NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 could power nearly 50% of all ARM-based tablets in 2011

By now, we’re pretty sure most of you are expecting 2011 to be the year of the Android tablet.  Google’s already shown off a prototype build of what Motorola has in the works and given us a short glimpse of what Honeycomb will look like on a larger display.  Since most consumers want tablets that perform a little better than their run-of-the-mill Android handset, NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 will soon be the chipset of choice for most manufacturers working on Android tablets.

A new report from Digitimes names Acer, Asus, Toshiba and Samsung as a few of the key players in next year’s tablet battle, all of which will be using the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor.  Due to extremely high demand, the NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset could account for nearly 50% of all ARM-based processors for tablets in 2011.  Based on recent benchmarks, that’s certainly great news for consumers.

Now, we’re just wondering when we’ll be able to stroll into Best Buy and buy one of these tablets without having to take out a second mortgage on our house.

Didn’t someone comment that the Moto tablet that was shown off last week was like 10 grand? I hope that was only because it was a prototype. If Google want Android tablets to be as successful at the iPad, they need to work with manufacturers to keep the prices below $500.

I say $500 is the max they should charge for a 10 inch device and $350-$400 for a 7 inch tablet.

You’re joking right…. of course it was because it was a prototype. It should be in the ipad range, hopefully less..
