T-Mobile tweets official price and release dates for G2x and Sidekick 4G (Updated)

After waking up to the nice sound of morning birds, T-Mobile has decided to treat us with some exciting price and release date information about the T-Mobile G2x, as well as the Sidekick 4G. T-Mobile’s first dual-core phone, the G2x, will be available online as of April 15, and as of April 20 in stores, for the price of $199.99 on a two year contract. Now, if you are wondering about the Sidekick 4G, it will start selling on April 20, the same day that the G2x hits the stores.

Whether you prefer the G2x’s beefy dual-core processor, or the Sidekick 4G’s familiar feeling, it is a choice that you should make responsibly. The specs for both phones are:

Android 2.2
4G Capable
4” Screen / 480×800
1GHz Tegra 2 Processor
512 RAM
8 GB internal memory / microSD up to 32 GB
8 megapixel rear-facing camera
1.3megapixel front-facing camera

Sidekick 4G

Android 2.2
4G Capable
3.5” Screen / 480×800
1 GHz Hummingbird processor
microSD up to 32 GB
3 megapixel rear-facing camera
VGA front-facing camera

Despite the possibility of their deal with AT&T, T-Mobile is still growing strongly. With the improvement of their 4G network announced this week, and the addition of these two Android handsets, T-Mobile is surely not slowing down, nor do they seem to be planning on it.

So there you go guys! Pick your drug! Will you be taking one of these babies home in the next couple weeks? Also, don’t forget to check out T-Mobile’s, and the LG Girl’s, videos regarding these devices, which are right below!

T-Mobile has just given an update on the G2x’s non-contract, full retail price. For $499.99, the price is actually very reasonable compared to the other dual-cores phones out there. Not bad, T-Mobile…

So it’s 8gb internal for the gx, but does it come with a microsd card and if so how big? I know it says it can go up to 32 but doesn’t say what it comes with. Considering that phone when my contract is up in Sept and it’ll be nice to have these 4-5 months to see what reviews are of it.

    • Edgar Cervantes

It is not specified whether it comes with a microSD card or not, so there is a possibility that it might not come with one. We will have to wait and see!

      • Cyberdan3

So if it has 8GB onboard and can be expandable with an SD card up to 32GB, does that mean it will only accept a total of 32GB on the system. I have never seen a 24GB SD card and I would hope they mean expandable by 32GB with SD card making a total of 40GB.

In short, is it 40GB or 32GB MAX?

        • Edgar Cervantes

You will be able to put a 32 GB microSD card on it, with a maximum of 40 GB when you add the on-board memory.

          • Cyberdan3

That is awesome. My iphone 3GS only has 16GB and this will be a huge step up. Where is the best place to get a 32GB card and should it be at least class 4?

        • Edgar Cervantes

You can always find accessories at our Accessories Store, the link is all the way at the top of the page if you want to check it out. I am not sure if the G2x has minimum requirements when it comes to microSD classes, but you should get at least a 4 anyways. If you are goign to do HD recording/playback, I would presonally probably go for a class 6.

          • Cyberdan3

You want us to spend $100 on a class 2 32GB microsd card from your store when you can get them elsewhere for almost half that!! You guys should be giving us a deal for being loyal to your site!! :)

          • Cyberdan3

Where does it specifically say that it comes with one? It says it comes with a microsd card SLOT. Under the “In the box” section, it makes no mention of the card…….

this phone will be obsolete in September.

      • http://Website Bingo

No it wouldn’t didn’t u hear g2x has AT&T 3g frequency as well so it’s really future proof if the deal doesn’t go through which I doubt it would and if it does it’s still good. And AT&T stated that they were planning to use tmobile frequency as 4g lte.

It’s great to see very good choices on tmobile. Looks like there will be shaping up well.

Not preaching the superiority of the Evo anymore? :P I’m pretty excited for this phone, hopefully I’ll be able to get it in August.

      • http://Website panic

It might be better than the original Evo but its definitely not better than the Evo 3D

On the 20th I’m gonna open the T-Mobile store myself and sell it to me, too impatient now that I know the date to wait for the employees to show up!!!!!

Can someone with good reasoning and detail tell me whether the G2X is worth the upgrade from a nexus s

    • Edgar Cervantes

Whether it is worth the upgrade or not, it is up to you. Personally, I would not go through the upgrade if I have a Nexus S. The most important difference between the Nexus S and the G2x is the processor, the G2x’s being a 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor, but the Nexus’ processor is good too.

    • http://Website Tim

Since you just got the nexus s, I probably wouldn’t. The nexus s is a fine phone, although no microsd card slot I don’t like but that’s just preference. I wouldn’t do it unless you are unhappy with your nexus s, because they are both high-end phones.

    • http://Website Bruce

Unless you plan to play 3d games on it, you will not see the difference in processing speed in the daily usage. But if shooting HD video is important to you, you should go for it.

    • Nortisan

Let’s not forget that it’s also 4G, and still Vanilla Android. If you have the money to do it, then I would. However, if you’re too addicted to Gingerbread, then I would maybe wait about a month, to be sure that LG makes good on their promise to update the G2x to Gingerbread a few weeks after launch.

What type of screen does this phone have? Is it just a regular SLCD?

How does it compare to the Super AMOLED on the Nexus S or the rumored screen on the upcoming HTC Pyramid?

I am thinking I may hold off for comparisons to the Pyramid, since a 4.3 inch screen dual-core phone is very enticing…

    • Edgar Cervantes

It is the same phone as the LG Optimus 2x, so it has an IPS LCD display, which is the same technology that the iPhone 4 uses. The screen is good, but a Super AMOLED screen offers much brighter colors, and needs no backlight, since it makes its own light.

      • http://Website Miguel

Really? But the iPhone 4′s screen resolution is 960 x 640.. which is almost twice the resolution in a smaller 3.5 inch screen.

So I am guessing the LG screen isn’t as “clear” as the iPhone screen. The screen is pretty much the only feature I like better on the iPhone.

I’ll have to check it out in-store. The stock Android OS might be too good to pass up. I am not a fan of HTC Sense or any manufacturer UI.

Any suggestions on where I can purchase a 16 GB Micro SD card? It has to be from your own experience please?

    • Edgar Cervantes

We have some at the Android and Me Accessories Store. The link is right at the top where it says “SHOP ACCESSORIES.”

i wasnt aware the chip in the pyramid was old ?

  • http://Website N1 Owner

    Looks like a great phone.
Can’t wait to ditch my N1 which has just horrible call quality.
Will have to wait and see though whether Cyanogen comes through and mods for this phone.

BTW – anybody notice how there was a lot of BS about the atrix when Taylor was waiting for that phone? This phone is probably 10x better (eg no locked bootloader) and yet reporting for it is abysmal. I wonder how much motorola paid …

    • http://Website ayvecs

i had read somewhere that cyanogen tweeted that the lg g2x was going to be his next phone. if it is, then we are certain to get some cyanogenmod love.

      • http://Website ACR

This phone is extremely fast if you haven’t seen those youtube hands on videos.

  • AME

Still no info on the TMo website about the specs on the battery life. Is there any word on the talk/standby time available with this phone?

  • http://android ryster

Is ot for sure about the gx2

  • Suzi

THE ANSWER! It DOES NOT come with memory. Most people have a memory card already but try places like Costco / Sams / Walmart for pretty good deals.
