The handset’s unique design certainly makes the phone stand out, but apparently Sony wasn’t ready to reveal all the handset’s secrets at this month’s trade show. According to a recent post on the company’s Facebook page, the Xperia S features an “anti-stain shell,” something we’ve already seen on the recently released Droid RAZR from Motorola. If that wasn’t enough, a rumor is floating around that suggests the Xperia S will have a fast charging feature which will allow users to get one hour of handset use with only 10 minutes of charging.

We’ve known that the Sony Xperia Ion would be headed to AT&T this spring, but it looks like the Xperia S may soon make an appearance in North America as well. The handset recently showed up at the FCC with support for AT&T’s 3G radio bands, Bluetooth 2.0, NFC, WiFi b/g/n, GPS and ANT+. While we’re excited to see support for AT&T’s 3G radio bands, we have a feeling our neighbors to the north will be seeing the Xperia S on Rogers long before the handset is spotted in an AT&T store.

Are any of you AT&T customers thinking about paying full price to import the Sony Xperia S, or will you simply wait to see what Sony and other manufacturers unveil at Mobile World Congress and CTIA this spring?

It’s been nearly one month since the Galaxy Nexus was first announced, but Canada’s three largest carriers (Rogers, Bell and Telus) have all announced their launch plans for the pure Google device.

Bell will be the first carrier in Canada to release the handset, starting in early December. No specific date has been handed out just yet, but users of Bell at least know that their wait will be over in just a couple more weeks now. For more information on the Bell Nexus, you can check out the dedicated site Bell has put up for the phone that features some great pictures along with a nice feature rundown. [1]

As of today, Canada’s largest cellular carrier Rogers has opened up preorders for the Galaxy Nexus’ early January release. No exact date in January has been set, but for $40, you can guarantee a handset as soon as the Nexus hits shelves. [2]

Much like Rogers, Telus has announced that they will also be selling the Galaxy Nexus in January. Yet again, no word on pricing or an exact release date, but any information is better than none. [3]

While they aren’t one of top three carriers in Canda, Virgin Mobile has also announced their launch plans. They’ll also be releasing the Nexus in December, using the tagline “we’ve got it first!” on advertisements for the device. Exactly when in early December is still a mystery, but you can preorder here. [4]

Now that Canada’s largest carriers have started to reveal their launch plans for the Galaxy Nexus, you have to wonder if carriers in the US will follow suit. If all of this sounds familiar, you may be thinking of the Canadian and US launches of the Galaxy S II. Thanks to the carriers in the US, Canadians saw the Galaxy S II long before anyone in the US. Could we be seeing a repeat of that scenario, or does Verizon just have a death grip on Google here?

If the Galaxy Nexus were to come out for Sprint, AT&T or T-Mobile around January like the Rogers and Telus versions, then an announcement shouldn’t be too far off. Until then, anyone in the US might want to get their Canadian contacts ready to do some exporting.

T-Mobile and Rogers fans alike have a special leak in store for them today. Canadian-based MobileSyrup was at a Telus and Samsung sponsored concert last night and just so happened to snap a pic of the widely anticipated Samsung Hercules, the device rumored to be T-Mobile and Telus’ Galaxy S II variant.

While it may seem strange to see the Hercules name pop up on two carriers with different 3G bands, Telus is famous for landing reworked T-Mobile devices. Not only that, but the Hercules is actually rumored to launch with T-Mobile’s AWS bands along with support for the more standard 850/1900MHz configuration. A simple carrier rebrand and Telus wouldn’t even need to mess with the Hercules’s internals.

As far as other rumored specs on the device go, we’re still looking at a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 4.5-inch display, full HD 8MP camera, 2MP front-facing camera and yes, blazing fast 42Mbps HSPA+.

Current rumors have the T-Mobile Hercules seeing a late September launch, so it shouldn’t be long until this device is made official. What do you think T-Mobile (and Telus) customers? If T-Mo didn’t land the Galaxy S II and only got the Hercules instead, would you buy it?

Attention dear Canadian readers, you might want to hold off on buying that Android superphone you want so badly. Because this Friday, Best Buy will be selling a handful of Android devices for the lowest price possible: free. The giant retailer will be giving out the following phones with a 3-year contract:

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play from Rogers

Google Nexus S from TELUS and Fido

HTC Incredible S from Bell and SaskTel

Motorola Atrix 4G from Bell

That’s one enticing deal, right there. Almost makes me want to move to Canada, almost. Is it me or is it kind of hard to decide which phone to get? I like the Nexus S ’cause it’s a Google phone and has an NFC chip, but then there’s the Atrix 4G with a Tegra 2 chip and a fingerprint reader. Or maybe I’d go with the Xperia Play with all its PlayStation features. Decisions, decisions.

How many of you guys will be taking advantage of this incredible opportunity? If you’re, let us know which device are you going with.

The FCC’s releases are fickle swamp to wade through, but every once and awhile you find something interesting. The label above, posted today, might look a little confusing, but according to Engadget it’s a match for the sticker found inside the HTC Legend.

The FCC filing explains that the phone might be headed for a network that supports the 850 and 1900MHz WCDMA bands; this narrows providers down to AT&T, along with the Canadian providers Telus, Bell and Rogers. Lending more credibility to the claim is the FCC ID: this new phone’s ID of PB76110 is eerily close to the original Legends’ PB76100.

Acer is still figuring out how to get their Android phones on a U.S. carrier, but at least they manged to load Android 2.1 on their latest release. The Acer Liquid E is a refresh of the original Acer Liquid with the addition of Eclair (Android 2.1). Mobile Syrup has confirmed that the device is headed to Canadian carrier Rogers Wireless this June for $374 ($49 with 3yr contract).

We heard rumors the Acer Liquid E would be around $374, which would make it one of the cheapest Android phones with a Snapdragon processor. That CPU is underclocked from 1 GHz to 768 MHz, but it will still be plenty fast to handle Flash 10.1.

Acer recently passed Dell as the world’s number 2 PC maker and their goal is expand their mobile devices into the U.S. The original Acer Liquid A1 was pegged for AT&T, but it looks like that deal fell apart. As Acer continues to expand their Android lineup, look for a smartphone to find its way to the States.

Canadian customers could see the X10 by April 12th.

Canadian Android fans can now pre-order the Sony Ericsson Xepria X10 thanks to an offer from Rogers Wireless. The X10 will be offered for $149.99 with a 3-year contract. Customers who take place in an upgrade promotion will be able to redeem a free Sony Ericsson MW600 wireless headset.

Customers who pre-order by April 9, should see their device ship the week of April 12, 2010.

When Sony Ericsson announced the Xperia X10 many Android fans placed it at the top of their list, but that was five months ago. The 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 4 inch display, and 8.1 megapixel camera sounded tempting at the time, but the phone is already looking outdated compared to newer Android 2.1 devices.

One of the glaring omissions of the X10 is the lack of multitouch support. Sony Ericsson plans to eventually upgrade the X10 firmware to Android 2.1, but a hardware limitation will prevent the device from gaining multitouch implementations.

If you are located in North America, then Rogers might be your only choice to get the X10. The company has a Canadian exclusive on the phone and no U.S. carrier has announced support for the device.

For those of us that complain about U.S. carrier contracts and data caps, go check out those Rogers rate plans. Ouch!

New hack to install Google Earth on the Droid and a highly anticipated game.

Good morning everyone. This is my 2nd day to write Good Morning Andy and I’m already debating its purpose. Maybe it is just a slow news days. Anyways, here are 3 links for a couple of Android items that we did not cover.

Mobile Roadie Now Creates Apps For Android Ecosystem – Want to create a web app for Android and iPhone at the same time? Mobile Roadie has created their own CMS that allows publishers to easily build apps and then push them out to both operating systems simultaneously.

Rogers to exclusively launch Android-powered Acer “Liquid e” this Spring – Canada will finally get their first phone with Android 2.1 via the new Acer Liquid e. Our neighbors to the north still don’t have access to paid apps in the Android Market, but that hasn’t slowed down the Android phone launches.

Installing Google Earth on the Motorola Milestone without root (translated) – Google Earth was finally released, but it is only available for phones with Android 2.1. German blog MobiFlip has instructions for a quick hack to get Earth installed on the Motorola Milestone. I tested it out on a spare Droid we have and it installed with no issue. Use at your own risk.

Today’s Android Events

The highly anticipated game Mystique Chapter 3 launched today in the Android Market for $2.99. A full review is upcoming, but we think this will be a big hit based on previous titles in the series.

LG's latest Android phone is headed for a global release in April.

LG had a quiet Mobile World Congress (as expected) while they gear up for a major announcement at CTIA. However, they still participated at MWC and were showing off the GT540 that we spotted at CES.

The LG GT540 is headed for a global release in April and we hear Rogers might bring the phone to Canada.

And.roid.es was at Mobile World Congress and captured a quick video preview for us. LG has designed a simple home screen switcher, but it doesn’t look as impressive as what we have seen from HTC. LG definitely has some work ahead of them if they want to impress us at CTIA with their next Android phone.

Highlights of the GT540 include:

600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227

3.2 inch resistive touchscreen display

512 MB RAM, 256MB ROM

3 megapixel camera

3.5mm headset jack

Android 1.6
