We have good news for Droid Turbo users today, as an engineer at Motorola has commented on a Google+ post saying that the device will be updated straight to Android 5.1, skipping ahead to the latest version of Android Lollipop.
According to Motorola employee Luciano Carvalho, the reason behind the firmware jump is pretty simple: “Verizon demands VoLTE support and 5.1 brings it to the platform. Basically it.” It doesn’t get much more straight forward than that. Of course the Turbo has already been updated with support for VoLTE, or Advanced Calling as Verizon calls it, but the thought here is that with native VoLTE support in Android 5.1, compatibility issues and bugs should be much more manageable on the latest version of Lollipop.
There’s still no word on when the update will become available, but rest assured it is on the way.
