Best Spam Blocker

My wife and I recently switch our pre-paid Service to T-Mobile. So far we’re please with the exception being that her phone is getting a lot of SMS spam. I see there are several SMS/Call blocking apps available. So I thought I’d poll the community to see what the “And Me” users prefer.

I use the on built into ROM toolbox pro and it works great.

Sorry about previous post. Currently I use the built in blocker for my GS3. I used to use Blacklist and it worked well.

Aside from blacklisting the numbers, there isn’t much you can do with SMS spam. There’s nothing preemptive you can do.
I know that Canadian carriers have a system that let’s you report spam by forwarding it to 7726 (SPAM) but I don’t know that it’s the same in the US

T-Mobile offers the same 7726 forwarding. I’ve spent some time on her phone reporting some of the numbers. However, it isn’t very practical forwarding the 15-20 spam messages a she sometimes gets.

I’ll have to give Blacklist a try. I see that in the play store and is well rated. If that doesn’t work then we may just spend the 99 cents on a new sim and get a new number and hope we don’t have this issue with that number.

  I hate to state the obvious but have you tried texting back STOP. Legally they have to oblige by this.

I’m on Verizon and I’ve had about a handful of unwanted SMS over a few years, that’s it. I think the trouble may stem from the carrier switch. Not sure how effective any apps will be unless they block everything not on your safe list.

The FCC already has laws against unsolicited text messages being sent to your phone from auto-dialers, spam-bots, etc. You can file complaints and hope for the best, get a new number and switch carriers.

I installed BlackList a few days. All of the spam we were getting was coming from numbers which had the same prefix and were periodically updating the last couple digits, presumably after they had been detected as spam. I setup a black list rule for that prefix, and we’ve seen no new spam! Yay! I checked the logs and they noted all of the spam it had blocked from numbers with that prefix.

So far I’m pretty happy with the app. My only complaint is that by default it sent notifications for the messages it blocked. I don’t know why I would want to be notified of messages I want block(i.e. messages I don’t want to be notified for in the first place), but it was easy enough to turn off.
