NVIDIA shows off Shadowgun game headed to Kal-El [Video]

Last week Madfinger Games, makers of the awesome Samurai II: Vengenance, announced they were working on a new title called Shadowgun, which would be one of the first games specifically designed to take advantage of NVIDIA’s upcoming quad-core Kal-El processor (aka Tegra 3).

At the time all we had were a few screenshots, but now we just discovered a short video of a Shadowgun tech demo running on the Tegra 2-powerd Acer Iconia. As you can see in the clip, Shadowgun is an over-the-shoulder shooter (think Gears of War) and it already looks better than any other action game we have seen come to Android.

Ashu Rege, Vice President of Game Content and Technology at NVIDIA, said, “SHADOWGUN shows off the console-quality experience that Tegra is bringing to Android devices. We’re especially excited that Madfinger is creating a special version of SHADOWGUN that’s optimized for multi-core processors and will take advantage of the processing and graphics power of Project Kal-El.”

There is no release date for the game yet, but I expect it should be ready when we see the first Kal-El tablets hit stores in September.

From Madfinger GamesSHADOWGUN puts players into the role of John Slade, a professional bounty hunter in the year 2350. Slade’s mission: hunt down Dr. Edgar Simon, renowned geneticist and former employee of the trans-galactic corporation Toltech Enterprises. Players must lead “shadowgun” John Slade as he infiltrates Dr. Simon’s mountain fortress and fights his personal army of mutants, cyborgs, and genetically-enhanced humanoids. Using state-of-the-art weaponry, ships, and the assistance of S.A.R.A.–Slade’s personal android assistant. The story is written by award winning author Micah Nathan who has joined the MadFinger team as executive creative consultant for SHADOWGUN.

Wow looks great, sure to spice things up between the ipad and android on the game side of things. Looks like it runs well on tegra2 as well!

The truth is..that joke is getting old fast.

When I saw the first screenshot, I automatically thought “Gears of War”. O_o what’s the point of making such good looking games if the majority of android owners can’t use them? They should at least port capable versions to single core devices.

What’s the point of Crysis to come out if it can’t run on most laptops with the highest graphics, right?

      • http://Website Thomaso

Almost every PC can run Crysis. You just have to lower the details. I bought a PC in 2007 which is the realse date of crysis and i run it smoothly on high setting. The PC costed about 1200$ so it wasn’t nothing so special.

i’m glad isnt going to be something stupid like a “tegra 3″ exclusive that would suck.

and with 3.1 right around the corner you could play this with an xbox360 controller EPIC :)

    • http://Website dagamer34

Might as well go play Pong because that’s what it’s gonna look like on a single core CPU.

      • http://Website bobby

I think this is aimed specifically at tablets. That means honeycomb which means at the very least tegra 2.

  • keridel

@hans our friends at xda developers will do just that dont you worry. it may not be super smooth but the last gen single cores will run it i think.

      Let’s hope so.

looks awesome….will the Galaxy Tab 10.1 support HDMI out….would love to hook this up to the big screen…

    • http://Website Hans

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 doesn’t have any ports. :/

    • daveloft

Yes, with the right cable you can connect the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to an HDMI equipped display.

  • DaEXfactoR

I know I read something about HDMI out through micro-USB

this better work on my xoom !!!

I assume it will run on older devices (minimum single core 1GHZ devices) but a lot of the graphic intensive features like Dynamic lighting will be removed. So don’t expect the same quality as Kal-El but it’ll still look amazing

  • http://Website this site is bull shit

You guys recycle news over and over, nothing new here.. And you guys delete comments that you don’t like, no matter what it is. What’s the point of having a comment section if you’re going to delete any comment you want? Engadget doesn’t do that, maybe you guys can learn from them. I expect this comment to be deleted before the 17th post.. lol

    • http://Website Phil

Well… I already read about 4 similar comments on Engadget.

    • Anthony Domanico

We don’t sit around and manage comments.

So if any of your comments were deleted, it was because of IP spam. ;)

For the billionth time: DON’T let people post without logging in. It’s such a simple way to control the amount of spam and trolling.

Yes, I see lot of lightning – reflected off the shitty mirror display.

I’m getting it for sure. Android is becoming as good for gaming as the competition.
Anyway in my opinion the real life changer will be when Onlive gets a plugin running on iOS and Android. Playing full blown console or PC games is going to change everything.

  • Nick

Ok, think I will actually wait for a Kal-El tablet. Should give me enough time to save up. Are there any Google conferences around then…the kind that they would give away tablets?

  • devolute

Like most games of its ilk, this looks absolutely wonderful, visually. Unfortunately, it looks like an uncomfortable nightmare to actually play.

    • http://Website Mark

Now that we can plug in external controllers with honeycomb 3.1, that should not be a problem any more. Let’s just hope they enable support for that..
