ifttt – Put the internet to work for you

I was reading the Pebble Kickstarter page and found this awesome site called ifttt. The gist of the site is to put the internet to work for you. Check out their about page here: http://ifttt.com/wtf

From their about page: Think of all the things you could do if you were able to define any task as: when something happens (this) then do something else (that).

Some great examples I found while browsing are:
ifttt / Weather to GMail | If its raining tommorow, send me an email!

ifttt / Help me find my lost phone! | “Send an e-mail to yourself using the hashtag #lostphone in the subject or body and ifttt will call your phone, helping you find it.”

ifttt / Profile Picture Management | When Facebook profile picture changes, update Twitter profile picture.

ifttt / Email me ’10 Things… | Email me ’10 Things To Know This Morning’

I have setup a ton of them so far and think you will really enjoy it to. It’s currently in Beta, but its allowing anyone to sign up and even has a Recipes page so you can see what other people are setting up and how many others are using it.

** While not exactly an Android app, I figure its a web tool that I would consider an app so I placed it in that category. **

Man I love me some ifttt! I’m glad to see that Pebble is getting them so much attention. They’ve been around for years now but it’s such a handy service they deserve all the attention they’re getting.

The only downside right now is that jobs only run every 15 minutes, which isn’t exactly real-time, but I heard they are planning an update soon that might change that.

Clark – got any good ifttt examples you use on a daily basis? Seems like you’ve known about this for a while so would love to see what you have come up with.

I don’t have any that I’ve used long-term, most of the time it ends up being weird little tasks I need while I’m traveling, or during a busy week, etc. Most recently I used it to automatically grab my Instagram photos and add them to my Dropbox, which allowed me to automatically print them when they showed up on my home computer.

Dude, have you done a how-to post on this yet? Or are you going to launch a a service?

Massive opportunity there for things like birthdays, functions etc!
