Fairphone: Anyone heard of it?

This is the first I’ve heard of Fairphone and, alas, it is only available in Europe at the moment, but I think it’s a really neat concept.

I would love to see a company like Republic Wireless make this their next handset, or at least something like it. Be sure to watch the well produced video near the bottom of the page.

Its specs are not exactly an HTC One or Galaxy S4 but, I think, generally respectable for a mid-range phone.

So what do you think? Is this a concept that will take off or is it dead before it even gets off the ground?

It’s actually a nice looking device, and it shows it doesn’t need to cost the earth (no pun intended) to produce a ‘greener’ Device.

qHD screen resolution is the only thing that would hold me back on this. Other than that, looks good to me!

It just appeared on my radar, and I’m definitely interested. Decent price, good specs, and of course warm fuzzies that none of the others provide.

The only real downside is that it doesn’t actually exist yet. They want 5000 preorders and it’ll be available in the autumn. I was hoping for a new phone right now.

But maybe I’ll wait for it. It’s a really cool initiative, and it’s local (for me at least), rather than from some big impersonal megacorp. This stuff deserves to succeed.

This is great! Subscribed to their blog, recommended it to my sister and will definitely consider it for my next purchase. Very excited to see that they have plans for upcoming platforms like Ubuntu Mobile and Firefox OS as well.

Thing is, producing phones this way should be a requirement, not a selling point. Hopefully we’ll get there.
