Tablet as Universal Remote?

We are thinking of getting a Samsung Galaxy Note Tablet for various reasons. One is the IR Blaster. Has anyone used an Android device as a universal remote? If so, how has the experience been? Any recommended apps?

I used to use the IR blaster on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, via the Peel Smart Remote app. Lately I’ve been using the Google TV Remote app, which controls over WiFi. A lonnnng time ago when I was using Boxee, I had a remote app too, and it also used WiFi.

Depending on the device you’re trying to control, you’ll probably have more luck with IR, but WiFi is always my first choice because it doesn’t require a line-of-sight to the device you want to control.

I also use the Google TV Remote App over wifi. I can’t say that I use it a lot, just because I have had a logitech remote well before the Google TV came out, plus I also use the logitech keyboard that came with my Revue. Good thing is that the Google TV Remote App is free, so all you can do is try it and see what you prefer.
