HTC provides a closer look at the upcoming Desire HD

At first we thought the Desire HD might not make it to our shores, but HTC has confirmed it will be shipping in North America later this year. We already know the Desire HD is HTC’s fastest Android phone, but we haven’t spent much time talking about all the new features packed into the updated Sense UI.

For an idea of what to expect, check out this seven minute video which provides a detailed walkthrough of some of the more exciting features. I’m not ready to give up my stock Android, but HTC definitely has one of the nicer custom UIs.

What is your favorite new feature of Sense UI?

    Wow!! Me likey.
HTC has gone all out and is easily the best manufacturer’s UI out. Touch whiz and Moto Blur have nothing on it.
I WANT this phone. It won’t replace my Nexus One but it’d make a nice addition to it.

Me 3 loving it this phone is mine in just a few weeks lol!! ;)

Sense is trash. There are definitely some interesting things that it adds on to Android, but overall, it just doesn’t reach the level of quality that stock Android provides.

    hey! what? no front camera?

  • Stuardo -StR- Rodríguez

    no front camera?

So does this mean its coming to T-Mobile USA?!?! OMG please. Anyway, yea I’m tired of stock android ALREADY. (I’ve only had my phone for 6months) ready for a good, new, better, updated SENSE.

    • http://Website LuvMyGreenRobot

I was hoping our T-Mobile version would look like this with the front-facing camera, but it looks like it will look like the myTouch Slide with no keyboard and a 3.8″ screen. :(

  • http://Website Eddie Android

Could this be the Mytouch HD for T-Mobile?! If it is goodbye Nexus and forget about the G2

    • Oskar

      I’m Sure Hoping!!!

Seems real gimmicky. Some of those features might require a very specific scenario to work correctly. And if I heard right, navigation is a “premium” feature? Does that = pay?

    • http://Website Kendall

Yah I guess so, unless you want to use google maps navigation…

Sure Google will have a precaching feature built in very soon to counter this lol but am definitely digging the Sense improvements overall.

The mobile tracking could be very handy! Is that free or does anyone know? If Apple aint doing it for free HTC sure cant afford to…

  • http://Website Dork

So which carrier is the desire HD going too? Because I want it

  • Uncemister

Wow two comments already, here we go with more of the no front camera BS…..

    • http://Website none

yeah too bad its already on full-feature-phones and wont be making it to the new king?

looks like this phone will be outdated 3 months after its originally released, to be ‘lil brother to its superior other that WILL have a FFC, and cost $100 more.

  • http://Website Virtue

Now if this was the HTC Glacier and Project Emerald then I would have no regrets. I would snatch this baby up as soon as it came out. Now T-Mobile, gets your hands on this awesome phone and don’t encase it in disgusting high gloss plastic.

    • http://Website Virtue

And by that I mean don’t release it as the myTouch HD without sense. T-Mobile really has a serious problem butchering HTC phones.

Nice tabletphone….. Seems to be cool… Let’s see

  • http://Website matt

uhm, the non-front facing camera is the only reason why i wouldn’t get this.

thats the first thing that came to mind, and that was before reading all of the comments

like why are a few of you complaining about the people that do want it?
if this phone came out in an era, where top-of-the-line phones didnt already have a front facing camera, then it would be understandable. but this phone has an untouchable list of features.. but it lacks something that ‘older’ phones already have? just a bad selling point.

you guys should be showing more support, to show these companies its not something to skimp out on, while trying to make a fullfeature phone.

like stupid samsung with the Galaxy phones, lacking even a f’n flash, let alone FFC.
and still trying to make it the best phone out. horse shit. good thing they are buy one get one free now [tmobile]- basically showing that they made a sh!t ton of them, and technology is progressing faster than vibrant phones can even sell. pathetic.

speaking of lacking features, when do we get a phone with some actual battery life? you guys over there, you know whats up.

    • http://Website matt

?really? you stupid muppets actually down ranked this statement?

why dont we make a GOOD phone a tiny bit BETTER? cause when it lack features that already exsist on other phones, ITS NOTHING SPECIAL HTC. NOTHING SPECIAL AT ALL.

make a new phone that covers EVERYTHING, which is just 3 features shy of this phone, and be the game changer!

      stupid muppets.

LLLOOOLLL!!! I get what you’re saying but everyone don’t want or need a FFC. I for one don’t have a need for it. There are phone on the market with FFC so people who want them can have them. I do believe eventually most smartphone will have FFC but right now it’s a gimmick. My iPhone and EVO friends use it once or twice but don’t have a use for it in their day to day life.

  • http://Website Jonathan

I see no point in getting this phone in the U.S…..especially since we already have the Evo 4G with nearly the sample specs minus the updated processor, plus a front facing camera….I mean lets be real here the Evo is the king of the hill when it comes to android for the moment and of course its gonna get updated to the latest sense experience so why would someone pick this over that…unless u just hate cdma and want a GSM version of the Evo……

    • http://Website Andrew

I’m going to take a long shot and say just maybe because not everyone has Sprint? Lets try to form complete thoughts now. Just because a phone like it’s been released here doesn’t mean everyone can get it….

  • krazytrixxxsta

please let this phone come to tmo… WHO DO I HAVE TO KILL TO GET IT? HTC LET ME KNOW :)

I love vanilla Android but the new HTC Sense features makes me want chocolate. The main feature is I love the for locating your phone, backing up data, and sending and receiving text online when you forget your phone…OMFG! I just brought my Samsung Vibrant and I want this phone now.

I also like the sleek aluminum back, Locations, build-in camera effects and the quick look up feature. HTC is definitely listening to their consumers and delivering quality merchandise.

    • http://Website bhtoque

Quick look-up is already in sense (just long press on any text) though they seem to be hyping it as a new feature

You can get all the tracking/security features of from the WaveSecure app (with subscription) on any phone

There are also several camera replacement apps in the market that give you effects like that and do more too (like use volume buttons as zoom)

This phone is going to be called the new EVO 2…There, I called it!

  • http://Website Jeffrey Dahmer

Basically an evo without ffc, it needs a amoled screen and a track pad
