Samsung Electronics Vice President Dr. Sung-Hoon Hong recently spoke at the Virtual Reality Summit that took place in California. During his time on stage, Hong outlined that Samsung is currently working on a brand new Gear VR headset which will be “presented in a short time.” Unfortunately, he did not go into any additional details regarding the device or when it might be revealed.
Hong did have some extra information to give regarding augmented reality (AR) device, though, saying that Samsung is working on a “light field engine” and that it will create “really, really realistic” holograms. He also added that the holograms will look “really touchable,” so it will be interesting to see how that looks in the real world in the future.
Hong said that Samsung’s AR device will see the light of day at Mobile World Congress next year, which takes place between February 27 and March 2.
What would you like to see Samsung do next with virtual reality and augmented reality?
