Permanent root access finally available on the T-Mobile G2

Anyone order a T-Mobile G2 with permanent root?  The Android development community has finally been able to crack the G2 and offer a permanent root solution.  We’ve seen a handful of temporary rooting methods pop up since the launch of the handset, but it’s encouraging to see that development community kept on working after so many failed attempts.

The current rooting method is a bit clunky, but if you’re willing to be among the first to have permanent root access on your G2, you can find step-by-step instructions over on XDA-Developers.  Now that the rooting issue is out of the way, developers should now be able to focus their efforts into enhancing the G2 with new custom ROMs and other Android modifications.

What do you plan on doing with permanent root access on the T-Mobile G2?

Thanks to all the people over at xdadevelopers!

Since it’s been permanently rooted and successfully received an OTA update I think I will finally go ahead and get one.

I wonder if TMO will do an “Apple” and plug the NAND-lock hole in updated firmware on new G-2s?

Pull a Apple? Don’t most Android OEMs/Carriers fix exploits in their software updates? It is after all a security fix in the grand scheme of things.

True! HTC has plugged most the root holes for all their phones with new updates. this exploid will probably be patched with the next OTA update.

If they did something like that, all you have to do is flash the .nbh file and restore it to the factory settings that it was first released with, just like downgrading to RC30 on the G1 to root it.

I’m hoping someone will be porting the Desire Z ROM to the G2. I’ve been craving some HTC Sense for a while now.

YES-need Desire Z HTC Sense-that will be great

DO NOT credit xda-lemmings for this! This root was developed ENTIRELY without ANY involvement from xda…. by “scotty2″ (with help of several others) at #g2root (irc — freenode).

Um…by Scotty2 you mean XDA Username: Damnoragonian, right?

Look, dude. I know haters gon hate, but XDA is a major resource for the entire community, and slagging them just. isn’t. helpful.

You’re right that the live, real-time development took place in #g2root, but XDA is where IntuitiveNipple and Scotty first hooked up, XDA is where the info is getting distributed, and XDA is where the root wars began. Sure, it’s crowded with a bunch of “I can haz r00tz w/o ADB, lulz?1!!!eleventy-one1!” these days, but it’s still THE go-to source for learning what your pocket computer is really capable of.

I will be waiting for all the custom rom’s I’m sure the Desire Z port will be first also Cyanogen should be right around the corner concidering he already loaded 6.1 from the sdcard, plus Enomther who has a active rom from sdcard and many many more will be on its way.
And let’s not forget GINGERBREAD should be at are front door in a few day’s if they release it to the developers Nexus One’s then it should be ported to our G2′s pretty quickly I knew I made the right choice by getting the G2 and not Vibrant or MyTouch 4G to replace my Nexus and all who say that the G2 is not good enough to replace the Nexus are crazy my Nexus overclocked is no match for the G2 with stock rom !!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, uh, guess I’ll be buying a G2 after all.

Unquestionably imagine that that you said. Your favourite reason appeared to be at the internet the easiest factor to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people think about concerns that they plainly don’t recognise about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the top as well as outlined out the whole thing without having side-effects , other people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
