Honor 5X up for pre-order on Amazon and Newegg

If your interest was piqued yesterday by the Honor 5X, the aggressively priced mid-range competitor, then you’ll be glad to hear that you can already place your pre-order on either Amazon or Newegg. Both sites have all three colors for $199 with an expected ship date of January 31st.

While it is unquestionably a mid-range device, the Honor 5X does offer a number of features that have previously been reserved for higher-end devices. Two of the big highlights are the all-metal construction as well as the fingerprint scanner on the back. A 5.5-inch screen isn’t unheard of in this range, and it is 1080p rather than the higher resolutions we’ve been seeing lately, but many people are perfectly happy with that display resolution.

As for the rest of the features, the camera is a respectable 13-megapixel f/2.4 shooter, and the 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 with 2GB of RAM should be plenty to keep things running smoothly on that 1080p screen.

The Honor 5X is launching with Android 5.1, but a rapid update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow is in the works.
