As previously reported, the HTC Ville is rumored to feature a metal unibody design under 8mm thick, which would make it HTC’s thinnest handset to date.

In addition to being the thinnest Android phone from HTC, it should also be the fastest. The Ville is rumored to be one of the first devices with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon S4 processor. The dual-core Snapdragon S4 will feature Qualcomm’s new Krait core that offers a 60% performance increase compared to the existing Scorpion micro-architecture found in the Snapdragon S1, S2, and S3. A new Adreno 225 GPU will also provide 50% faster graphics performance.

Rumored specs of the HTC Ville include:

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

HTC Sense UI 4.0

4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display

1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 (MSM8960)

8-megapixel backside-illuminated camera with 1080p HD video capture

Beats Audio

Metal construction case and just 8mm thick

1650 mAh battery

No NFC support

Expect HTC to debut the Ville at Mobile World Congress in late February. If the rumored release date holds true, we should see the HTC Ville in stores by April. Possible carriers in the US include AT&T and Verizon (and maybe Sprint?), since the Snapdragon S4 will be the first system-on-a-chip to feature an integrated multimode LTE modem.

If you’ve been waiting on the second-generation of 4G LTE phones that are thinner and offer longer battery life, then pencil in the HTC Ville at the top of your wish list.

What are the top 25 Android phones and mobile devices to visit this site? Google Analytics recently made some improvements in mobile reporting, so we thought it would be fun to dig through our numbers and see what were the most popular devices accessing this site.

Most months this site averages over 300k unique visits from mobile devices, but the following data is only from the last two weeks.

Some quick conclusions:

It should surprise few that the top device is the HTC EVO 4G, but it’s interesting to see how many Apple fans we have with the iPad ranking #2 and the iPhone at #3.

We cater to the hardcore geeks, so that’s why you see the Nexus One at #4 and Nexus S at #8 even though neither phone sold that well.

Most popular retail devices by carrier: T-Mobile is the Vibrant, Verizon phone is the Droid X, AT&T is the Atrix 4G, and Sprint is the EVO 4G

All 2,638 people who purchased the Motorola Xoom visit this site.

Samsung’s 7-inch Galaxy Tab came in at a respectable #20.

Top device from Sony Ericsson is the new Xperia Arc, which has yet to launch in the US.

Not pictured above, but the T-Mobile G1 was ranked #39.

Also not pictured, but the highest ranking LG phone was the Virgin Mobile Optimus V at #30.

Which device in the top 25 is the most surprising to you?

Are you, like Richard Yarrell, obsessed with the upcoming HTC EVO 3D? Sprint’s follow-up to their best selling Android phone hits stores June 24th for $199, but the early reviews are already beginning to roll in. Edgar covered 7 reasons to trade in your EVO 4G for an EVO 3D, but does the phone actually live up to the hype? Read on after the jump to see what experts are saying.

We already know all about the EVO 3D specs, so how is the overall user experience? I read through all the reviews, and it sounds like the 3D display is a gimmick, battery life is better than the EVO 4G, the dual-core Snapdragon offers speedy performance and the call quality has some issues.

Myriam Joire of Engadget: “While the EVO 3D looks solidly built and feels substantial, the materials used fail to convey the same sense of quality as the Sensation … After topping off the EVO 3D, it only took 14 hours and 44 minutes to drain the beefy 1730mAh battery down to 7% … The EVO 3D’s qHD touchscreen is a mixed bag … While 3D is fun and whimsical, we can’t help but think it’s just a gimmick … Ultimately, we’ve come to think of the EVO 3D as a Sensation with a lesser camera, cheaper materials, worse battery life, and without the ability to roam worldwide.”

Sam Biddle of Gizmodo: “I particularly loved (and, by the handset gods, demand this of all phones) the thick hardware camera shutter—hold to focus, click to shoot … The EVO 3D is the first phone to ever literally hurt my face … It gave me a headache. I wanted to look away. And for what? A 3D effect that just isn’t very good.”

Ross Miller of This is My Next: “A few editors on staff complained of minor headaches after more extensive use … Still, when the 3D works, it’s impressive, and everyone I’ve shown it to feels the same way.”

Jonathan Geller of BGR: “After using the device for around 10 minutes on and off, I finally got the hang of the perfect positioning, and 3D content looks good, not great … Using the phone on the EVO 3D hasn’t been the best experience … At the end of the day, the EVO 3D is a better, faster, thinner, lighter, and more capable EVO 4G.”

Bonnie Cha of CNET: “The 3D features are a fun addition, but it’s the HTC Evo 3D’s zippy performance and improved battery life that make this Android smartphone one of Sprint’s best … The HTC Evo 3D’s design is updated but familiar, and anyone upgrading from the Evo 4G should feel right at home with the smartphone … We also got a bit of a headache after a while, and, more often than not, 3D photos just made our eyes hurt … Starting with a full charge in the morning and with moderate to heavy use (including playing 3D games and video), we were able to go a full day, sometimes early into the next day, before needing to recharge.”

Eric Zeman of Phone Scoop: “The material – mostly plastic, rubber, and glass – are of the best quality and feel fantastic in the hand … The camera button itself is perhaps the best camera button on any smartphone, ever … Call quality, however, wasn’t so great. Voices were often garbled, making me ask those with whom I spoke to repeat themselves … It is, without doubt, the fastest Android handset I’ve ever used … Viewing 3D content on the EVO 3D’s screen gives me a headache, plain and simple … My biggest gripe with the EVO 3D is the wireless performance. It’s bad enough that the WiMax radio barely worked, but add to that poor 3G performance, and poor voice performance, and you’ve almost killed off all the reasons to buy any phone.”

Roger Cheng of The Wall Street Journal: “You might get dizzy staring too deeply into the Evo 3D, but Sprint Nextel Corp.’s newest flagship phone is worth risking a little motion sickness … I was able to go through nearly an entire work day, while keeping the 4G radio on for most of the time, running it as a hot spot to power a tablet, and making a few phone calls … While the Evo 3D has several strong points, working as a phone isn’t one of them.”

If you’re on Sprint, please let me know what you think of the early reviews. Is this your next phone? Does it live up to the hype? Will all the 3D headache claims make you reconsider your purchase?

Samsung’s Galaxy S II has sold well over 1 million units in Korea, but fans in the US are still waiting to get their hands on this exciting superphone. We’re still waiting on US carriers to announce their plans, but Samsung’s Singapore Facebook account just posted some pictures of what could be AT&T’s version.

The Galaxy S II was first revealed in February at Mobile World Congress, and many thought the phone might launch by now. Recent rumors place the US version hitting stores around late Q3.

The AT&T version looks pretty similar to the Samsung Infuse 4G, but Phil Nickinson from Android Central points out that the power button is slightly different. Some have also said the Galaxy S II has a single button on the front; but, all the US versions have been slightly different from the international version.

In fact, we won’t know the exact specs of the US versions until the carriers announce them. So far we have seen the Galaxy S II in several different variations powered by an Exynos, OMAP4 and Tegra 2 processor. About the only hardware spec that’s certain is Samsung’s stellar Super AMOLED Plus display.

My current Android phone is the Samsung Nexus S, so I’m quite interested to see what changes are made when this beauty finally lands in our shores. If you’re in the market for a new Android phone are you excited by any of the already announced, upcoming models or are you holding out for the Galaxy S II?

AT&T customers will get their first taste of an Android 2.1 device when the HTC Aria goes on sale later this month. This mid-range Android phone features almost identical insides of recent HTC phones like the Legend and Slide mixed with the design of their Windows-powered HD Mini.

The Aria is powered by the 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 (which holds up well in GPU benchmarks), includes a 3.2 inch HVGA capacitive display, and features a 5 megapixel camera. HTC’s Sense UI is layered on top of Android 2.1 and we expect the phone will be updated to Android 2.2 later this year.

Customers can purchase the Aria on June 20th for $129.99 with 2-yr contract (after $100 mail in rebate). The phone requires a data plan of which AT&T now provides two options – $15 for 200 MB or $25 for 2 GB.

This marks only the 2nd Android phone for AT&T (first was the Backflip), but the carrier plans to expand its Android portfolio to include other Android smartphones during the second half of 2010.

Highlights of the HTC Aria include:

DALLAS and BELLEVUE, Wash., June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — AT&T* and HTC Corporation (“HTC”) today announced that HTC Aria™, a rich and powerful addition to AT&T’s Android smartphone portfolio, will be available exclusively at AT&T beginning June 20. Pocket-sized and packing the power of the Android 2.1 platform, a five megapixel camera and a bright 3.2 inch HVGA display, HTC Aria offers AT&T customers Android smartphone functionality in an amazingly easy-to-carry design. The combination of 3G speed, a responsive capacitive touch screen and an optical joystick makes HTC Aria an ideal smartphone for mobile broadband.

HTC Aria is Wi-Fi capable and qualifying customers will receive access to AT&T Wi-Fi, with more than 20,000 hotspots across the U.S. In addition, HTC Aria is compatible with AT&T’s High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2 Mbps technology. This technology provides a considerable boost to 3G speeds when combined with expanded backhaul. The combination of faster wireless networks, smartphones like HTC Aria, and tens of thousands of available innovative mobile apps allows AT&T customers to mobilize virtually everything, from video and music, to social networking, to business applications.

“HTC Aria is the first of several smartphones in our Android portfolio to run the 2.1 platform,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “When you combine the nation’s fastest 3G network, and access to the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network, HTC Aria will be one of the best Android smartphones available.”

HTC Aria features the acclaimed HTC Sense experience, which automatically delivers the most-wanted information by bringing it to the forefront of the mobile experience. Featuring the latest version of HTC Sense, HTC Aria offers even more ways to stay connected, including Friend Stream, which delivers Facebook, Twitter and Flickr updates in a single, consolidated view.

“Its unique combination of compact size and beautiful design instantly separates HTC Aria from the pack of ‘me-too’ smartphones,” said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC America. “But what really differentiates HTC Aria from other smartphones is the acclaimed HTC Sense experience, which we are pleased to be bringing to AT&T customers. By putting people at the center of everything it does, HTC Aria organizes all of your communications in the most human way possible – by person.”

A full selection of the newest and most popular Google services can be accessed with HTC Aria. This includes Google search, Google Maps, Google Navigation, Gmail, YouTube and more. With Android Market, customers can also choose from more than 50,000 applications to further personalize the mobile experience.

Along with being ultra-small at just over 4 inches long and weighing a mere 4.05 ounces, HTC Aria’s seamless wrap-around soft-touch back cover eliminates sharp edges, making HTC Aria exceptionally convenient to carry and comfortable to hold as well.

Featuring the best selection of smartphones and OS, AT&T is ranked #1 in customer satisfaction among smartphone owners. AT&T plans to expand its Android portfolio to include other Android smartphones during the second half of 2010.

Acer is still figuring out how to get their Android phones on a U.S. carrier, but at least they manged to load Android 2.1 on their latest release. The Acer Liquid E is a refresh of the original Acer Liquid with the addition of Eclair (Android 2.1). Mobile Syrup has confirmed that the device is headed to Canadian carrier Rogers Wireless this June for $374 ($49 with 3yr contract).

We heard rumors the Acer Liquid E would be around $374, which would make it one of the cheapest Android phones with a Snapdragon processor. That CPU is underclocked from 1 GHz to 768 MHz, but it will still be plenty fast to handle Flash 10.1.

Acer recently passed Dell as the world’s number 2 PC maker and their goal is expand their mobile devices into the U.S. The original Acer Liquid A1 was pegged for AT&T, but it looks like that deal fell apart. As Acer continues to expand their Android lineup, look for a smartphone to find its way to the States.

Dropbox is a name I’ve heard thrown around a lot in tech circles, and until now I thought it was just an Apple thing, as it was from those sites that the name has popped up the most. Most Mac-heads I know seem to love it, and after discovering and using its Android incarnation, I’m going to begrudgingly join them in their love.

Dropbox solves a problem I’ve been having for a little while in that it cloud-syncs user files for access wherever there is a Dropbox client installed which includes Windows, Max and Linux variants. My primary use for it is that I enjoy reading (free and fair-use) comics on my Milestone.

However, being the lazy person that I am, I don’t like maintaining a “to read” folder on my phone’s SD card itself. Dropbox fixed this by syncing a folder on my computer to the cloud, uploading anything new that was added since the last time it checked. Accessing the client from my phone allows me to download the files and store them from my SD card.

Things I liked:

SD storage is a big deal because it differs from other syncing applications I’ve used. With those, the files downloaded must be handled by an internal player. With Dropbox, downloaded files show up in ASTRO (or other file viewer) under a dedicated folder, which lets you open them with whatever app you want.

Sleek interface (not a port). This is a big plug. Responsive, simple to use and doesn’t bog you down with a lot of options. Dropbox is to the point, and does what it’s advertised to well.

The ability to upload things from your phone to Dropbox works wonders, and allows for the easy sharing of pictures, videos and more.

Free 2 GB of sharing, and increases with referrals or other challenges, like completing 5/8 things off a “to do” list (tell your friends, take a tutorial, etc).

Things I didn’t:

I really don’t have any complaints about Dropbox; the app simply works, and does exactly what I need it to. This seems to be a rarity in the application world, and I can commend the developers for putting work into the app.

Though this application’s in beta, I think the only issues that need to be tested is the stress on Dropbox’s servers. I can see that would come with the addition of any new devices, though, and can see this hitting the marketplace proper as soon as they’ve got everything smoothed out.

Sadly the beta for Dropbox is closed at the moment, as I miraculously managed to get one of the 500 open spots. Like I said above, it should only be a matter of time before users can join me. Happy syncing!

Not exactly the Snapdragon slider everyone wants, but it's close.

Android phones continue to get faster with each new release, but most of the high-end devices lack a physical keyboard. Many Android users who purchased a G1 have been holding out for a “Snapdragon slider” (or any phone with a 1 GHz CPU and physical keyboard).

Inbrics is a Korean company that is one of the first to actually produce a high-powered Android phone with a full qwerty keyboard. The Inbrics M1 is one of the thinnest Android sliders and it features a 3.7 inch display, dual cameras, 16 GB of built-in storage, and a 1 GHz CPU (Samsung C110). The M1 is also running Android 2.1.

Unfortunately the Inbrics M1 will not include a 3G radio at this time, but users could still make phone calls using VOIP via the built in WiFi connection. Because of this, Inbrics is available to target a lower price point and hopes to launch the device around the “low $200 range”.

The M1 was actually being displayed at CES, but we totally missed it on the massive show floor. Thankfully, Engadget caught up with Inbrics and captured the device on video. Note that the phone was originally using a 800 MHz CPU and performance should be increased since then.

The Zio M6000 features a 3.5 inch display and 600 MHz processor.

Kyocera is a company we have posted some rumors about, but they are not one of the major players for Android and we were not expecting a handset from them at CTIA. We are then a little surprised to find out the Japanese company just announced the Zio M6000, which marks Kyocera’s return to the smartphone space.

The Kyocera Zio uses CDMA2000 1xEV-DO rev. A for 3G data so it could appear on Sprint or Verizon. A more likely scenario would place the Zio on one of the tier 2 carriers like Cox or even Cricket. No official partner has been announced, but Kyocera expects to ship the phone in Q2 2010.

Highlights of the Zio features include a 3.5-inch WVGA display, 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, 3.2 MP camera with 30fps video record/playback, and Android 1.6.

PC Magazine is reporting the Zio will be a low price Android phone with a final retail price between $169 and $216. I find that kind of hard to believe since the device has a 3.5 inch display, so we will have to wait for the official launch details to be released at a later date.
