Is Cross Platform Multiplayer Gaming Coming To Android and iPhone?

Are you disappointed by the lack of quality games for Android?  Would you like to see more multiplayer games for Android?  Wouldn’t it be cool to have cross platform games where Android and iPhone users could challenge each other?  If you answered Yes to any of these questions, keep an eye on Octane Technologies.

We recently reviewed iPingpong 3D and had a chance to talk with the developer.  I thought their game was an excellent candidate for online multiplayer and inquired about the possibility of adding the feature in a future release.  This is what they had to say.

Octane Technologies is hard at work creating games for both Android and iPhone platforms. The iPhone version of iPingpong supports WiFi multiplayer and Octane is working on solutions to bring similar gameplay to the Android. Updates to the game will be made regularly and will include as many feature requests as possible.

Develepores are still learning the Android platform and how to take advantage of its power.  Octane has released one of the few true 3D titles with iPingpong 3D.  I’m excited to see what they can do in the future.  I think it is only a matter of time before we see more quality, online multiplayer titles.  By offering games on both the Android and iPhone platform, developers can expand their customer base while users benefit from a larger community.

Mobile phone gaming has become more popular as of late, but has a long way to go before catching up with other handheld consoles and the PC.  Can you image having a service similar to Xbox LIVE or Steam coming to a mobile platform like Android?  It will happen.  The only question is “When?”

The thought of cross platform multiplayer gaming is incredible, definately the future of mobile gaming. I truly believe if their able to achieve that, developers will no doubt begin to bring their Android game design in par with the iPhone. Can’t wait to see wait!
