Samsung Galaxy S begins global domination, sell 200K units in South Korea

We still have a few weeks before the Samsung Galaxy S makes its official debut on U.S. service providers, but it looks like Samsung is already excited about the huge success the phone has had in Korea.  Samsung has already sold over 200,000 units of the phone in South Korea alone and since the Android 2.1 equipped device has been on sale in many European countries for nearly a month already, it may be safe to say that the Galaxy S sales has already surpassed the 1 million units threshold.

Though the sales figures aren’t as high as Apple’s 1.7 million units of the iPhone 4 on opening weekend, Samsung is on track overtake the iPhone 3GS which has only sold 800,000 in South Korea in the past eight months.

Samsung is the second largest cell phone manufacturer on the globe, but they have always trailed in the smartphone sector. The Samsung Galaxy S is their ticket to success in 2010 and will definitely go a long way in helping Samsung move up a spot of two in the global smartphone sales ranking.  Once the Galaxy S hits store shelves at all four major carriers in the U.S. and the other 110 nations across the planet, the Galaxy S is surely destined to be the top selling Android handset of the year.

If a country with population of ~50 million is the 2nd biggest phone market, well, that just goes to show you how serious technology plays a part.

200K units in ten days? That’s more than the EVO sold. We’re all whining or hoping that it’ll get Android 2.2 and other updates, but lets face it, Samsung wants to take over the world with this phone.

Each U.S. carrier will most likely sell 1-2 million of these things before the year is out and wiht smaller regional carriers ready to sell the Galaxy S as well, everyone will have the opportunuty to get their handse on a true superphone.
