The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (or Galaxy Note 6, if you’re distrustful of rumors) has been rumored to have an iris scanner for a while now. This rumor seems more and more legitimate, especially since The Korea Herald has named the alleged supplier of the iris sensors.
Patron is a Korean camera module manufacturer that allegedly won the bid to supply Samsung with all of the iris scanners it will be using in the Note 7. Since an iris scanner recognize up to 266 traits over a fingerprint scanner’s 40 traits, it should be a more secure method of locking your device.
It definitely seems likely that the upcoming Galaxy Note device will feature an iris scanner. Samsung reportedly dropped the feature in 2013 because it felt that tech not being ready, and so if it’s mature enough now, it should be a cool feature. We’ll find out August 2nd when the next Note officially launches!
