed too greatly by the full retail pricing of a phone due to on-contract pricing and the proliferation of monthly payment options like JUMP! and Edge, does the $100 premium for the Galaxy S6 sway your opinion on which flagship you might go for this year?

I have a work contract so I buy my own phone sim free of Ebay uk , I am preferring the Samsung S6 but at this price I am no longer certain, I might go for the HTC M9, but will probable start looking on ebay in May & then decide when I see the Auction prices

I live off contract too, so it’s definitely a factor for me and $699 right out of the gate is a little rough and means the S6 Edge definitely isn’t happening anytime soon.

It is not worth the starting price of $699 for a 32GB. I don’t care much about removable battery but do care about SD card which this lacks. Considering something else!!!

I have an unlimited data plan with Verizon and aim to keep it as long as possible which would have me need to buy a phone at full retail. With the news as such is having me sway to the HTC more so now, especially since the One M9 still maintains the expandable memory slot. These two factors is what is driving my decision towards the HTC One M9.

Would take the M9 over the S6 regardless. What pushes me even more is that the S6 is $100 for what? You ou get all the premium materials in the M9 anyway and it us a much much nicer phone in terms of looks and power. Also Sense is much better than laggy Touchwiz. $100 less for a better phone? Way decision really.

Considering both (htc m9 and samsung s6) have way better hardware than the iphone, i dont think is a downgrade.

The price doesnt, but the non removable battery, no sd card and no h20 proofing are going to allow me to look at other options when my contract is up next year. I may even try to stretch it and wait if the s7 gets some of those things back.

I’ve been waiting for the presentation of these cellphones. I was hoping the S6 would have a metal body and the M9 would have a better camera. Samsung went for Gorilla glass 4 front and back, great fingerprint magnet. Then they eliminate micro-sd support. The jury is still out on the new HTC 20MP camera, especially since inexplicably there’s no OIS. Have to wait for some full reviews on both these phones. Then the LG-G4 is slated to come out in April, so I’ll wait and see.
