So how does this percentile stuff work?

I don’t see anything specific that tells you how this works. Is it based on people upvoting your comments, # of comments posted. I feel like I am missing something here.

The system works on reputation, which users can score from leaving comments, starting threads, getting up-votes, etc.

basically, the closer you are to 100, the higher you rank amongst your peers on the site. If you have rank 10, for instance, about 10% of the registered site users have fewer or equal your number of points, which you score by interacting and posting sensible answers to people’s threads :)
