Get the Xperia Play, Nexus S, HTC Incredible S, and Atrix 4G for free from Best Buy Canada

Attention dear Canadian readers, you might want to hold off on buying that Android superphone you want so badly. Because this Friday, Best Buy will be selling a handful of Android devices for the lowest price possible: free. The giant retailer will be giving out the following phones with a 3-year contract:

  • Sony Ericsson Xperia Play from Rogers
  • Google Nexus S from TELUS and Fido
  • HTC Incredible S from Bell and SaskTel
  • Motorola Atrix 4G from Bell

That’s one enticing deal, right there. Almost makes me want to move to Canada, almost. Is it me or is it kind of hard to decide which phone to get? I like the Nexus S ’cause it’s a Google phone and has an NFC chip, but then there’s the Atrix 4G with a Tegra 2 chip and a fingerprint reader. Or maybe I’d go with the Xperia Play with all its PlayStation features. Decisions, decisions.

How many of you guys will be taking advantage of this incredible opportunity? If you’re, let us know which device are you going with.

    3 year contract? No thanks.

I’d be more excited about this if it were the Xperia Arc. I have no need of a Playstation phone. Looking to upgrade my Nexus One.

And three-year subsidized cell phone prices in Canada are equal to the 2-year contracts you have in the states. #lucky

Is 3 yr the norm in Canada?
2years before an upgrade is the worst aspect of my life
    I cannot imagine three.

hope they bring the free phones back to the Us in say around 6/22/12

oh hey thats when my upgrade is available so it’d work perfectly

I sign a three year contract to get the first phone cheap than pay full price for the next 1 or 2 phones. Then when three years is up I start all over again with another contract and discounted phone.

I also usually qualify for an upgrade at the 2 year mark, so it’s not really that bad. I need the service anyways and the prices for the service is the same with or without a contract. So refusing to go with the contract is just throwing money away.

I was inches from getting a Nexus S. Not like it’s a huge step up from my Nexus One (other than the sexiness of it).

But of course there’s a catch. There’s a minimum voice and data plan that you need to sign up for. That minimum is $50. That doesn’t seem like much but somehow I got my phone bill wittled down to less than $40 a month, which includes texts, data and voicemail etc. AND no system access fee. Crazy right?

Anyway I decided not to get it. A better phone is going to come along way before my phone dies. Might as well keep going without a X year agreement.
