Holiday Buyer’s Guide – Android gifts for him

It’s Christmas time and that means one thing… buying stuff. Alright, alright, we also like the family and the friends and the food and all the good stuff too, but that’s coming at the end of the month. The first half of December is usually dominated by shopping. Mad dashes around the mall, endless hunting online for the perfect gift- each year it’s the same routine. Since this is the first holiday with Android in full swing, we thought it’d be fun to run down some of the best Android accessories, gifts, and phones.

Each day this week we’ll be posting a new list of goodies. We’ll do our best to highlight some of the coolest and most-wanted Android items along with a photo, short description, price, and link to purchase. We know it’s starting to get close to the big deadline and you might be cutting it close with the shipping so we recommend ordering as soon as possible and always double checking your shipping options and dates (worst case scenario: you end up in a brick and mortar store).

Body Glove Snap On Case

holiday-bg-image-casesNothing makes Santa cry like a broken phone. At the prices of today’s smartphones, each purchase becomes an investment worthy of being fiercely protected.

We took a good look at the Body Glove case for the G1 way back in March. Since then, Body Glove has rolled out cases for almost every Android phone. The cases are sturdy, stylish, and affordable, the trifecta in phone protection. Plus they come with a belt clip that doubles as a kickstand and we are a big fan of multitaskers. (Body Glove Snap On Cases for the G1, MyTouch, Hero, and Droid – $23.95 to $29.95).

16GB MicroSDHC Card

One thing most Android phones are sorely lacking is internal storage space. Imagine Christmas morning, ripping open your new phone, furiously downloading apps and adding your music library only to run into the dead-end of a phone out of free space.

The good news is the situation can be easily remedied with a large capacity MicroSD card. While there are quite a few to pick from, our favorite budget brand is Dane-Elec (Dane-Elec 16GB from the AAM Store – $39.95). If you’re in the market for something a bit more performance minded, try a speedier class 6 card (Transcend 16 GB from Amazon – $90.99).

Acer Android Netbook

While an Android device does a great bit more than most phones, sometimes you just need a real PC. Enter the Aspire One AOD250 netbook, a sleek little package dual booting to both Windows XP and Google Android. Sure, it’s a bit of a novelty, but what good is a new piece of tech if it doesn’t have a feature you can hang over your friend’s non-Android-having head (Aspire One AOD250 netbook from Amazon – $334.99).

If Android on a netbook is not your cup of tea, don’t fret. There are plenty of solid deals on netbooks to be had this season. The newest Asus Eee PC gets an astounding 10.5 hours batterly life (ASUS 1005HA from Amazon- $329.95) and the Toshiba Mini has three sleep-and-charge USB ports, allowing you to charge your gadgets even when your netbook is powered down (Toshiba NB205 from Amazon – $324.49).

Seidio Innocell Battery

holiday-bg-image-battery-sedio-extendedAll the features that make us love our phones (large touch screen, GPS, accelerometer, etc) come with a drawback: real drain on the battery. Battery issues have plagued some of the first generation phones for some time now and if you are a power user it might be time to step up to an extended life battery.

Seidio’s battery replacements have up to a 50% higher capacity and come with a new snap on back (featuring Seidio’s signature soft touch coating) to house the extra bulk. The extra size and weight is a minor draw back, but you’ll find yourself thankful when you’ve got enough juice left for that extra round of Cow Potato (Seidio Innocell batteries for the G1 or MyTouch from the AAM Store – 54.95 and 59.95).

Golla Pouch carrying case

When pockets just won’t cut it and you refuse to carry a man purse: enter the Golla pouch, a phone-swaddling, card-holding, key-clipping man’s bag.

Each pouch has a large center pocket for your phone, along with a host of support players of smaller pockets, metal d-ring clips, zippers, velcro flaps, etc. With any luck you might be able to condense your wallet contents into the pouch and come out with a pocket to spare.

Golla pouches come in a variety of patterns and colors, all stylish and affordable. (Golla Pouches from the AAM store – $17.95 to $19.95).

Until tomorrow…

Like we said earlier, we’ll be back each day this week with new suggestions for you and those on your lists. Tomorrow we’ll be tackling Android gifts for her (with some help of course from our only resident female). If you’d like to share some gift ideas of your own, please feel free to do so in the comments or in the forums.

I’ve been using the Innocell with my G1 since week 1 and it works great, a must have if you’re going to actually use the phone.

I had one of theirs for my MDA as well, never had any issues.

For him? I would live to have any one of those suggested items, except for the body glove case, but that’s only because I just got a Seidio case I’m very happy with.

I’m letting you know now, if any of the “for her” suggestions are pink or have flowers, I’m going to be VERY disapointed.

Remember guys, not every woman is impressed with diamonds.

Angie does most of our art. She does a lot from scratch and we buy a lot of single assets from GraphicRiver (which she combines into the magic you see above).

I am all about saving money!

So when it came to my boyfriends birthday I wanted to get him something fashionable without breaking the bank…

I don’t know if you have ever heard of Nixon watches ( ), but they have a TON of really great styles for men and women under $100!

    Good luck!
