HTC Sensation, ten other HTC phones get S-OFF thanks to Revolutionary

The development community surrounding the HTC Sensation, EVO 3D and many other HTC devices is about to explode.  The teams from unrevoked and AlphaRev have worked together to release Revolutionary.  While the new tool does not grant root access for the eleven HTC devices it currently supports, it will give S-OFF, allowing you to flash customs ROMs to your devices.

Revolutionary will give you S-OFF either by a patched HBOOT or setting the secureflag to off on the device itself. This behaviour will depending on your particular device. Optionally it will also replace the stock Android recovery with a custom one, which adds many features including “nandroid” backups, the ability to use custom ROMs, and a greater amount of flexibility and customization of your Android phone.Revolutionary

Once you have S-OFF and the custom recovery in place, all you need to do is flash a ZIP file from recovery. You should be all set.  Before you dash off and start downloading and installing things on your computer, I highly suggest you read all the documentation on the main Revolutionary page, as well as the support page on the unrevoked site.

Always been a rom installer. Im even a member of ORD (obbsesive rom disorder) people like thaw guys give us the chance to squeeze everything out of a device.

They should be worshipped as the gods they are.

  • justreboot

I’m going to check out any roms available first. If any spark my interest, I might spend my afternoon unlocking my Sensation. My hopes are that MIUI will be supported on the Sensation soon. Here’s hoping!

The Sensation has a few ROM options available, but now that everyone can get in on the action, we should see things really take off. MIUI on the Sensation will probably not happen for quite some time since it would require the MIUI team to rebuild the thing for the qHD resolution display.

You will most likely have to wait for CM7. That is because a MIUI dev usually just takes a CM7 ROM and adds in the proprietary MIUI framework in place of the open-sourced Android one.

      • ummm… no

Sounds like someone has no clue what they are talking about. The MIUI ROMs have nothing to do with CM whatsoever.

        • Hi

Actually he’s right miui have said them selves their based on cyanogenmod

Are we going to hold out. Please, the second I heard about this I took one last look at my Sensation’s stock rom and it was ON!…or OFF depending how you look at it. The process is remarkably easy, not noob proof, but pretty close to it. I can’t wait for these phone’s true potential to come out. A heartfelt thanks to all of our awesome devs out there.

  • Vineares

Sweet. although i dont have an htc phone but it gives me hope if i get one or feel the need to switch carriers cause i do like the htc sensation.

  • Tran Lang

With S-off on the Sensation, does the phone work on any GSM carrier? Is it permanently unlock? Thanks guys.

    • gogoman

Not 100% sure, but sim unlock is a bit different. Maybe once you flash a new rom you may be able to stick in any sim card you want.

      • Tran Lang

        Thanks, bro.

  • Brixe

Why all of you wants to change your ROM?
I think, HTC Should make a Phone without their ROMs, lolz

  • lifebeyondwalls

Ugh, if I’m reading this correctly the Evo 4g has been left out of the fun :(

I’m one of the unlucky few who got one shipped with GB on it, so I can’t roll back. Guess I’ll just have to cross my fingers and hope HTC unlocks my bootloader sometime this fall…
