SONY Ericsson XPERIA Play price drops to $99 on Verizon

Quality mobile gaming just got a whole lot sweeter.  As part of Verizon’s Back to School promotion, the price of the SONY Ericsson XPERIA Play has been slashed to just $99.  While Verizon may be positioning the new price of the XPERIA Play as a limited time promotion, we have a feeling the phone may never reach its original $199 price point again.  With AT&T expected to launch the XPERIA Play later this year, Verizon’s probably gearing up for a competitive price.

Is the new $99 price tag on the SONY Ericsson XPERIA Play enticing enough for you to make the purchase? Or does SONY need to beef up their offerings in the PlayStation Suite before the XPERIA Play starts flying off store shelves?

And by “$99″, you Americans mean “on a stupid expensive contract”, right? I wish you’d stop reporting phone prices like this.

My husband really loved the idea of this phone, but it’s at Verizon so he’ll skip it. I think even if it did move to Sprint though, it just doesn’t hold up in comparison to the other android offerings.

People need to remember that the XPERIA Play isn’t directly competing with phones like the EVO 3D or the SGSII. SONY is trying to carve out a new niche within the Android ecosystem. I’m loving my Play. The phone works just fine but the gaming on this thign is amazing with the dedicated buttons. All those FPS games from Gameloft are ten times better than they were on my original Galaxy S.

Not many games currently available now, I don’t think.

Get Vita’d in the coming months. You get new games all the time and not run on old, obsolete hardware.
