Why are Richard Yarrell’s comments always downvoted?

Posted Jan 17, 2013 at 11:58 am in Threads > Opinions

I mean, some of his comments seem like blatant fanboyism, but it seems like EVERY comment of his gets downvoted below threshold. I’m just wondering if I’m missing something.

As someone who has defended him more than once I think it’s silly. You don’t like what he has to say, that’s fine. It’s when people like squiddy20(who only posts when Richard posts, that weird in itself) start to curse at him I get offended. I will only down vote people who behave rudely to others on site. Richard can say what he wants, no bother to me. Even as a Canadian, I know he qualifies for first Amendment. I read comments from him that were normal, and soon after he’s at -30. I think it’s nonsense, but the message I want to convey is that it seems like mob mentality meets cyber bullying. Vote on what is said, not on who said it. I would hate to think that what has happened to Richard could happen to any other user here.

I fully agree with you! While Richard’s comments can be obnoxious squiddy20 has comments that attacks another user directly. Yet,squiddy20 always gets upranked. A troll is a troll, know matter who he is trolling.

Also, anyone else feel that Richard and squiddy20could be the same person? Then again, squiddy20 could be multiple people since squiddy20 isn’t a registered account.

The Verge just got editable comments, can AndroidAndMe please be next!

      • kazahani

I pointed out last year sometime that I thought Squiddy20 and Richard were the same guy. I got downvoted to like -14 for that, which I still don’t understand.

It’s because if you have been hanging around Android communities for the last 4-5 years or so, you would know that Squiddy didn’t always just troll Richard’s posts. At one point he was a very helpful member of the Android community. I think he just does it now for fun, he’s a college student and has a lot of free time at hand.

I’ll admit that Richard gets under my skin, so I downvote nearly any of his posts that I see. After several years I’m sick of the same drab stories bashing everyone’s carrier/manufacturer of choice if it doesn’t align with Richard’s preferences.

To sum things up, Richard has little to no respect for anyone else; so most of us show him the same respect. He’s bashed the intelligence of several members of the community, just because they have a different opinion.

You say he is a Canadian, but comments above state that he uses AT&T, VZW and T-Mobile, or are you Canadian? Sorry, just a little confused ..
Oh, and I am a Canadian, so I know we do not have those carriers up here …

And I hate Trolls, as they just like to antagonize other users with stupid comments ..
Just wish they would leave intelligent comments for once, and not spout crap.

@BetterWithRoot: I’ve always found your posts to be humorous and well thought out. Fair or unfair, even though I read every post before voting, I know when I read one of your posts that I’ll be entertained or informed. So +1 to you as well. Thanks for being one of he nicer posters here. I think being positive is cool!

  • jerrbomb

Im not a regular.. Well now I am.. But it seems this Richard Guy is recieving bad treatment.. And people are abusing the power of down voting..

  • Charlong666

I think it has to do with how he goes about stating his facts, it’s one thing to say you *insert carrier name* isn’t good. It’s another to go from carrier to carrier, saying each one is garbage. I also some of it is the mob mentality though. Truth be told though, some of the things he says are pretty outlandish, but I don’t think it warrants the down voting he receives.

  • jerrbomb

Sounds like he is in a bit of a rut.. Peo ple should tell him he being insane instead of provoking the situation by over downvoting then..

    • redraider133

People have tried to explain to him on multiple occasions in comments why he gets down voted to which he would respond with some smart remark in line with, idc if I get down voted for what I say, so I actually think he enjoys it as strange as it sounds.

  • kazahani

My only problem with Richard is that all his posts are waaaaaaaay tl;dr.

  • AmarAK

Sometimes I feel he enjoys getting downvoted and loves to irritate people

  • redraider133

I think it is the fact that much of the time he is trashing other android manufacturers/users if they don’t use the device he uses or carrier he uses. Honestly I find it funny some of the responses he gets but when 99% of his posts are trashing others I can see why they get such extreme down votes.

  • jerrbomb

I guess every one has that uncle joe.. the annoying uncle you just HAVE to deal with…

  • yankeesusa

I think its because it just snowballed into one big mess. I have seen some of his posts where he is adamant about a phone but a lot of people here are adamant and say the same things. I think he just pissed off the wront person at the wront time and it just kept getting worse. He does have some good points and then he has crazy opinions that people may not like but that’s why their opinions. For example he was saying bad things about the thunderbolt and someone got mad at him for that. Last time I checked the thunderbolt was hated by a lot of people but somehow his comment got blown out of proportion. At this point most people just downvote just to be part of the crowd like the iphone crowd. oh well, to each its own. I will upvote his comments anytime I see them and he makes a good point.

  • jerrbomb

That’s the way it should be

  • honourbound68

i remember reading an explanation here on why a certain person “dislikes” (to put it mildly) Richard and it stemmed from an issue irl . Sadly its continued here and i don’t think it’s going to end (I remember this going on for as long as I’ve been a registered user at A&Me). All I can say to his detractors is let go of the hate. it’s not worth it in the long run.

  • jamal adam

I feel that as long as anyone makes a good point or provides thought provoking comments, I will upvote them.

  • GE918

I just wish all the bashing would stop. Can’t we all just get along?

  • jerrbomb

I guess in richards case getting along cant happen…

  • Dezzy

He will comment on a device’s article and insult someones choice of device because it isnt the Note2 which is his current IT device. He fails to take into account not everyone wants such a large device in their space or next to their face. And then acts if his choice is the end all be all and if you have anything else you’re not a true android fan or what not. It just bugs the heck out of me. I really think he enjoys annoying people. Yes, he does have good opinions at times but when he tries to invalidate someone else’s opinion or choice with his own then thats when he crosses the line and needs to be put in check.

  • OptimusL

I always see him bashing other OEMs and telling others that their phones are bootlegs and Samsung is the best “period”.
