The new challenge has come; let the eternal struggle begin.

It has been a long time coming, but our friends from Bendroid have finally released the 3rd chapter in their popular horror game. Mystique Chapter 3 Obitus is now available in the Android Market for only $2.99. A full review is upcoming, but we think this will be a big hit based on previous titles in the series. Bendroid has also taken this opportunity to reduce the price of Mystique Chapter 2: The Child to $1.99.

I know the team from Bendroid is very excited to get your feedback on the game, so check it out and let us know what you think.

Some of the highlights for Chapter 3 include:

Two distinct worlds – the hospital basement and hell

Fully animated characters

Additional action mode, as can be seen from the fight scene in the trailer

Larger than 2nd chapter – more puzzles and rooms

Some puzzles will not have a single solution – solutions will be generated for each phone at the start of the game

Unreal ending that we cannot talk about – just know that it is our tribute to David Lynch

It is rare that we actually anticipate an Android game launch, but we are really looking forward to Bendroid’s latest work after enjoying the first two chapters of Mystique. We previously reported Chapter 3 would launch the first week of February, but we have heard that has been pushed back a week.

We just got a heads up that one of our favorite game devs is about to release their next Android title. The Mystique series has become one of our top picks for its unique horror/puzzle/escape gameplay.

I was starting to get worried about our friends Bendroid, who have produced some of the best horror games for Android. We haven’t heard from them in months, but that was because they were hard at work on the 3rd chapter for their popular series Mystique. They just sent over a teaser for their latest game and I’m already excited.

If you missed out on the first two games, now would be a good time to check them out.

Mystique. Chapter 2: The Child has been on my wish list since I first tried Chapter 1: The Foetus; so seeing it on Android market got me very excited. Players start right where Chapter 1 finished, in a scary hospital. You must work your way through abandoned corridors finding keys and solving puzzles. Basically, you’ve got to wander around, find hidden tools, grab them and get out. Nothing too difficult, or at least that is what I thought…boy was I wrong!

We all know that in Chapter 1: The Foetus, there was just one room (a bathroom), but now I have 14 rooms/corridors to go and … I like it. Of course, some of the rooms are locked, but that’s the challenge – find a way to open them and see what’s inside. I’ll be honest with you: I’ve spent way too many hours solving these damn puzzles, but it’s was well worth it. Each room has something specific in it, whether it be bloody writing on the walls or creepy ghosts always trying to scary you.

Okay, so it’s not as scary as watching a horror film alone at home, but there were definitely certain points where I was legitimately scared and tense. This was mostly accomplished through the audio effects, creepy music and bloody 3D freaks jumping at you.

Atmospherically, this game is awesome. The lighting is well done and each item is thoroughly created. The sound is probably the best part of the game. With every move or touch you can hear yourself walking through the rooms and corridors. Even that creepy monster sitting in the chair looks real…so real that the thought comes to mind: “What the hell is he doing here?”

The game has all the best traditions of the escape-room genre. You have to search for answers and use your brain to find the way out. It’s not that one click application where you just touch your phone and “voila”- you win. Not at all! You must think first and then do – that’s the main rule. And it works perfectly in the game.

Final Verdict

Well, fans of the Silent Hill genre, your time is here. Go forth unto the market and get your latest bit of horror from our favorite Bendroid guys. For the serious gamers, Chapter 2 will be a real challenge. Its puzzles may take several days to solve them. If you don’t believe me than try it. The price is $2.99, and while there are thousands of free apps and games to choose from, Chapter 2: The Child is not the first game I bought on the market, but is by far the best and most enjoyable.

The only question I have after I finally beat it: When is chapter 3 coming???

My love for Bendroid has been well documented. I knew from the moment I played Mystique: Chapter 1 that these guys had talent. Not only do they make great games, but they are also open to criticism and work hard to implement new features based on customer feedback.

Several months ago, they allowed me to publish some early concept art of the game. Then last week, they gave us more details and revealed a May 18th release date. Unfortunately, the release date was push back a week but they sent us a new trailer video for the game. Compared to what we have previously seen on Android, I am very excited to get my hands on this game.

While waiting on the final round of QA, be sure to check out Mystique Chapter 1 if you have never played it. If you need help completing the game, check out our short walkthrough.

Several months passed since Mystique. Chapter 1: Foetus was released on Android market. During that period it gained numerous fans and was downloaded thousands of times. Each day we were getting more and more emails from the fans with the only question: “OMG!!! We want Chapter 2 ASAP!!! When it will be done? Move your a**es, guys!”

Today we are proudly announcing: Mystique. Chapter 2: The child will be released May 18th,2009.

Yeah guys and girls, we were working all that time to include all your comments, improve the puzzles and expand the gameplay. Each day was a struggle between the common sense and our imagination…and guess who wins?

Chapter 2: The Child starts right off where the last game ended. After you escape the bathroom, you find yourself in some kind of a medical facility. Your goal remains the same from the first episode: Get the hell out of that place!

Extra attention was given to the graphics. We added more vivid and detailed textures. New effects and visual features were integrated into the game engine. All that should help you to feel the atmosphere and dive into the horror.

Gameplay was also given an upgrade. We have increased the game length and the number of locations. Now the game includes 13 unique and outstanding locations with several dozen items to find. But just to find the item is not enough, you need to perform an action with it and to choose from more than 100 actions is a real challenge, even for a professional. I’m not even mentioning all the puzzles that are hidden in the game and no one knows how much time you would spend solving them.

If the puzzles would be TOO difficult and complicated for you…relax, save the game and try later. Yes, Mystique. Chapter 2: The child will have “Save” option. You won’t have to solve the same puzzles or find the same items again and again.

In order to navigate through the game easier we have added “Invert” option. It’ll help the users to choose and adjust their playing manner. Game time and high scores were added into the 2nd Chapter on purpose. Our users were complaining that once they finish the game there was no way to challenge their friends and show how smart or dumb they are. Having game time and high scores will tell the whole truth and show the evidence of your brain skills.

We do really hope that Chapter 2: The Child will be enjoyed by the fans. We’ve added and included all the items and features we were asked for. Much effort was spent on making, optimizing new chapter and proving that Android platform is worth using it. And we truly believe that our hard work will show other developers that the time to create game masterpieces has come.

The guys from Bendroid are back again and have shared with us another one of their upcoming games. Hancat(think Hancock) is a super cat simulation game where you must save the day. Bendroid has been turning out some great 3D games and Hancat will follow that pattern.

There will be five different worlds for your feline super hero to explore. Each one will have a number of so called “tracks” that need to be completed in order to pass the level. The game will be entirely controlled with the accelerometer so no button presses will be required. Also included with be a timing and score system for you to compete for the best runs.

As with most Bendroid releases, there will be an odd sense of humor throughout the game. Currently the project is in alpha stage, but they are working hard on it and hope to have the first release by the end of next week. Stay tuned to Android and Me for more details.

From the moment I first played Mystique Chapter 1, I knew Bendroid was on to something special. Even though the first installment was short, it demonstrated the potential of games on Android. The first person view 3D graphics, innovative touch controls, challenging puzzles, and dark mood all had me craving for more. I recently had the opportunity to speak with this small team of four and they shared some details about their upcoming release.

Chapter 2: The Child starts right off where the last game began. After you escape the bathroom, you find yourself in some kind of a medical facility. As you begin to explore, you discover that it is actually an abandoned lunatic asylum (one where non-traditional methods of cure were tried). Your goal remains the same from the first episode; you need to solve puzzles in order to escape.

Concept Art for Chapter 2

Instead of being limited to one room, you now have an entire floor to explore consisting of approximately eight areas. Thankfully, Bendroid has listened to customers suggestions and included a save option. The difficulty has also increased with even more items to find and harder puzzles to solve.

Extra attention is being given to the graphics as they continue to push the power of the G1. Gameplay has also been given an upgrade with new accelerometer support. In addition to the increased length, replay will be extended with time trial modes where you compete to see how fast you can finish the game.

Other features include:

I can't wait to bump into this guy.

Free roaming through the floor. You can enter any room, take things there, and perform actions.

Non linear gameplay. There will be several ways to complete the game.

More Puzzles. You will not only perform actions like “take this object and use it there” but also solve different kinds of puzzles.

More ghosts and creatures.

Action-game type features will be added to vary the gameplay

If you have yet to play Mystique Chapter 1, it is available in the Market for only $0.99. We have created a guide for those who get stuck, but the fun comes from exploring and solving the puzzles. Try it out and let us know what you think.

Help support Bendroid by purchasing their title so they can continue to create great games for Android. If you have already had a chance to play Chapter 1, what other features or ideas would you like to see Bendroid include in a future release? What are your thoughts on the $0.99 price point and the episodic content?

After I posted the video intro for Mystique, many people have posted asking for a walkthrough. Some of you even took the time to email me. I tried several times to record a video, but the game is too dark and my camera is too cheap. Instead I decided to write up a guide that will walk you through all the steps needed to complete Chapter 1.

These Guys are Awesome.

If you have the game but don’t know how to play, just hit the “Information” button when the game starts. I’m not here to answer questions that are answered in the game. If you can’t read, then this guide is not for you either.

For new Android users, Mystique is a horror/puzzle game played from a first person point of view. This is one of the true 3D games in the market and it also happens to be free for a limited time. I suggest you try to finish the game on your own. The fun comes from solving the puzzles and escaping the room. But if you really get stuck, here is the complete walkthrough.

1. Grab the flashlight. If you stand on the pentagram and look at the bottom left side of the tub, you will see something on the floor. Tap it for a closer look, then grab the flashlight.

2. Grab the hammer. On the bottom right side of the tub is the hammer. Again, you need to be looking down to see it before you can zoom in.

3. Grab the shaver and the plaster. Open up the cabinet on the wall to find both items sitting inside.

4. Grab the toothbrush. Look in the back of the toilet and you will see the dirty toothbrush.

5. Get the key. Return to the tub and tap the handle to drain it. After that, select the toothbrush and then tap the shiny object to get the key.

6. Charge the shaver. Place the shaver in the charger by the mirror and then remove it after the cut scene is over.

7. Grab the circular saw. It is located on the right side under the sink.

8. Get the screwdriver and pliers. Look on the left side under the sink to find a locked tool box. Select the key and use it on the box. When it opens you will find the two items.

9. Get the batteries. Select the shaver and use the screw driver on it.

10. Turn on the flashlight. Select the flashlight and use the batteries on it. Tap the light again to turn it on.

11. Crush the wall with the hammer. Stand in front of the wall where it is sparking and use the hammer on the wall.

12. Get the electrical wiring. Use the pliers where you smashed the wall to remove the wire.

13. Fix the circular saw. First select the saw and then combine the wire with it. Once the wire is attached, use the plaster to repair the wire.

14. Escape from the room. Plug the saw into the outlet by the toilet then use the saw on the door to escape.

Once you have finished the game a couple times, it only takes a few minutes to complete. I can’t wait to see what Bendroid does for Chapter 2. The graphics are already better than most of the Android games and I expect to see improvements. I would also really like to see a time trial mode where you could challenge yourself for the fastest time to finish a level.

If you would like to request any other game guides or hints, leave me a comment.
