Thinking of getting something for that special someone, this Valentine’s day? How about a 4G smartphone from T-Mobile? According to these screen shots (and past rumors), T-Mobile will be holding a one-day sale on February 11th, dedicated to all the love birds out there. But this is not just any sale – customers will be able to purchase any 4G device for free after mail-in rebate.

This is after signing a 2-year contract, of course. This deal is applicable to both Classic and Value plan subscribers, which happens to be a first for these “All Hands Day” sales. Such sales were only applicable to Value plan subscribers before, making this a much more enticing offer.

According to TmoNews‘ sources, those that pick the Classic rate plans will have to pay for the device’s usual subsidized price and receive the full amount via a mail-in rebate card. Value plan subscribers will get the same treatment after paying the down payment. (Upgrade rules and migration fees apply).

If you have been looking to get a new 4G smartphone from T-Mobile, we suggest you circle February 11th in your calendar. The offer applies to all 4G devices, including tablets like the LG G-Slate and the Huawei Springboard. There is a small catch for some devices, though. It seems like top-tier smartphones, such as the HTC Amaze and Samsung Galaxy S II might require a subscription to a 5 GB data plan.

All T-Mobile retail stores, customer service and authorized dealers will be participating on this offer. If interested, you might want to wait for the official announcement for more details, which is rumored to be as soon as this afternoon (according to the sources).

Let’s sit tight and wait to hear official details. Is anyone taking advantage of this sale? And just out of curiosity – will anyone actually purchase a phone for a Valentine’s day gift?

Update: T-Mobile announcement

As expected, T-Mobile has just gone ahead and released information about their Valentine’s one-day sale. The information goes along with most of what we already knew. Among the most important details, though, the press release includes information about the minimum requirements for data plans:

Voice Phones: 200 MB data plan

Most smartphones: 2 GB data plan

42 Mbps devices: 5 GB data plan

For more information, check out the press release or go to T-Mobile’s official site.

There you go, guys! It is official, so start making your plans!

Just last week we were told the Galaxy Nexus pre-orders would start November 29th and the [...]

Just last week we were told the Galaxy Nexus pre-orders would start November 29th and the device would launch on December 8th, but now a new pair of leaks appear to agree that Friday, December 9th is the big day.

First we have Eric Ravenscraft of RootzWiki who posted several internal documents from an authorized retailer (appears to be Best Buy) that states stores will receive shipments of the Galaxy Nexus today, December 6th, and employees are not allowed to display or sell them until December 9th. The note also says that each store will receive a minimum of 15 units.

Next we have Terrence O’Brien of Engadget who posted an internal email sent to Verizon employees. We already know that retail units are making their way to Verizon stores, but the note states that in-store marketing material will arrive on December 8th. The source says that merchandise will be rolled out after stores close on the 8th and the Galaxy Nexus will go on sale the 9th.

The official price is still expected to be $299 with 2-year contract, as reported by the Wall St. Journal and many other sites. This price is for the 32 GB model and we don’t know yet if Verizon plans to also sell a 16 GB model at a later date.

You would expect Verizon would send out some kind of press release with the launch this close, but that still hasn’t happened. For all we know there might not be a press release or pre-order program and the devices could just go on sale the morning of December 9th.

Whatever happens, I’m likely going to wait in line at Verizon this Friday morning. I’ve long bean a T-Mobile customer, but I’m off contract with them and I also have a Verizon line for my 4G LTE modem. T-Mobile has been great to me, but their future is still uncertain and I’m in need of a network with greater coverage area when I travel for work.

Hopefully Google or Samsung will release some more information about the unlocked GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus after the Verizon version goes on sale. No details have been shared on how long Verizon has an exclusive on the Galaxy Nexus in the US, but hopefully we will see the unlocked GSM version appear in retail stores like Best Buy and Radio Shack in the coming weeks.

Is anyone else planning a switch to Verizon for the Galaxy Nexus or will you continue to wait in hopes of an official version for AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile?

We have been waiting in awe for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, as well as some other devices that will blow our minds. Next year is going to be quite an exciting one for the Android world, though. As always, technology does not stop evolving, and today’s devices will look like nothing compared to what is coming.

Engadget just got a hold of some details and a rendered image for a device that we have not yet heard of. This superphone is code-named the HTC Zeta. As you can see in the image, its design is quite interesting. The dimensions are quite impressive for what the device is claimed to pack. Measuring 109.8 x 60.9 x 9.8mm, and weighing 5.15 ounces, the HTC Zeta will be relatively thin and reasonably light. Its sharp, thin edges make it look like quite an elegant device, though.

Sure it looks great, but the aesthetics are not what have us surprised. It is the rumored specs that have us looking forward to seeing more details about this beast. The device is rumored to come packed with Ice Cream Sandwich (with some form of HTC Sense), a quad-core 2.5 GHz APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 4.5-inch 720p HD display, 32 GB of internal storage, Beats Audio, Buetooth 4.0, an 8MP reafacing camera (dual LED flash, 1080p video) and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. All of this would be powered by a 1,830mAh battery.

Needless to say that these specs are quite impressive, especially that 2.5 GHz processor. In fact, that sounds a little too nice, and we should not be expecting a device like this to be released any time soon. In fact, Qualcomm does mention that their next-generation Krait core will be able of such clock speeds, but we do not expect such processors to be available until late 2012 at the earliest. A more likely launch window would be 2013.

As always, let’s take all of this information with a grain of salt. One thing is for sure, though. It will take a very long time for this device to be released if those specs happen to be real. Leaks of a device a year before its release are definitely rare, so it is fair game to suspect that some of the rumored specs may be wrong. Either way, this sure is a good-looking smartphone! Let’s see what next year holds for us! Things are looking good, aren’t they? Personally, this device looks great!

It seems Verizon might be playing around with the dates (either that or they really like the number 1) and will release the Motorola Droid RAZR a bit later than the rumored November 10 date. According to information dug up at Android Central, Big Red might have decided to go out of its comfort zone and release the device next Friday, November 11, instead of their normal Thursday launches.

This date happens to be a special day in the history of the known universe, since it will be the only 11/11/11 for the next 100 years. Just to make things more interesting, the screen shots also display that the Droid RAZR might be released at 11:11 am. Cute move, right? It makes a bit more sense when you consider “1″ is the thinnest number, but we assume customers would rather have their devices on the 10th.

You might think Verizon’s gimmicky launch is cool; some of you might be annoyed, especially if you’ve pre-ordered the phone and/or want it as soon as possible. It would also be upsetting to have to wait a while after the stores open, though we have a feeling several stores will sell the phone as soon as their doors open.

What do you guys think? Would you mind waiting until the 11th at 11:11 am?

Nexus/Droid Prime rumors have been popping up left and right for months now. Some may even think they’re getting out of hand. It’s sometimes uncertain how accurate these leaks are, but some good speculation never hurt anybody. And we’ve got a bit more for you today.

A twitter “poet” has been leaking details about the first device with Ice Cream Sandwich in verse form. The twitter handle is @tfleming223, and he’s been releasing the poem in correlation with the amount of followers he has. Yes, the more followers he gets, the more he discloses. Here’s what we have so far:

While things that go bump in the night, surely give you a fright,
It’s all in good fun as I share treats and panda fun.

So Instead of filling your belly with candies, jellies and other hollows eve fare,
Perhaps your palate will cast a ballot, for an ice cream sandwich instead.

With an internal date now set and LTE a sure bet,
Those that get Tim Cook’s new pet will be filled with green eyed regret.

But wait you cry for what date can you buy?
This the panda did shall share…

Fore on the date Bruce Wayne’s true father did die;
you shall in fact be able to buy in stores of red and black.

But those who pay other masters don’t fret,
over exclusive deals and bets

For in many other favors you will get your treat
be they GSM or wimax radios inside, the nexus brand will ride world wide@tfleming223Twitter

Once again these are unofficial rumors, so take them with a grain of salt. @tfleming223 has just published another verse of poetic leaks, and this time he hints that one of the Nexus variants will have a physical keyboard.

But as he lays in the corner with a Beer and a boner the Panda said with a sigh…
Be it a Droid or Nexus branded new toy, with dual cores hd screens, fancy new widgets and more….
The one with the keyboard is what I enjoy@tfleming223Twitter

This may seem odd; there’s never been a Nexus device with a keyboard before. While we believe this piece of information to be a bit sketchy, it’s also never good to completely ignore such an idea.

Having choices is always good, and some people love physical keyboards. A high-end device like the Nexus Prime with a keyboard may just be part of your dreams.

We wanted to reach out to our readers and ask what they think of this possibility. Please do take part in the poll and feel free to expand on your thoughts in the comments section. Do you guys think we’ll be seeing a Nexus Prime variant with a physical keyboard? Would you guys like that? Would you prefer the black slab form-factor?

New rumors about the magnificent upcoming Nexus device are all the rage right now. We may be so excited about the new Nexus phone that we’ve partly ignored the news about the Samsung Galaxy S III. If these rumors prove to be true, that phone will be quite the beast–even better than the Nexus Prime.

Samsung Galaxy S smartphones always come with specs that surpass most devices. Such might be the case for the upcoming successor in 2012. While the anonymous 4Chan user did not get to play with a working device, he claims to have seen images and heard Samsung representatives speak of some impressive features.

According to the sources, “Samsung is planning to reveal the Samsung Galaxy S III at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Samsung will try to get a simultaneous worldwide release for the Galaxy S III mid 2012.” This is to be expected, as Samsung also announced the latest Galaxy S device during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. If we look at the supposed specs, though, jaws really start dropping:

The specifications for the SGSIII are of course subject to change, but are Samsung-developed 2.0GHz quad-core CPU (no codename given), 1.5gb RAM, 32gb internal memory (with sd card slot), and a 4.65 inch screen. A new display called Super AMOLED III is being developed specifically for the phone (SGS had Super AMOLED, SGS II had Super AMOLED Plus, SGS III has Super AMOLED III) with 1280x1024 resolution, giving the phone a ppi of 352, which they emphasized that a 352ppi will make it the highest ppi mobile phone.anonymous4Chan user

While some seem a bit doubtful, these are some stunning specs! We’d heard of a possible 2 GHz dual-core processor (check out CNET’s report on it), most likely due to the new 28nm CPUs (clockable to up to 2.5 GHz). A quad-core processor clocked at those speeds would simply be a game-changer, though. Such a CPU would be stronger than many current PC processors.

As expected from Samsung devices, the screen will be beautiful. Measuring 4.65-inches diagonally and sporting the successor of the Super AMOLED Plus display, media should be looking quite bright and beautiful. We really do not know how much better Super AMOLED III could be (can they really make the display that much better?), but the resolution is the big shocker. 1280 x 1024p on a 4.65-inch screen is simply out of this world. This should be a mistake, since the aspect ratio is definitely off (4:3). Maybe the anonymous poster meant to say 1280x720p?

If you happen to like having the latest software and don’t like manufacturer UI overlays, the following will definitely come as great news. Ice Cream Sandwich might not be as awesome by then, though. Who knows – Maybe not even the latest…

The phone will have Androids latest Ice Cream Sandwich software and an all new TouchWiz 5 which has been in co-development with Google during the development of the Galaxy Nexus, so according to the Samsung representatives, it isn’t as “intrusive to Android” as previous TouchWiz versions were. It seems TouchWiz will play a minor role and only have little improvements to ICS. It won’t control the user experience. One of the reasons why they’re not going with a full TouchWiz experience is for a few reasons, one being that the ICS experience is very user friendly already and also it will also Samsung to update software on their phones at a faster rate than they have in the past.anonymous4Chan user

The device also “has a 2250 mAh battery, 10 megapixel camera and is capable of shooting 1080p video at 60 frames per second,” and “will come with an inbuilt NFC chip.” We are yet to see how much juice a device like this would suck out of a battery, but 2250 mAh sounds like it should get you through the day easily.

The device is 9mm thick, has a metal and glass body (a really clean, shiny look to it in the pictures)anonymous4Chan user
When it comes to aesthetics, Samsung is sure not to stay behind. As you can see in the quoted text to the left, this manufacturer will continue to bring among the slimmest and better-looking phones out there.

Whoa there, Samsung! We know some of these rumored specs might not end up being completely true. If most happen to make it to the Samsung Galaxy S III, though, this might just make the phone to have in 2012. If this is what next year’s devices will be sporting, the future cannot come fast enough. What do you guys think of these rumored specs? Were you expecting something better out of 2012? Are you impressed? Who’s looking forward to a device like this? Imagine what overclocking this beast would be like…

It is important to note that the information given is still based on rumors. The fact that it comes from an anonymous source may be somewhat odd , but we are simply presenting it to our readers for speculation. We definitely believe that some of these specs might not be as far-fetched as they seem (for a 2012 device), when other details seem improbable (screen definition being the main one). Which of these rumored specs seem dubious to you, guys?

Below is the full post found on 4Chan:

Samsung Galaxy S III:

I personally found their talk of the Galaxy S III much more interesting. They didn’t have a working model of the phone, but they had pictures and slides with specs/info:

- Samsung is planning to reveal the Samsung Galaxy S III at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Samsung will try to get a simultaneous worldwide release for the Galaxy S III mid 2012.

- The Samsung representatives were happy with the success of the Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy S II, their great relationship with Google and Android, and were talking about how they’re constantly trying to push the boundaries of mobile hardware technology. They revealed that the Galaxy S III will be their next flagship phone in 2012.

- The specifications for the SGSIII are of course subject to change, but are Samsung-developed 2.0GHz quad-core CPU (no codename given), 1.5gb RAM, 32gb internal memory (with sd card slot), and a 4.65 inch screen.
- The reason for no demo phone was that the screen technology was still in the final stages of design and production of them have not started.

- The device is 9mm thick, has a metal and glass body (a really clean, shiny look to it in the pictures), has a 2250mAh battery, 10 megapixel camera and is capable of shooting 1080p video at 60 frames per second.
- The phone will come with an inbuilt NFC chip.

- The phone will have Androids latest Ice Cream Sandwich software and an all new TouchWiz 5 which has been in co-development with Google during the development of the Galaxy Nexus, so according to the Samsung representatives, it isn’t as “intrusive to Android” as previous TouchWiz versions were.
- Price wasn’t revealed, but for all the specs of the phone, I’m guessing it’ll be very expensive.anonymous4Chan user

Current tablets are fun and Tegra 2 processors can hold their own, but there’s always room for improvement. Most of us have been waiting for those quad-core Tegra 3 tablets to show up, but we’ve seen nothing of them yet. They should now be close at hand, and according to Fudzilla’s sources, the first tablet featuring a Tegra 3 processor will be the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer 2.

The Transformer has been one of the most successful Honeycomb tablets in the market. The specs (same as pretty much every Honeycomb tablet) and the price have made this device a no-brainer. It’s one of the best options out there. Not to mention the keyboard dock, which not only makes it easier to type, but it also gives you much more battery life.

We assume the Transformer’s successor will have equal or more success. Especially if it does happen to be the first Kal-El device and the price stays as competitive as the first Transformer’s.

Times are changing, and tablets seem to stay pretty much the same. Most have a Tegra 2 processor, a 10-inch display, 1 GB of RAM and 8, 16 or 32 GB of storage space. You know the deal–tablets differentiate themselves mostly in aesthetics. We need a hardware upgrade, and a quad-core Tegra 3 processor will be very much welcome. Hopefully we can use the same keyboard with it.

What do you guys think? Would you go for a Tegra 3 Kal-El Transformer 2? Do you think it will actually be the first Tegra 3 device? We’ll have to wait and see. For now, let the speculation begin.

Very few people are willing to argue that Android has a truly great music app, even one not made by Google. There are some that try really hard, and get a few things right here and there, but it’s been something that has left the Android experience somewhat lacking. I can’t tell you how many people I have met who have an Android phone AND an iPod or Zune, simply because Android does not offer a similar experience yet. The closest we have seen to a truly new music experience for Android was the new UI for the Android 3.0 music app.

Additionally, we’ve recently seen the emergence of the Amazon cloud player, offering 5GB of free storage for your music, and inexpensive yearly plans for much more space to hold your tunes. Ever since I/O last year, Android fans have been teased and tortured at the hints and rumors that a Google powered cloud music system for Android was on it’s way. As it stands now, very few online services can compete with Amazon’s Cloud Player in terms of functionality, and none of them also offer a competitively priced music store built right into the app.

Recent events at Google HQ lead us to believe that the Google cloud based music player and store is right around the corner, though the details are just as vague as they were a year ago. So, we’ve scoured the web and combined everything legit we could find in the hopes of shedding some light on this Google Music redux.

The Screenshots

Recently the guys over at Techfrom10 were victims of a happy accident in which they were granted access to the Google Dev team’s “special” Android Market, used for internal testing. While those guys wen spelunking through the entire market, the shots they got of the Music app show us a new UI that could be described as a phone optimized version of the music app seen on any Honeycomb tablet. Additionally, we see in the settings panel for the app some options for caching, downloading, and streaming music from an online source, options that are not currently found in the Honeycomb app.

Google Preparing for Web Delivery

Maybe it was Amazon, maybe it was Google’s plan all along, or maybe someone at Google HQ got a hold of the company credit card and went bananas, but Google’s been buying up domains left and right. Domains like GoogleAlto.com, GoogleThunder.com, GoogleSoprano.com, and GoogleNebula.com to name a few. All of the names revolve around music or have a cloud related name, mostly music. None of these domains go anywhere yet, but it can’t be long until we see something pop up in one of these domains.

I/O is Right Around the Corner

Google’s great big developer conference is less than a month away now, making it the perfect place to drop their new music service. There’s been speculation all over about what Google will be bringing to I/O, even rumors that Android will not be a big focus this year. At Google’s League of Extraordinary Hackers event during SXSW this year, it was made plenty clear that the big focuses would be uniting Honeycomb and Google TV, as well as a heavier focus on Google’s web technologies. Google Music would suffice as a significant Android announcement, without focusing an entire keynote on it.

I’m sure that in the coming weeks more information will continue to slip into the ravenous hands of those eager to see Google step up and release a music service that rivals the current competition, but for now these seem like the biggest indicators of what the Music service has in store for us, and when we can really expect to dive into this new entertainment experience. Are you ready for Google Music?

Check out the latest Android gossip from CTIA.

Last week we attended CTIA and the MotoDev Summit where we had the chance to speak with tons of industry insiders. I tried my hardest to dig up some new Android info and was able to uncover a few interesting tidbits. Read along for the latest Android rumors.

Sprint 4G handsets

I was speaking with a Sprint developer and I asked him how committed was Sprint to Android. He casually said “Our first 4G phone will be Android.” I didn’t specifically ask him about 4G handsets, so I thought it was odd that he offered up this information.

Samsung has been rumored to be working on a 4G device for Sprint, so maybe that will end up coming true. Sprint just lit up a dozen new 4G markets last week (including my hometown Corpus Christi) and they are expected to have a 4G handset sometime in 2010.

Eclair (Android 2.0)

We had widely expected that Android 2.0 would ship this year on Motorola’s secret phone headed to Verizon. Motorola did not announce the device last week, which made me wonder about the status of Android 2.0.

I spoke with a high level executive from Samsung who was extremely knowledgeable about Android development. When I mentioned Android 2.0 shipping this year, he looked at me kind of weird and snickered. He told me not to expect Android 2.0 until Q2 2010.

We did see some Android devices running Eclair, but they appeared far from finished. No one else was talking about Android 2.0 so I’m starting to doubt a 2009 release. (I will explore the Moto/Eclair issues further in a post later today)

INQ Mobile

We have known for awhile now that INQ Mobile would be producing an Android smartphone in 2010. I bumped into an INQ head employee and quizzed him on the new handset. He provided no specific details on the hardware, but did mention some other interesting info.

The INQ smartphone should appear on a major United States carrier in 2010. INQ will provide a highly customized UI for Android. I believe his exact words were, “We are going to pimp out Android!” Expect the device to be heavily integrated with social networks Spotify, Facebook, and Skype.

LG Android

LG recently announced their first Android phone (GW-620), but don’t expect it to show up in the United States. Instead we should see a new Android device from LG that is targeted for a major US carrier. I was told it could be awhile before LG makes the announcement. Look for more information at the next CTIA show in March, 2010.

TomTom Android

We have previously reported that TomTom might be working on an Android app, but it could be awhile before it sees the light of day. A TomTom employee said they had received many requests for their product on different smartphone platforms, but iPhone is the focus right now. From what I could gather nothing is in the works at the moment and TomTom will continue to gauge the community interest.

Google Maps 4.0

I asked every maps and GPS company I came across about the possibility of Google releasing their own navigation software. Most people had no idea what I was talking about so maybe it is time to lay this rumor to bed.

I still believe it is a natural evolution for Google Maps on mobile to provide spoken turn-by-turn directions, but it would certainly turn the GPS industry upside down. Google services are already integrated into many GPS products, so I guess Google is not ready to upset those companies by releasing their own navigation service.

Get all the latest talk from the inside sources.

People either love it or hate it when we post Android “rumors”. No large company will ever comment on product that has not been announced, so there is no way to officially confirm this information. However, we have a lot of friends from these companies and they like to talk. Whenever I get a juicy rumor from a reliable inside source, I will share it and let you decide how credible we have been.

The follow is a collection of tips we have received over the last few days:

Rumor 1: As of next week, Motorola is expanding the rollout of developer units of the Sholes by a factor of 3. There should hopefully be more info in the wild shortly after the new batch of them go out to testers at Motorola and Google. Also, a Motorola representative was dispatched to Google’s (removed) building last Friday, with a briefcase carried under guard. Said briefcase did not happen to have any Sholes in it, but something even newer by the Moto crew. I’m not sure what. Yet.

Comment: This is in line with what I have been hearing. The “Sholes” hardware is practically finished and Motorola and Google are working to finish off Android 2.0. This batch of new units could offer a slight hardware refresh. We first reported the “Sholes” would feature 512 MB of internal storage, but later speculated it could be as high as 16 GB. I have no idea what the new hardware is, but we did report that Motorola is working on 10 Android phones.

Rumor 2: Donut should be released by Google by the end of next week. It will be made available to (but not necessarily released in an update) T-Mobile and HTC in phone images. This is assuming the schedule doesn’t slip yet again.

Comment: Once again, this confirms what we have been hearing from other sources. Much of the Android 1.6 code is already available in the AOSP, so this is no surprise. Once T-Mobile has the images, it should be a month before we see the OTA update. Look to late October for the official Android 1.6 rollout.

Rumor 3: The Sholes’s CPU officially supports Neon. Granted, this is very weak news by itself, until you know what Neon is but if you’re a developer looking forward to making use of it, it’ll make you jump for joy.

Comment: We already reported this back in August and now another source confirms it. You can read more about Neon technology on the Arm site.

Rumor 4: The Motorola “Sholes” will launch on Verizon as the Motorola Tao.

Comment: I’ve seen some internal documents from Motorola that had the phone name blocked out and it was only three letters, so Tao is a definite possibility. Give me a couple hours and I should be able to confirm this with another source.
