What are your thoughts on the new AAM staff and the changes to come if any at ll?

Posted Jun 17, 2013 at 1:30 pm in Threads > Opinions

Just out of curiosity.. Nothing sinister.. Shout out below and let me know what you’re first impressions are so far of the “New AAM”

  • uknowme

Damn you beat me to making a thread! It’s cool though.

Personally I’m hoping they keep their word and everything stays the same. I just want more news. Been kind of quiet in these parts.

    • jerrbomb

I agree.. But it does seem to be getting a little louder.. And my bad dude.. Lol

  • jamal adam

Since it’s only the first day, I can’t really give a solid impression, I need at least a week, however, I like that they are already on top of the news and have posted articles. I hope they continue to keep this design and layout and as unkownme said, I hope they keep their word. All of this is still sinking in so we have to give them the benefit of the doubt and see how they do in the weeks, months, and even years ahead.

    • Tom Klein

The design and layout will certainly not change. We hope to take many of the features from A&Me and implement a similar look and feel to Tmonews and Todaysiphone. The Wimberlys built a beautiful site and we will only try and enhance it by way of more content, news and exclusive articles

      • jamal adam

        That’s good to hear.

  • SGB101

As above its too early to say, but the post rate has picked up dramatically over the last 24h, however some of that may be just down to catch up, as they was no posts last week even tho there was a lot of news.

I feel kinda sad to be honest. This was never really the site for every piece of Android news. They touched on select issues/news and intriguing issues/news that appealed to its core audience. I get the feeling that there will be more general news stories that we can get elsewhere.

The Fresh Meat and Top 10 game release columns will be sorely missed if no one picks them up. Most importantly: WHO WILL FEED OUR THIRST FOR NEXUS RUMORS?!?!?!

Okay, i’ll calm down. I will still frequent the site but I wonder how different it will be in a month or two.

    • jamal adam

I love the Fresh Meat and Top 10 columns and I think those two should be continued because they showcase the amazing new apps and games that are really useful and fun.

    • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

You will see those weekly columns and a few new ones.

        Well that’s good news then.

  • OnIn2

I missed the announcement, but noticed the slowdown of articles and the recent surge.

Where (link) was the announcement ?

  • Dr.Carpy

I agree with Jamal, I also will take a wait and see approach. I think that a small sample size is warranted to see what we have gained and what we’ve lost. The site lately had seemed so what desolate. However, I really enjoy the opinions and insights of the members of this site. I like that there doesn’t seem to be the same level of vitriolic debate. To me respect among users is what I’ve always valued, and the Wimberley bros. did as well. They would often tamp down overly aggressive behavior. That doesn’t happen on a lot of other sites. So I hope the close community feeling I get when I come to this site remains. Information is great, and it’s a seminal part, but respectful interaction remains paramount to my using enjoyment.

  • jerrbomb

I totally agree.. I will be kinda deterred if this site goes south.. I’m a loyal member and the Wimberley did an awesome job

  • MC_Android

Well I hope they keep things relatively the same thing, but the new staff have updated the site as they should have compared to other Android news sites like Android Central and ~ Police.

It’s nice to see people coming back to the AndroidandMe again though :) Traffic has definitely gone up

  • jerrbomb

It definitely has.. The article on the nexus 7 got 200+ comments.. I’m a majority are guests.. Us veterans are gonna be swamped in noobs.. Lol..

    • http://htcsource.com Nick Gray

Dustin did a great job on that article, but it didn’t hurt that it made the front page of Reddit for a bit.

      • jerrbomb

He did do a great job

As you guys can probably tell, we’re working hard to get back into the groove of pushing out the important Android news stories. While we will be doing more news than we have been over the past few months, the focus for us is still to find a unique angle and add our own commentary to the stories we cover so that the readers get more than the simple facts.

We’re also working hard to make sure the new writer live up to your expectations. Android and Me has always centered around quality content and we’ll continue to do so under the new ownership.

    • jerrbomb

I hope so.. Because AAM has all be one of those sites to push out originality more often than not

“the focus for us is still to find a unique angle and add our own commentary to the stories we cover”

“make sure the new writer live up to your expectations.”

I was a little concerned but I’m glad to hear that! I trust what you say so I feel better. Now I’m excited about what’s to come.

  • jamal adam

I think one thing that would be very nice would be to have all the new staff introduce themselves so that we readers can get to know them a little better.

    • jerrbomb

I second that… And get involved in commenting on threads.. I like staff feedbacks

      • jamal adam

When the staff is involved in the commenting on threads and articles it makes for a more vibrant community and really shows that they care about their readers as well as the success of the site. I feel like that’s one of the many reasons why I love this site.

  • http://Androidandme.com David Beren

Hey guys, staff introduction posts are forthcoming one day at a time. I’ll have each editor introduce themselves and on the last day I’ll introduce myself as the new head honcho. Believe me, anyone who knows my work from TmoNews will attest that staff engagement with our audience is a huge deal and that’s something that will not change, only get better with time. In fact, I think you’ll see that everything you want will increase, including top 10 posts, weekly posts etc. Our goal is to simply carry on with what is already working with AAM, why break what’s already working?

    • jamal adam

      Perfect, can’t wait!

    • jerrbomb

Will the top commenters still he featured? I mean I’m not trying to keep rubbing the magic AAM lamp here.. Eh.. Lol.. Nvm.. You did say that you won’t fix what’s not broken.. On behalf of AAM.. We will back you up until the ship starts to sink.. Or it goes in a whole different direction.. Lol.. That’s when their will be mutiny or abandonment.. Lol.. And yes. I’m a loyal fan of TMONews.. So I can a test to that for sure..

      • http://Androidandme.com David Beren

I can’t say there won’t be any changes, but there might have been changes under any leadership, old or new. I can tell you we won’t do anything that we feel takes away from the magic that has made AAM work thus far. It’s just as likely Taylor and Clark could have made a change that wasn’t well received as well could and vice versa. For the moment, our goal is to increase the amount of posts while still maintaing the voice that you all love with the site.

    • MC_Android

Hey, I really hope it is in your agenda to add an “edit comment feature” if you are going to be making changes to the site. That is my only suggestion :)

      • jerrbomb

Good one.. Plus one for you

  • http://www.androidandme.com Brooks

Hi! I’m Brooks. I’m a new writer coming over from DroidDog. I’ll be getting my first post up in the next couple of days. I tell you what though, I couldn’t be more excited about being able to participate in these forums with everyone. We didn’t have a forum at DroidDog unfortunately. You’ll get to know me a little better whenever David asks my to write my intro post about me, but I’m pretty stoked to be here!

    • jerrbomb

Yes.. Yur posts on DroidDog were amazing

      • http://www.androidandme.com Brooks Barnard
