HTC ChaCha dances its way to AT&T as the HTC Status

HTC’s sociable and rhythmic ChaCha phone is finally finding a partner to dance with. According to BGR, the device could land on AT&T as soon as next week. Thankfully, Ma Bell will dump the ChaCha name for a less fabulous one like the HTC Status.

In case you forgot (which we doubt), HTC’s ChaCha is the company’s answer to that never-ending question: How can I share everything I do with the whole world? Well, you put a dedicated Facebook button right on your phone, that’s how. The ChaCha (as well as the Salsa), has a button on the bottom-right corner of the phone that lets you instantly share anything on Facebook. Want to share a picture of your cat? Press the Facebook button. Want to share that “hilarious” YouTube video of someone getting run over by a truck? Press the Facebook button. You get the idea.

Believe it or not, the HTC ChaCha is not just a Facebook status-posting machine. The device is also an Android phone, and a somewhat decent one, with all the following specs:

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 2.3-inch screen with a 480 x 320 pixel resolution
  • 800 MHz single-core Qualcomm MSM7227 processor
  • 512 MB of RAM and 512 MB of internal storage
  • 5 MP rear-facing camera with LED flash
  • VGA front-facing camera
  • 1250 mAh battery

I have to say, for being a low-end phone aimed at overly social tweens, the HTC ChaCha isn’t that bad. The phone has Gingerbread, which most manufacturers still ignore for their high-end phones. (I’m looking at you Motorola). Plus, it has a front-facing camera. That’s rare for a low-end phone like this. While this phone is certainly not meant for us Android fans, my guess is this phone will actually be quite popular in the Farmville-playing crowd. What do you guys think? Could you ever own a phone that has a dedicated Facebook button?

This device looks familiar, is it a Black Berry?

yeah it looks butt ugly and clumsy. Must be a feckberry.

Screw the button. I would kill for physical keyboard.

Seriously!! I hate the fact that none of the companies make decent phones with keyboards. Buttons that can change whenever they need to be are awesome, but there are some buttons that just always need to be there, (volume, camera, basic four functions, and for the love of god, the ALPHABET.)

I have to agree, the keyboard on this phone does look pretty good, if they only brought it to the EVO 3D

Man! That’s the one phone I really want! Too bad it’s going to the worst network in existence.
