Droid RAZR and XOOM 2 pose for the camera, specs revealed

As we count down to Q4, more devices are beginning to leak in order to build up some buzz for the important holiday shopping season. This weekend two of Motorola’s highly anticipated devices happened to leak out at the same time. Read on for the latest details about the Droid RAZR and XOOM 2.

Motorola Droid RAZR (Spyder or Droid HD)

Droid RAZR could be the thinnest LTE phone.

First up we have another appearance of the Droid RAZR uncovered by Niley Patel of This is my Next. Niley reports the phone had the codename Spyder and was also referred to as the Droid HD. We have already seen the phone several times, but now we have a better idea of the final hardware specs.

Rumored specs of the Droid RAZR include:

  • 4.3-inch 960 x 540 qHD Super AMOLED display
  • Unspecified dual-core 1.2 GHz processor
  • 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording and image stabilization
  • “HD” front-facing camera
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • Gorilla Glass and a Kevlar casing with a splash-guard coating
  • Webtop support and Lapdock accessories
  • 4G LTE

Overall it looks like this phone is shaping up to be the older brother of the recently launched Droid Bionic. We have another 4G LTE phone with a large display and dual-core processor. However, the RAZR will top the Bionic with the first qHD Super AMOLED display and a faster 1.2 GHz processor.

Given the specs of this phone, we would expect it to land on Verizon in time for the holiday shopping season. The timing is odd because Verizon just launched the Motorola Droid Bionic, so we might be waiting awhile as they stretch out the release dates.

Motorola XOOM 2 (MZ617)

Next up we have the first pictures of the XOOM 2 in the wild, thanks to Kellen of Droid Life. He was able to gather some basic specs from observing the pictures, but then Sean Hollister of This is my Next was able to uncover a more complete list.

Rumored specs of the XOOM 2 include:

  • 10.10-inch display
  • Unspecified dual-core 1.2 GHz processor
  • 1 GB of “faster” RAM
  • Rear camera with 1080p video record, front camera
  • Eleven hours of battery life compared to the original model’s ten
  • 9mm thick
  • Optional keyboard case and stylus pen
  • Built-in IR blaster for home automation
  • HDMI and micro USB port
  • First tablet to ship with Adobe Flash Player 11
  • SIM card slot (LTE is assumed)

For me the most surprising spec is the dual-core 1.2 GHz processor. Motorola was the first to launch a dual-core Tegra 2 tablet early this year, and there were rumors they might also be the first with a quad-core tablet.

Competing devices like the ASUS Transformer 2 are supposed to start appearing next month with NVIDIA’s Kal-El processor, so Motorola might be forced to lower the price of the XOOM 2 and target the mid-tier market.

The first ASUS Transformer was priced at hundreds less than the original Motorola XOOM, and it went on to become one of the best selling Honeycomb tablets. If ASUS can offer a Transformer 2 tablet with 2-3x the performance and better battery life than the XOOM 2, then Motorola will be in trouble again for their second tablet attempt.

If you are a Verizon customer, will either of these Motorola devices be on your wish list this Christmas?

Even tho I have no interest switching to Verizon glad to see they are keeping the sleek look of the Razr

      Bah, it looks really fugly.
The new iPhone will look so much more slick, thinner and overall better.
But when money is tight, you have to go with this. Otherwise, get the superior iPhone 4 or even iPhone 5 next month.
The RAZR really looks like a bumphone.

      • Les

“when money is tight”?? this will actually be the same if not more than the iphone 5!

I was helping a colleague do something on her iphone 4 the other day and I was surprised at how painful it felt using a smaller screen after a using a DX. Amazing how much difference .8″ can make to your overall experience. The other thing that struck me was how dumbed-down ios felt after year of customizing on android.

To each her own Andrea. Personally I wouldn’t go back to the iphone if they were free.

      • NotRelevent

Nothing superior about about outdated crap such as the iShit.

These ijunk fans pretty much sum up how lame apple products really are!!

        Go away whore troll.

        agree 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Les

FFS, the isheep trolls are out and about…

          Folks, iphones are so booooring!!!!!!!!!!!

They are so common and they all look the bloody same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking at that same god awful (too small) home screen four long years–Bah Bah

When I see someone using an iphone I know I am looking at an original thinker.

Ah, but they are the perfect phone for tweeners!

          • ihatefanboys

I always say iphones are for the idiots of society, because people look at an android phone and call it a “power user phone” or a “techie phone” when its not that complicated at all, and easier to maintain than an ipod or and iphone….if my G2 freezes(which almost never happens) i just pop out the battery and reboot the phone…..when an iphone freezes, you have to find an apple store so a “qualified apple tech” can fix it for you “correctly” for a fee. In my opinion, if im gonna pay $400 for a phone, i should be allowed to do what i want with it. If i wanna take a big dump right on the screen i should be able to. I shouldnt have to pay to get it washed or something. But as i said iphones are for idiots that feel its perfectly reasonable that they shouldnt be able to do all that.

        • ZRod

You don’t even know the iPhone 5 it looks like or its specs.
These specs are superior to the iPhone 4 at the same price probably.
You deserve the iPhone if you can’t even spell dumb. Dumbass.

          • ihatefanboys

the iphone 5 will probably look just like the iphone 4, just like the iphone 4 basically looks exactly as the iphone 3gs. The new things are all android inspired anyways. guaranteed all the iclowns will run out and buy it. Everytime a new apple product appears its like “black Friday”, and we all know what kind of people go running for that, trampling poor people to death……poor, ignorant fools, thats who.

      • ihatefanboys

lol, sorry you lost me at “superior” As for whats “fugly” thats prob what all men call you. So do yourself a favor and get a RAZR and shave those hairy beast legs, you bum.

  • T1392

I’ll be waiting for the Droid Razr while I play with my BIONIC, & hopefully Nexus 3. ;)

  • Mark

The Droid RAZR is actually pretty interesting. I’ll be keeping an eye on it.

  • James

I wonder what the battery life will be on this phone? The specs look decent…if the phone were released today. I am not sure this will match up to the expected Q4 phones like the Droid prime.

  • Dirge

qHD with Super Amoled? I thought Super Amoled was Samsung’s property. Plus, wasn’t Super Amoled using PenTile to begin with?

    • Slith

I am confused on the screen specs as well.

    • nory

As far as I am aware, the first amoled display used pentile, but not the super amoled. Either way, super amoled qhd sounds awesome, too bad I’m on T-Mobile lol

    • Ihater :P

Samsung is mass producing the Super Amoled screens now so that all brands can use them.

    • ihatefanboys

i could be mistaken but didnt samsung make displays for apple as well ? well not anymore i suppose after all these lawsuits over patents…so its not out of the range of possibility.

  • Slith

If the Xoom 2 isn’t Kal-El, Asus will have the Android tablet of the year. I bet Asus will price the Transformer 2 with Kal-El at the same point as the Xoom 2 with a dual core.

The menu softkey doesnt look like th ones on all the blur phones. it looks like to OG droid menu softkey. Hint for Stock Android?

  • AME

I think Verizon customers on this site have their eyes laser tracking the Nexus phone, but for the less obsessed, that RAZR looks good!

What does “faster” RAM mean when you mentioned it in the specs for the XOOM2? Is it an innovation we haven’t seen before?

  • Motorola Android Indonesia

Motorola Droid Razr rumour says will have 7 mm thin. That’s mean will be the thinnest smartphone in the world. At the moment the thinnest smartphone is NEC Medias; not iPhone 4 so thick.

    • Dirge

Considering the Motorola RAZR was super thin to begin with, they could probably make it happen.

      • Motorola Android Indonesia

Once more Motorola make history to make standard slim smartphone; thats why Motorola called Motorola SlimLine Series.

  • SliestDragon

The RAZR actually looks really cool. Too bad I don’t know anyone on Verizon. Would definitely recommend that.

  • Zhi Hao

I guess that the processor will either be a Tegra 2 @ 1.2Ghz like the LG Q2 or an OMAP 4430 at 1.2Ghz. But with the new Galaxy Tabs packing 1.4Ghz Exynos processors en route, things look bleak for Motorola’s camp…

  • Motorola Android Indonesia

Dont just look in the paper. Samsung Galaxy S2 is look great in the paper than Motorola Atrix 4G. But in reality; my Samsung Galaxy S2 have so many crashes and freeze than my Motorola Atrix 4G. My Motorola Atrix 4G never crashes and freeze. Just idiot and stupid Germany Judges says Samsung Galaxy S2 much powerful than Motorola Atrix 4G.

  • Sarah Palin (the republican hood rat)

the perfect phone for hood rats!

    • RockinEvo

Lol perfect hood rat phone and how would you know what those phones look like did you just come up from rag to riches lol.

dissapointed in the xoom 2.. wow

  • cb2000a

Moto has slipped behind the curve on mobile tech. By the time this is released we will have dual 1.5ghz phones with 720 screens from HTC and Sammy.

  • Alex Nguyen

The main thing that has me excited about the RAZR is the supposedly kevlar encasement…that’s just sick! More thoughts on the RAZR here:

  • a$$

  • SparkyXI

Looks like moto is putting the RAZR name on something in order to keep their right to its patent. Gonna be a sweet phone, no doubt, but it’s just “the next smartphone”.

  • ihatefanboys

Glad to see moto making quality phones and tabs, especially since theyre with google now. im hoping soon for any word from HTC on the next phone in the G series for t-mobile. Hopefully the G3 will put everything that came before it to shame, just like the G2.

    • ihatefanboys

wow, downvoted ?either HTC or tmobile haters around. its fact that the G series phones are better than any others when theyre released….and the same will be the case with the G3…if youre gonna downvote someone, at least leave a comment.

  • jay

well so far i have converted 6 iphony user to android devices and they have been happy so far with their choice. as far as the razor im hoping verizon hold up and releases the phone with a quad core instead of dual.

  • Roger

My New Every Two is available in December. Would love to get the Droid Razr as my update, but if not out yet I will get the Bionic.
