To Tablet or Not to Tablet

I’m looking for help in making the decision to purchase a tablet (probably a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0). I currently have a Razr Maxx and a Nook Simple Touch that I use for reading. I use the phone for most of my web browsing/social networking/etc. I *love* the NST – the battery life is amazing and it’s a joy to read. The downside of it is that putting non-Nook books on it is kind of a pain. I am trying to decide if I need/want to get a tablet to use mostly as an e-reader. The upside is that books with color pictures will in color and it will be much, much easier to get all my books on a tablet. The downsides are battery life and eye strain when reading for long periods. I have thought hard about rooting the NST, so that I can put other books on it easier and may still do that.

So, is anyone else in this same boat? I’m just not convinced that I *need* a tablet and I don’t want to spend the money if I’m not going to use it much. The money part of the decision isn’t the issue, it’s more the issue of “will it actually be useful as I want to use it”. Do people who have 7 inch tablets use them as e-readers and if so how is the eye strain and how is battery life when just using it as an e-reader (not connected to WiFi)?
