If you’re interested in the HTC One M9 but are concerned about the reports saying that it’s got less-than-awesome camera performance — or if you’ve already got one an would like to see performance improve — we’ve got some potentially good news for you.
HTC has put together a software update that, according to HTC America President Jason Mackenzie, includes camera improvements. Mackenzie says that the update will roll out to all U.S. HTC One M9 models on April 10 or April 17, depending on the carrier version.
The folks at Phandroid say that HTC told them that the Sprint One M9 will be updated tomorrow, the Verizon One M9 will come preloaded with the update when it goes on sale tomorrow, and the AT&T One M9 will get the update next week. They were also told that the T-Mobile One M9 will get the update next week too, but some T-Mo One M9 owners are getting an update today, so it looks like the update may have been pushed out early.
We’ll have to wait until we can really spend some hands-on time with this updated camera software before making any judgments about whether or not it’s really improved, but the news that HTC is working fast to address complaints about the One M9’s shooter is good news. Not only is it coming quickly for anyone that’s already got a One M9, but it’s also going to be in place before a lot of folks even buy it.
