Samsung to announce Google-experience phone on Nov 8th?

Samsung Mobile just sent out invites to select members of the press to inform them a new Android device will be unveiled on November 8th in New York city. No details were provided on what type of product will be announced, but based on the timing we would have to think this is their new Google-experience phone running stock Gingerbread (Android 2.3).

Google just placed a giant Gingerbread man in their front lawn to signal they had completed the latest Android update and we are expecting an official announcement at any time. We were told this Samsung phone would only be available for testers this year, but the announcement could mean we see a possible holiday launch.

One of my sources from a U.S. carrier confirmed the existence of the device so this tells me Samsung is already shopping it around to their possible launch partners.

We were scheduled to attend Samsung’s press conference earlier this month at CTIA, but it was cancelled at the last moment because whatever they were showing was not ready. To me it sounds like they were waiting on Gingerbread and now that it is complete we can finally see this new phone.

What device do you think Samsung will show off next month? Other sites have suggested the stock ticker in the image above could indicate the Verizon Continuum which features dual-displays.

based on the icons, i wouldn’t think so. Those are not stock android icons(ex. video player)

I wouldn’t be surprised if Google tweaked the icons a little bit for Gingerbread.

But they could be stock gingerbread icons…

Sorry to disappoint but they are Samsung’s proprietary graphics for their own Touchwiz skin. Maybe they used those icons because they own them, and we are reading too much into this, but I don’t think they will release a completely stock phone. I base that solely on their attitude with the Galaxy S issues (and how difficult it makes the updating process if you are not running Touchwiz when you update), so I could be wrong…

I suspect we won’t see a Chrome OS device, since they explicitly call it an Android device :)

Haha thanks for correcting me! updated

I’m reading that the Verizon Continuum’s 2nd screen might be called “the ticker”.

Gingerbread here I come! I can hardly wait.

If they are announcing a samsung google experience phone with gingerbread, and official gingerbread announcement from google should be right around the corner. Cause surely google is not gonna let samsung get the pleasure of announcing gingerbread to the world first!!!

This would be a phone that would cause me to sell my Evo in a heartbeat!

    Maybe it’s the continuum?

  • http://Website jul

hmm Touch Wiz icons make me sad. hopefully thats only for the Continuum. Or maybe they’re skinning Gingerbread only superficially and it can be turned off.

oooh now that I know that those are touch wiz icons this is no fun. They could be announcing the continuum like alex said, the release of galaxy tabs, and froyo on the galaxy s phone. There you have it the full event!!

You know someone said it is samsungs touchwiz but if yall notice some of the icons such as the phone the video player and more importantly the Gmail icon have these very highlighted green areas like they were describing in some of the gingerbread videos and reports that have recently surfaced

Nahh that’s just how the TW icons are. If they can’t even give the galaxy 2.2 I’m never buying another sammy phone so the heck with whatever this is. They can shove it. I love my galaxy but the give no support and throw us bogus source code.

  • http://Website Snake

they need to focus on froyo first really!!!

    • http://Website blkidea

I know what you mean. It sucks that samsung releases phones and doesn’t provide support. They did it with the original behold and with the behold 2 and now they at the very least lagging with the s line. That’s why I’m never buying a samsung phone ever again.

Maybe they are using the touchwiz icons because they own them and they don’t want to give out anything out from gingerbread. Or maybe they just can’t. Legal issues

Make a Galaxy S with Android 2.3, 8 MP camera + Xenon flash + camera button and THAT would be a killer device.

Google needs to get their crap together. I’ve been waiting for Froyo on my Ally since the announcement in August, and they are already releasing another version of Android leaving us to wait probably even longer.

And I really hope they give this phone a great physical keyboard.

    Nvidia Tegra2 dual-core processor
    Android Gingerbread OS

How about stock 2.3 Gingerbread and the Orion? Wouldn’t that make more sense? I’m dying to get a dual Cortex A9 on a smartphone right now.

  • http://Website adam

kat is not google that need to do froyo update is lg that have to tell and put pressure on finishing up the 2.2 os for lg ally update. That why i always trust htc they dont take longer then 3 to 4 months with the updates.
