Should Google buy Tmobile?

I recently read an article about why Google should buy Tmobile.
Here are some of the pointers:
- Tmobile and Google have a long history of cooperation
- Tmobile has the infrastructure (towers) and Google has the spectrum
- Both companies need each other to succeed in the mobile industry (the article explains in detail why this is).

Wow, that’s an interesting idea. I have been a Tmobile customer for 8 years, and I’d like to see this brand continue for it’s dedication to customer satisfaction. Wonder what management has on the horizon to bring it back from the edge? The article has some solid propositions for how such a merger could work for both companies.

What would that mean for Google/Motorola’s relationship with Verizon, though?

  that’s an interesting point (the one about Google and Motorola). That slipped through my mind for some reason. it’ll be interesting to see. the article did say that this is a prime time b/c Tmo doesn’t have the iPhone yet… but as we all can see from this morning, that’s probably going to change in the coming year.

Google owning Motorola, and T-mobile could lead to a serious monopoly, depending on how Google would use the 2 companies. Not sure if it would be a good idea.

I want google to break the carriers of their crazy practices, not become one. I suppose there’s an argument to be made that this might further that goal along, but I don’t see it as the best way.

  I agree. Maybe somewhere down the line, but not right now. Google is putting out cheap, good, unlocked phones that are making 2 year contracts look like a fool’s game.

    and it would go perfectly with Tmo’s move for all Value plans in the coming years. but Tmo’s current pricing for the Value plan for the Nexus 4 is more than just puzzling (you actually pay more than just buying unlocked).

I daydream of a world where Google owns its own carrier where all it does is provide mobile data so sms and voice is done through Google Voice. There are unlocked devices, a large HSPA+/LTE footprint, chocolate fountains, unicorns…

Well if you look at Motorola before and after they were bought by Google, that much hasn’t changed and even less would change with T-Mobile. There seems to be some false expectations towards Google. Like any other company they have to make money and in addition to that keep there shareholders happy.

  It’s more likely that companies in the exact same industry will try to merge duplicate functions/operations to get some sort of synergy.
  
  Where else companies like google/Motorola/T-shirt mobile are complimentary to one another. So although there are efficiencies to be had, each are specialist within their own industry.

I think with google being under so much scrutiny now as it is with them being called a monopoly, I can only imagine how this would make that even worse. Like stated in a previous article on droid-life i think, there is to many red flags that has kept google out of the carrier business, although I would love them to become their own carrier, they would most likely put serious pressure from a price point on the other carriers.

I think it would be pretty cool for them to do, but I doubt they would. Now that they have control of motorola, the thought of them buying a carrier service probably wouldn’t happen any time soon. Especially with the idea that they want to make a much cheaper true unlimited plan. And also seeing that T-Mobile just made an agreement to sell Apple devices, well I don’t think Google would want to own a carrier that promoted their competition. I could be wrong, but unfortunately the likelihood of this happening is slim. I just want to have a Google service with a Google phone. That would be pretty dope. And having constant updates on the Android software instead of having to wait half a year for an out of date one.

Google may be teaming up with Dish Network to create their own Wireless network! Dish has the spectrum holdings and Google has money.

I agree with the others saying that it could lead to a monopoly. But however it would be nice to finally have an update on the g2x jeje
