We are way overdue for some contests, so we decided to do a fun one to hold you over for our new site launch. From the day I started this blog, I wanted random contests to be a regular part of the site. As the site traffic grows we will begin offering better prizes. Of course, you can always contact me if you would like to sponsor a contest.

Contest Details

We want to see what your Android home screen looks like. Yes, all you have to do to enter this contest is show us your home screen. At the end of one week, we will select 5 winners. The following week after that, we will select an additional 5 winners.

Update: We have now added a 3rd week to the contest that will include 5 additional winners.

How do I take a screen shot of my Android phone? If you have root access, you can use the app Screenshot. For those without root access, you can install the Android SDK and capture screens. If you have Open Home, the latest version supports capturing screens. If all else fails, ask a question and someone will try to help.

Now that Rogers launched Android phones in Canada, we wanted to do a contest for multiple countries. For this contest, we will open it up to the US, UK, and Canada. As time goes on, we will continue to expand.

Contest Rules

I realize it is probably impossible to prevent cheating, but we have several requirements in order to participate. We ask that you place your phone into airplane mode so the icon appears in your notification bar. This can easily be done by holding down the off button. In addition, we are asking to include a second shot that shows the date and time. All of this could be faked, but at least it might slow down some people.

You can upload your screen shots anywhere, as long as you post a link to them. Once we begin to receive submissions, we will upload them to our Flickr account so everyone can see them. If possible, include a short description of what apps, widgets, themes, etc you have pictured in the shot. Feel free to upload as many screen as you want, but we will only pick one as a winner.

Open to residents of USA, UK, and Canada
Phone must be in Airplane mode and have the icon displayed in the notification area
Include a second screen shot that shows the date and time
Post a comment on this page that links to the screens (or email)
Include a short description of the theme, apps, and widget you have installed

How to Submit

We are trying to be as flexible as possible with submitting your screens. Feel free to place them anywhere we can access them. Please leave a comment on this page so that we can find them or you will not win a prize.

Winners Announced for Yahoo NCAA Pick’em Contest

Last night we saw North Carolina cruise to an easy victory of Michigan St. I’m not a huge college backetball fan, but I thought we would run a contest since Yahoo had announced they were running a mobile site for the NCAA tournament. Before we move on, let’s get to our winners.

Since I ran the contest and I’m the one buying the prizes, 3rd place will go to Zack S because I voided myself out. Emails are going out to all the winners and your prizes will ship once I confirm your mailing address. Thanks to all 15 people who participated. This was our first fantasy sports contest and we will be doing more of these for the sports that target mobile users. With the recent release of NBA Game Time, we might soon be doing a NBA contest. Stay tuned for details.

For those that took part in this contest, what did you think of Yahoo’s mobile site? It worked for me, but I found it very underwhelming. Yahoo is the king of fantasy sports and I think they would benefit greatly from a dedicated Android application. I know they make quite a bit of money from the live fantasy stats tracking they offer for the NFL and this would be a perfect match for Android.

Instead of having my laptop next to the couch on Sunday, I could keep track of all my players directly on my phone. During the week I could manage my roster and accept trades all in the palm of my hand. If you a huge fantasy nut, you can see the value in making this mobile. Someone is going to profit big from mobile fantasy sports. Will it be Yahoo?

Thank you to everyone who participated in the last contest. With your help, we grew the Android Army several hundred members. As the site gets bigger, we will attempt more contests with better prizes. The next milestone of 1000 is right around the corner, so stay tuned for details.

Picking the winner of the free G1 was difficult, but there was one letter sent in that caught my attention. Congratulations Phill, you have been selected as our winner. We hope you use your new G1 to help with your schooling and stay connected to your family.

Okay, first I’d like to go for why I should win a G1, though I’d also like to post for the other portion too (you’ll see why soon :P).

Hey! I have t-mobile. But guess what? I don’t have a g1 :(. My mom does. She absolutely loves it! And so do I. In fact, thats why I visit here religiously, to learn more about her phone. I’m a student, so I can’t afford to buy a g1, but if I got it, I’d do everything in my power to use it to its fullest potential. My mom has already talked about just making me pay for the data(which is possible) if I ever got one. But now why I should have it –. As I said before, I’m a student. That means I’m basically in poverty. I’m going to college very soon, and right now I have a razr. I’m going to college far away, and my razr is basically for show. I can’t text or talk on it, let alone download apps! I have no money left in my bank account because I loaned it family so that they could keep the house. They never paid me back. I’m trying to get a job, but its impossible in this climate! And even when I get one, every penny (besides bills) has to go towards tuition, because although I’m top of my class and poor, I can’t get scholarships because I live in a rich area around rich kids (that ALL have iphones… I’m basically the only one that doesn’t want an iphone in my school). I know, sob story. But thats my every day life. I have a horrible razr, horrible conditions, and horrible world to look forward to. A g1 would be a bright and sunny addition to that bleak outlook, especially since I’ve already mastered it. One of my friends from another school has a g1, and he lets me tinker with it, as well as my mom, who only uses it for work. Also, my moms friend is constantly badgering me to get her the nicest apps and all that jazz to spruce up her g1, so I’m not new to this.

Oh, and I have an undying love for google. Even without a g1, I use only gmail and have google desktop and google talk and google you name it, I use it. Thats the biggest turn on of the g1 for me, to know I could be part of something that will be huge in the future. I have faith in the g1 because I have faith in google.

If I win, I’d be more than happy to even help at the site, giving heads up and app reviews, and I’ve been trying to learn how to code, so if I ever get the hang, even helping make apps! If I can use it the same way I use my moms friend’s g1, I’ll go through basically all the apps! And I’m very oppinionated so I’ll definitely have something to review!
