T-Mobile begins public testing of next CLIQ XT update

I think we have a pattern. After T-Mobile and Motorola suffered some bad PR from previous software updates, it looks like the company has adopted a new policy for rolling out OTA updates. Starting today, T-Mobile began testing a new software update for the CLIQ XT with a limited number of users in order to monitor feedback before a broad release.

Several carriers like Sprint often do internal testing for new software updates, but T-Mobile is the first to offer a public beta for their latest firmwares. T-Mobile is allowing 1000 users who frequent their forums the chance to download a new CLIQ XT update so they can carefully watch the feedback that comes in.

The latest CLIQ XT software is up to version 1.31.44 and the firmware remains at Android 1.5. A future upgrade to Android 2.1 is planned for Q2 2010.

Yeah, I got the update earlier today and it doesn’t have new features or anything, but it’s a welcome update in terms of stability. I just hope that the Cliq XT finally gets rooted.

Ever since the last update for the Cliq, the phone is horrible. One of the things that was supposed to get better (and didn’t need it) was touch sensitivity response. Now it’s laggy, it drifts and sometimes doesn’t work for a few minutes at all. I was under the impression tha this was an ever evolving phone. I’ve had two updates since I’ve gotten this phone, and both have brought the quality of the phone down. I really liked this phone when I got it and I hope it improves, but until it does, I will not recomend this phone to anyone who ask me. In fact I would tell peolple not to purchase it. I, myself, am thinking of getting rid of it. Such a shame that your product is moving backwards instead of evolving like you promised.
