Moto X (1st Gen.) Android 5.1 starts its rollout in US, Brazil, Canada

Moto X owners, your Lollipop update has finally arrived!

David Schuster, Motorola’s software product manager, says that Android 5.1 is now rolling out to the unlocked versions of the Moto X (1st Gen.) in the US and Brazil. Moto X units on Rogers in Canada are getting their taste of Lollipop as well.

This update is a biggie for the Moto X (1st Gen.), bringing it from Android 4.4 to Android 5.1. That means that it’s going to be getting a material design makeover, an updated Recent Apps feature, the ability to select Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections from Quick Settings, notifications improvements, and more. If you’d like to look over Motorola’s full changelog, it can be found right here.

To check for the Moto X’s update, you can head into Settings > About phone > System updates. As with most Android updates, this one is probably going to take a little time to hit all Moto Xs, so be patient if you’re the owner of Motorola’s first generation X. It’s also worth noting that folks that own a Moto X with some US carrier branding will have to wait a bit longer for their update. Now that the unlocked model is being updated, hopefully the carrier variants won’t be far behind.
