Gingerbread OTA update begins rolling out to G2s everywhere

Continuing the recent trend of handset Gingerbread updates, the HTC G2′s update is heading out over the air starting today.

So just what does the official update to Android 2.3.3 bring to G2 users? New features include:

  • Tell HTC
  • Google Books
  • Notification bar color scheme changed to black
  • New battery indicator, phone and web icons
  • Color-coded network icon and signal indicator added (green when connected to Google servers; grey when not connected)
  • Ability to disable the proximity sensor by pressing the power key while on a call

Bug fixes and other various improvements include:

  • Wi-Fi calling improvements
  • New SMS and email notification improvements
  • Improvements to sending MMS from the Gallery

If you really don’t want to wait for the update to hit your handset, head on over to the T-Mobile forums, download Gingerbread and manually install now. Otherwise, sit patiently and try hitting Menu> Settings> About Phone> System Updates.

This will make a lot very happy… But I’m sure most will ask “why it took so long?”

Just letting you know, the download link on the tmobile link is for the leaked 2.3.3 build, not the OTA being released today

Can anyone tell me what this ‘Tell HTC’ feature is?
Can it tell them to update my Incredible to GB, or to unlock the Thunderbolt? lol

  • Rev. Spaminator

I’m glad it finally happened but I just couldn’t wait so I went with Cyanogen. :)

Has anyone gotten this update yet? (the real OTA and not the leaked one?) Does Netflix still work after the update?

  • ljay

Soo ….. has anyone actually gotten it yet? And how do we know? Do we get a notification or do we keep checking Settings->About Phone -> System Updates frantically? Please email me a reply

As everyone else has said, “ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME!” But seriously, its another device that really deserves it.
