Though some of these devices have been available online for a few days, there is nothing like walking into a store and having some intimate time with a handset before making a commitment. Today, May 26, Verizon has 3 new devices available in-store, and chances are many of you will be running over to get your hands all over them. Said Android smartphones are the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the Motorola Droid X2, and the LG Revolution.

We are all obsessed with the idea of having that one device that has it all. Such is not the case for these, and as sad as it seems, that Prince Charming Android phone can only be found in our dreams (for now). All three devices offer very different features, creating a diverse variety of phones, so you can pick which one will suit your needs better.

We have put together a poll to see what our readers think about Verizon’s tri-force, and which devices they will be taking home. So, Let’s take a look at today’s poll contestants!

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play

Oh, Xperia Play! We have been waiting so long for you. Rumors about the existence of this device started flying around since last year, around August. As you probably already know, this device is meant to be targeted at all you hard-core gamers out there. Being the only device that features a slide-out gaming pad, it will sure keep your spare time very busy, while you take care of saving the world and what not.

We are all complaining about the fact that phones are still being released without dual-core processors. Of course, we want the latest and newest, and though this is not a dual-core device, it does have the newer generation of Qualcomm single-core processors. This device sports a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon II processor, with an Adreno 205 GPU (which should keep your gaming and media running pretty smooth).

Aside from the lack of dual-core (No 4G LTE either), this phone has everything else that you can expect from it, like Android 2.3 Gingerbread, VGA front-facing camera, and a 5 MP rear-facing camera.

Motorola Droid X2

The Motorola Droid X was quite popular last year, mostly due to its thin body, and that stunning 4.3-inch display. Well, if you are a proud owner of the Motorola Droid X, the Droid X2 will give you a boost in performance, while giving you a very familiar feeling to what you are used to.

When I say the word “familiar,” i mean it. The Droid X2 is pretty much the same as its predecessor, but with 2 main upgrades: A 1 GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, and a qHD display (960×540). Other specs include teh familiar Android 2.2 Froyo (to be upgraded to Gingerbread), 512 MB of RAM, and 8 MP rear-facing camera.

The device does lack a front-facing camera, along with 4G LTE compatibility, but some of you may very well not care about those.

LG Revolution

First seen at CES (officially), the LG Revolution has become a big upgrade for Verizon LG users. Though the LG Vortex and LG Ally were great entry-level devices for new Android users, it is time for LG to step up the game when it comes to Verizon handsets.

The LG Revolution is actually the only one three devices (and the only one released today) that is 4G LTE capable on Verizon Wireless (along with the HTC Thunderbolt and the Samsung Droid Charge). Its 4G compatibility and the front-facing 1.3 MP camera are pretty much the most exciting features in the Revolution. Aside from those two, the specs include Android 2.2 Froyo, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5 MP rear-facing camera, and a 4.3-inch TFT display.

Which do you want?

As mentioned before, each of these devices has its own advantages over the others. Which one is the best? That simply depends on your needs. Gamers will definitely have a good time with the Xperia Play. If you really want a front-facing camera, the Droid X2 would be out of the picture, but it is also the only one with a dual-core processor. If data speed is an important factor, it may be good to consider the LG Revolution, which is compatible with Verizon’s new 4G LTE network.

Please take a vote and let us know which of these will be your next Android smartphone. We always like to know what you guys think, so let us know the reason for choosing one of these devices (or none) in the comments section.

A couple of weeks ago, our friend Taylor made an epic return from his labor quest, giving us a taste of what Amazon has in store for us. We all had suspicions that Amazon could be working on some Android devices, but Taylor took the stage and used his ninja skills to actually get word from an insider, bringing us much more details than we had.

How much do we know? Well, Amazon is working on bringing an “entire family” of devices to the market, which would include a phone and probably two tablets. Of course, Taylor is not the only stealthy spy on the streets, and Tim Bajarin from PCMag.com has provider further proof of Amazon’s upcoming foray into the hardware market. According to Tim’s sources, Amazon will have a 7-inch tablet priced at around $350, and a 10-inch model at around $450. The author makes no mention of a cellphone, though, which would have been nice to hear about.

Amazon definitely has the strength to bring some some major competition when it comes to prices. We expected prices to be a bit lower, with the smaller tablet priced at about $250 (like the Nook Color), and the larger one at around $400. It is undeniable that the prices given by Tim are still fair to today’s standards. Rumors say that these will carry Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 processors, a bold move that will leave Amazon with the most aggressively priced tablets on the market.

We can assume many outcomes, but ultimately, you guys (the consumer) are the ones that matter. We would like to know where you stand, so we have created a poll to see how everyone would feel if these prices happened to be accurate. Join us and take a vote! And please do share your reasons with us in the comment section!

View This Poll

After asking the Android and Me team where their vote would go, this is some of the feedback I received from them:

Alberto Vildosola: None, I am just not interested.“I’d have to wait and see how Amazon convinces me that I should buy all my Android apps all over again from the Amazon Appstore.”

Anthony Domanico: None, I am just not interested.“I have a Xoom, and I’m perfectly happy with it. Tablets, for me, are a nice-to-have rather than a need-to-have. Unless they have Tegra3 and other killer specs inside, I’m really not interested in trading up.The only thing I’d be a bit concerned about are the storage space, which seemingly has a huge influence on tablet pricing. What if these things had only 8GB of storage?”

Clark Wimberly: Tablets? I don’t need no stinking tablets!“I’ll always take a freebie, but you would be hard pressed to ever find me spending my own money on a tablet. For the foreseeable future, at least.”

Justin Shapcott: Tablets? I don’t need no stinking tablets!“I would not purchase any tablet, no matter who made or distributed it, at any pricepoint. If someone gave me one, I would accept it, and maybe even use it, but I’d never actually buy one. I still don’t see a valid use case for tablets.”

Keivan Askari: None, I am just not interested.“I have the galaxy 10.1 and am completely happy with it. If there was one with less memory, cheaper, only used micro sd for storage, and was a 7-inch like the nook, but came with a limited amount of free 3g data, I would look at it.”

Nick Gray: None, I am just not interested.“The specs would need to be amazing (tegra 3 with an amazing display), but I’d still not buy it. I know there are a lot of amazon fans out there, but I have a hard time handing over my money for a device designed by a retailer. They know books like nobody’s business, but I doubt that their first android tablets will offer enough for me to switch.”

Sean Riley: None, I am just not interested. “I already have a couple tablets and enjoy them both, so unless Amazon has an incredible value proposition I won’t be replacing my current setup.I have to say I just don’t buy that pricing unless Amazon is going to package in their streaming video service and some cloud drive storage as well. One of their biggest advantages versus the rest of the Android tablet manufacturers is that they will control the entire ecosystem which should guarantee that they will be pulling cash after sale and if they don’t discount the initial purchase price they’ll be squandering that advantage. The other possibility that makes sense would be to offer a steep discount ($150-$200) on the hardware to Prime subscribers. “

In last week’s poll we asked how many people would purchase the Nexus S and it turns out we must have a lot of early adopters because over 1,000 people (34%) said they would vote for Google’s next superphone with their wallet. This week the next question is pretty simple – How much would you pay for a premium Android game?

We know that Android devices based on the Tegra 2 processor will offer console-quality games and we are likely to see some big titles when the first smartphones and tablets are launched. As Android gets more quality games, we want to know how much you all are willing to spend.

Gameloft charges $4.99 for their HD games right now and I don’t mind paying this price. I think $5 is about the level I’m comfortable with, but if a really awesome title came out I might spend up to $10.

Over on Apple’s App Store it looks like the sweet spot is $5.99. Epic Games just released Infinity Blade (based on their Unreal Engine 3 coming to Android) and it sold a whopping 271,000 copies in less than four days. A report from BGR estimates that Epic Games grossed well over $1.6 million in under four days which is pretty amazing for a mobile game.

This weekend I said that N.O.V.A. 2 has not been announced for Android, but Gameloft tweeted that it was in the works and would be launched after it arrived on the iPhone. This is one example of a premium game, but I’m sure there are many more that we don’t even know about.

Basically, imagine your favorite console franchise and then let us know what is a fair price for a mobile version. Some people have said that piracy was a serious problem for Android developers, so I tossed in that option as well since I’m curious.

Google announced their flagship Nexus S phone just 24 hours ago and now that we have all had a night to sleep on it I’m curious how many people out there have decided that they want to buy it.

A good portion of Nexus One owners were disappointed at what the Nexus S lacks, but you can still make a case that it will be the best phone on the market when it goes on sale at Best Buy on December 16th. It will be the first device to feature Android 2.3 and being part of the Nexus family means that users will always have the latest software updates in a timely manner (example: Nexus One to get 2.3 in the next few weeks).

The biggest complaints so far about the Nexus S have been the lack of a dual-core processor, no 4G support, no expandable storage, no LED notification light, and it’s only available for T-Mobile in the United States. Some of those features may seem trivial, but a good portion of our readers have indicated they want 4G support and a dual-core processor in their next superphone.

So the choice is pretty simple – do you want a phone with the latest software or the latest hardware? Google would argue that the Nexus S has both, but we all know that its hardware will feel slightly dated after LG and Motorola announce their dual-core phones in a matter of weeks (Jan. 5th at CES).

As for me, I will be in line at Best Buy on day one to pick up the Nexus S – but that’s my job to check it out. It looks like it will be an awesome phone, but I doubt I’m ready to give up the 4G speeds and QWERTY keyboard on my T-Mobile G2. Believe it or not, I think the next upcoming phone I’m most excited for is the LG Star.

With so many Twitter apps available, is there one that shines above the rest?

In the past few months, the Android Market has seen a nice collection of high quality Twitter apps appear. With the growing popularity of Seesmic, Twicca, and the recent release of Level Up Studio’s Touiteur, the requirements for a true contender to the throne have become even greater.

It is no longer enough for an app to simply “work” with Twitter. Functionality such as multiple accounts, notifications and widgets are becoming ubiquitous. Now that there is a such a large selection in the Market, developers are finding that often it is the visual design and improved user experience that are drawing users towards other applications.

Readers, have you stuck with your original, or been lured to someone new? What is the top Android and Me reader Twitter app?

Last month we found out a strong majority of our audience was happy with Google's app store.

Last month we had the idea to run a small opinion poll on the Android Market and found out a strong majority of our audience was happy with Google’s app store. The biggest complaints came from users with Android 1.5 phones (which lacks the latest version of the Android Market). Overall, most customers were satisfied with the recent upgrades Google has made over the last year.

T-Mobile customers with Android 1.6 phones (G1 and myTouch 3G) began receiving a silent update which enabled carrier billing for paid apps and added a new section for T-Mobile suggested downloads.

Sprint has also promised to allow carrier billing, but has yet to provide a launch date.

Will the new billing options be enough to further boost the approval rating or will complaints about the old Android Market continue to grow?

Let us know what you think and check back next week for the results.

Over 2,000 votes were cast and I'm a little shocked by the results. A whopping 56 percent of our readers approve of the Android Market. Only 35 percent disapprove while the remaining 9 percent were unsure.

Last week we asked for your opinion of the Android Market and the results are in.

Thank you for voting.

Over 2,000 votes were cast and I’m a little shocked by the results. A whopping 56 percent of our readers approve of the Android Market. Only 35 percent disapprove while the remaining 9 percent were unsure.

56% positive

35% negative

9% neutral

I say I’m surprised because I have been generally underwhelmed by the progress the Android Market has made over the last year. We finally got screenshot previews, but there are still numerous tweaks that could be made to improve the user experience. At the end of the day, it looks like Google is doing their job since a majority of our readers approve of the current situation.

Based on the comments, the top requests for the Android Market include:

Longer descriptions (more screens, YouTube videos, etc.)

Desktop client to browse applications

Bring paid apps to more countries

Add recommendations and discoverability options

Correct downloads stalling/failing (appears to be T-Mobile problem only)

Bring search functions up to Google standards

It should also be noted that approximately 25 percent of Android users are stuck with the outdated Android 1.5 which includes the older version of Android Market (no screens).

Google recently updated their terms of service for the Market and they are set to go into affect on December 11, 2009. We have heard reports that Sprint and T-Mobile will add carrier billing for paid applications and this could be the date we see an updated Market. It will be interesting to see how Sprint accomplishes this since both of their Android phones currently run Android 1.5.

Check back next month as we run this opinion poll again. We plan to do this once a month and chart public opinion over time. I’m glad to see a majority approve of the Android Market, but I would still like to see Google put more resources into improving the overall experience.

We have documented our disappointment with the Android Market and now notable developers are beginning to criticize it as well.

I’m curious what the rest of our readers think. Starting now, we will run this poll once a month on the final week of the month. I will document the results so that we can chart the approval rating over time.

Majority of our readers expect Verizon will cripple Android.

Last week we asked our readers “Will Verizon cripple Android?” and now the results are in. I have never been a customer of Verizon, but we have all read the reports about them removing GPS functionality and charging extra for it. Verizon is expected to launch their first Android phones this holiday season so I was curious on how the community perceived them.

Verizon can only go up from here.

To my surprise, over half (53%) of our readers think Verizon will cripple Android in some way. Only 23% think Verizon will leave Android untouched and 23% could care less because they plan to hack the phone.

These numbers are ugly, but Verizon can only improve their image from this point forward. We have no evidence that Verizon has any plans to cripple Android, but each carrier has the right to make changes for their network.

Some of our favorite comments from the poll:

“Verizon has no heart. They’re modeled after microsoft. They like to break down their services into hundreds of small bits and sell each one to you for as much as they can get each with a two year contract.” – freon500

“If they cripple the GPS i just won’t buy it.” – Joe

“If they don’t cripple the phone itself they will cripple your wallet with the plan rates they have.” – Seth Stevenson

“This bodes well for Android… mostly, but I am sure that even if it isn’t crippled in the usual sense, it will be weighted down with “Excusive Services” like VZNavigator (directions), and other such garbage in order to try and pull every dime they can out of the customer.” – JayMonster

“I am unfortunately a Verizon customer and have been waiting FOREVER for Verizon to get a good phone. They have been known to cripple all of their phones in the past so I wouldn’t be too surprised if they cripple their Android phones. If they do cripple their Android phones, that will be the last straw and I will leave Verizon for Sprint, so that I can get a HTC Hero.” -Mikael
