HTC Droid Incredible 2 Gingerbread update available now

It can be painful to see devices released without Android 2.3, but it’s happening. The HTC Droid Incredible 2 was one of those good ol’ Froyo devices, and it seems this smartphone is beating its 4G LTE Verizon comrades in the Gingerbread race. Proud owners of the HTC Droid Incredible 2 will be happy to know they can now snatch their Android 2.3 Gingerbread update! Details about this update showed up last week on Verizon’s support page, so we definitely knew it was coming soon.

If you haven’t downloaded your update file yet, simply go to Settings > Software Update > Check New on your device, and you’ll be prompted to get your brand new 116 MB of Gingerbread goodness. Counting download and update time, Verizon estimates the whole procedure to take from 18-25 minutes, but you can still use your device while the file is downloading. If you want detailed instructions, Verizon has you covered. Download this PDF file, available from the Droid Incredible 2′s support page.

Go check for your new software update, and enjoy the fresh taste of Gingerbread on your Android smartphone. Is everyone satisfied? Finding any issues?

You should probably note that rooted users (and those who wish to root in the future) should not take the update.

I updated early this morning. Went smoothly, no hitches. (I initiated the download by checking for the update) @annieblevins

I hope they corrected the compass North/South reversed issue and icons/app shortcuts not redrawing in folders.

Mine just says “download failed” every time I try. Anyone else having that issue? (i’m not rooted or anything)

installed gb 2.3.3 on my incredible2 and its now crippled… rebooting, cannot receive calls nothing. they are sending me a new phone tomorrow as mine was one day old. Thanks to Verizons great service……

And where exactly is this update for the first Droid Incredible??? As someone who’s owned the first Incredible since launch, this kinda infuriates me. I shouldn’t have to buy a new device to get Gingerbread; it’s called Legacy Support HTC!!

I’m eligible for upgrade though and eager to see how the Droid Bionic is reviewed….

As I posted before the Incredible 2 is the best android device on Verizon REGARDLESS of the lack of LTE. Battery life on the Incredible is the best out of any android device on verizon hands down.

The compass seems fixed Google Maps and Google Sky show North and South correctly now. Shortcuts to apps (installed on the SD card) that are within folders seem to finally redraw after a power up. Will see of that keeps up.

This new update sux, the dialer freezes randomly. I had to factory reset 3 times already coz my stock gmail app keeps saying that I don’t have an account setup when I go to check my mail:( How can u not have a gmail account setup???:( You need it to even begin downloading from the market. And the market force closes randomly. At times when I try to go to the market, it just boots me to home screen:( My love of my HTC incredible just got further deminished… If they don’t fix this issue soon, I’m going to throw this thing out the window and go back to iPhone Anyone know if they’re even coming out with another update within the next millenium??? Saddened customer:(

I have had my phone for about 3 weeks and have had no problems with it at all until recently. Since yesterday (7/24/11) whenever I go on the Market and click on an app that I want to see a message pops up and says, ” Sorry, the application Market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.” and then it shows the force close box. I have no option but to click force close. This is driving me crazy because I have checked on line for solutions to this problem and found nothing. I don’t like the new update, please fix this problem.

My incredible 2 updated new firmware on 7-21 and now every time I turn off phone and cut back on a message appears saying that more than one locations are turned on. Is anyone else having this happening?

    • http://Website Russ

What does that mean: “cut back on”? Just concerned since I am in the process of downloading the newest firmware update…and I have always been told…If it aint broke…dont fix it.

I downloaded the new update on 7/25 on a phone I’ve had for only a week. The typing screen no longer auto rotates…does anyone know how to fix that? The auto rotate feature works elsewhere, just not on the typing screen where I most need it.

  • aldalynne

I updated my Incredible on 7/25. Have had the phone for only a week but notice that the auto rotate now does not work on the typing screen since the update was installed. It still works elsewhere, but I’d like to be able to use it to type. Any suggestions?

I’m considering getting the Incredible 2 but this update concerns me. Are any of you still having problems with the update?

    • chris

yes, lots of problems, the gb 2.3.3 crippled my dinc 2 …..no calls no internet nothing…….

  • Adrian

Every time I go to the Market and try to view an ap, I get sorry, the application market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. This started while I was downloading an ap and deleting another. I’ve tryed deleting the cache, pulling the battery, don’t know where to go next…..
