EVO 3D update brings ability to unlock bootloader

Modders rejoice!

Just days after the release of the unlock tool for the European Sensation, HTC has announced via it’s Facebook page that the latest OTA firmware update for the EVO 3D will allow users to utilize HTC’s unlock tool to unlock your bootloader. In order to unlock your bootloader, you will need to be on the latest software version (2.08.651.2). If you’re on any other software version, be sure to update by going to Settings –> System Updates –> Firmware Update.

Once you have the latest update, head over to HTC’s Dev website¬†and follow the instructions there to unlock the bootloader on your EVO 3D. Do so at your own discretion, however, as unlocking your bootloader will void all or parts of your warranty.

If you do decide to unlock your device via HTCDev, let us know how the process went for you by leaving a comment below.

All signs point to that. I assume we’ll hear in the next day or two, if not a few hours. ;)

Not That I would.. I plan to keep my Sensation stock to preserve resale value to sell it in favor of the new Nexus

        • Interpol91

That’s what I plan on doing. I love rooting!!!

i got the update and I am hella happy with it.. phone has no lag now!

Wow, they are really detemined to KILL the warranties of anyone doing unlocking. Why would they do that unless you actually brick your device by flashing a ROM? I mean, if the screen dies or the volume buttons stick, etc, that’s NOTHING to do with being unlocked… but they just seem to enjoy voiding warranties… Another reason to NEVER buy an HTC device…

      You’ve obviously never rooted..

I am agree with you. HTC is garbage i have a HTC EVO 3D x515m who i unlock and try to get it in S-OFF mode but it was not possible. then i root and boot the phone up again and flash RCMIX kernel into it and everything was okay but after the first reboot the phone only reboot all the time. so and the HTC repair shop did not make to repair it so now they have send the phone to the HTC factory for repair and i will get a price for pay for the repair later on.

But enyway it must be up to the owner of the phone when hi or she have paid for the phone to not get controled by the HTC and Google i also lost many sms text message and also e-mails on my phone because some shitt head from HTC or Google was into the phone and delete it. because they can go into the phone even your phone is turned off. when you have the S-ON in the phone.

So when i get my phone back from the factory i will use a new programming to get this and if that not working and the phone go broken again i will make a movie there i burn and smash the phone with a sledgehammer and put the movie out on youtube and say to everybody dont buy HTC android phones. buy something you can use not a device the HTC and Google playing with you on.
And thats it about the HTC garbage. but ofcause everybody know that the US are so impudence when it come to everything that is a big shame.
So HTC can go to hell and longer.

They were a little late, but better than never. But I have had s-off since July 29th so this is not interesting to me!! But at least they kept there word. I want CM7 damnit!

Yeah, I took a long time writing this because I went into S-On vs. S-Off, and went into Revolution’s tool and all that, but it just didn’t read write and was overly-techie-geek, so I went with this instead. haha

Just knowing this update WILL ALLOW THIS ACTION IS VERY SWEET. This further shows the commitment HTC has to the android community in general as well as all there trusted customers. I’m definitely proud of HTC but i will HOLD OFF on rooting for now i want to get use to how the device works since this last update which is such a big difference in so many ways. Plus i will wait till ICE CREAM SANDWICH UPDATE then I will root ice cream will be optimized for dualcore and quadcore devices I can only imagine the things I will be able to do then. Mean time I am extremely happy stock this is the FASTEST DEVICE ON THE MARKET..

    • squiddy20

Yeah, you’ve been saying for several months that you are “looking into” rooting and that you will “hold off” till something better. I expect nothing less from a nonsensical nobody like you.

  • Rashad

I wonder if any ROMs will make good use of the 3D capabilities, there is a lot of potential here!

    • DROID Sam

HTC Dev has basically give developers the tools they need to take advantage of the 3D technology on this phone. It’s up to developers to do their homework and get some app out there.

Well I have already had my phone rooted for a few weeks now. I use a rom that gives me over 1700 when I run Quadrant. There are other ways to make it higher but I’m not really worried about all that. I have root and I am happy.
