[WARNING] Google Music and Root

Posted May 16, 2012 at 8:31 am in Threads > News

If you have root, then be careful. If you authorize 10 devices (different ROMs) to your Google Account, then you can’t add any more. It used to be as simple as deauthorizing devices every time you reach you limit. As of now, you can only deauthorize 4 device PER YEAR. Be careful…I just had to reupload all my music to a different account because of this.

XDA Thread about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656038

…. Crap…. I knew that it did that, but I didn’t know you could only deactivate 4….

Yep, I wish I would have found out sooner, I knew I was close to my 10 but didn’t realize that it was going to be a problem.

Using Titanium Backup or any other ‘restore APP+DATA’ app (while conversely UNCHECKING ‘restore from google servers’ when you first log in – will keep the same device and not create a new one.

I can confirm this, I have put 5-6 ROMS on my phone this year and only have 2 devices authorized associated with my device.

    1. The day i got it
    2. The first time i unlocked/rooted/Flashed my device. Don’t freak out!

I just updated my post on this too, but you should give it a shot again now. I was able to deauthorize all of my devices when I tried it again a few minutes ago.

Haven’t heard anything from Google yet on whether this indicates that there’s a new policy in place.

They are making a new policy that should help rooter not be caught in this situation.
