Slightly Disappointed in Google Drive

I have been drooling over the thought of Google Drive ever since it has been rumored. I was picturing some all-powerful service that would blow my mind. So far, what I have seen is just a large extension of Google Docs. I envisioned being able to select folders on my phone that I wanted to be sync’d to Drive and the same on my computer. That way I could have pictures taken on my phone automatically added to my desktop if I wanted, or I could have my aCar backups folder automatically upload new backups to Drive. Same could go for Titanium backups so those would always be in a safe place (since my Nexus has no external storage). I already had to wipe my Nexus to get it to boot a few months ago when a GMaps update sent it into a boot loop, and that time I lost everything (luckily my pictures were backed up to G+).

Don’t get me wrong, Google Drive is cool and is definitely a step in the right direction, but after all this waiting, I thought it would be more. The search features it includes are awesome and the pricing is dirt cheap for those who want more storage. I was Googling if it was possible to just sync certain folders with Drive and I came across this blog on ComputerWorld. I am feeling pretty much the exact same way this author is.

Yeah, I expected a lot more integration with Google products. I guess it’s just something that is going to slowly improve, instead of wowing us a launch.

Yeah, being able to select folder to be synced would have been nice. Maybe they’ll add that functionality in the future.

At least for now, it offers me another option to transfer files aside from having to unmount my SD card.
