Liquid Screen Protector?

Posted Apr 26, 2012 at 3:01 pm in Threads > Smartphones & Tablets

I recently saw someone post about Liquid-Armor (now called Hard-Shield) screen protector. It is a liquid which you apply to a device screen and after it cures it provides a “nano-coating” layer of protection to the screen.

It is made by a company called Dynaflo (www.dynaflousa.com) and here is a YouTube link for the application process:

I’ve seen some user YouTube videos claiming that it works great. Have any of you ever tried this product before? I don’t like screen protectors but I do like scratch-free screens, so maybe this is the next great big product?

One downfall is that it lasts about 6 months, so you do have to re-apply, but it’s pretty quick and easy to do so and they claim that a bottle has about 50 applications.

I’ve never used that product before but I’ve heard that many people like using Rain-X for this purpose.

    • amgala

Wow I’ve never heard of that. How well is that supposed to work?

  • Bpear96

Looks pretty nice, i wonder if it really works that well though. And if it makes the screen feel tacky or anything like that.

    • Bpear96

Also i wonder if it would work, if you applied it to the whole phone, back, sides etc

    • amgala

I just viewed another review video with not so great (well, terrible) comments about this spray. Around the 7:15 mark, he does say that the screen feels a bit tacky.

Oh well, maybe it’s just snake oil.

      • amgala

Although, he does us a dummy phone. Do dummy phones have the same glass as production phones? That could be a point of contention. Also, I wonder if you can apply multiple coats.

        • Carlos icee0711

None of the dummy phones my store has ever received have had a real screen. They’re all plastic so I would imagine that guy goofed in reading instructions of it bonding to glass.

Most of the smartphones now have gorillas glass or other improved glass. They are scratch resistant by themselve. What this spray will change?

    • Bpear96

Added protection, gorilla glass can still scratch but it much less likely.

I have tp for half year. I am using it without screen protector and doesn’t have any scratches. Ofcource I am not carring it with keys :) . One thing I don’t like is fingerprints, but in the advertising of this spray they didn’t say anything about it , so probably it will not demagnetize fingerprint magnet)

        • Bpear96

Yeah id agree with you there :D i have a TP as well, and id say tablets with gorilla glass can be fine bare, but smartphones, some users might feel more comfortable with added protection on them.

I call snake oil. If it was really that simplistic, wouldn’t the manufacturers just tell Corning to stick where the sun don’t shine and save themselves a ton of money by using this stuff instead?

    • amgala

One reason would be longevity. As I mentioned above, I guess it only lasts about 6 months and then needs a re-application.

AndroidAndMe, how about doing a product review? Maybe they’d send you a free sample?

    Emperor’s New Clothes much?

Looks good, Linus Tech Tips did a video on it, and it proved quite strong, but I’m still unsure myself. I’d need to feel the screen after it’s applied.

  • droilfade

I do not use any screen protectors……and frankly did not face any problem with the gorilla glass!

I had this done when i got my samsung note 3 and i saw the best buy crew do this. When they had finished i received my phone it was so shiny, and smooth, and i can tell it is a great screen protector because it was so thick. i never had a problem with it when i had it on. unfortunately my phone broke and i had to get another, which they did not put the same screen protector. Luckily that brand has a one year warranty were i can call and they shall send me another. That is what i plan to do and I’m glad they have this to offer considering that it costs around $25.00

I have used it on my Galaxy Note2. Proven effective to protect your screen! Dropped my phone more than 4x on hard grounds. No scratch no cracks! and it totally protects my phone screen! I just got it done again on my Note3.
    Cheers!

Samsung use gorilla glass which is very strong.

I have the first galaxy note and not a scratch.
