ASUS Transformer Prime up for preorder…for real this time

Yes, this post will give you a feeling of deja vu. On Friday, we reported that the first Tegra 3 Android tablet, the ASUS Transformer Prime, had gone up for preorder on Amazon. Within minutes after posting that article, it appears the folks at Amazon realized they jumped the gun on pushing the page live, and quickly took down the preorder page.

We knew it was only a matter of time before the page was pushed live again, and the page has gone back up for a little pre-Black Friday action.  All four varieties of the ASUS Transformer Prime are now up for pre-order on Amazon’s site, starting at the $492.20 price we told you about on Friday (for the 32GB models).

The Transformer Prime features:

  • Quad-Core Tegra 3 Processor
  • Additional 5th core (which we’ve lovingly called “Ninjacore”) to reduce power consumption when 2 or 4 cores are not needed
  • 10.1″ IPS+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass and 178 degree viewing angle
  • 1 GB RAM (LP DDR2)
  • 8 megapixel auto-focus rear camera with 1080P video capture and large F2.4 aperature
  • 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera for video conferencing
  • 12 hours of battery life, up to 18 hours when paired with the keyboard dock
  • 2 color schemes: Amethyst Gray and Champagne Gold
  • 2 storage options: 32GB and 64GB ($499 and $599 price points) with expandable storage via microSD
  • 8.3 millimeters thick, weighs in at 1.29 lbs.

The Transformer Prime will be the most beastly spec’ed Android tablet of 2011 when it launches in a few short weeks, making it the must-have tablet for the hardcore Android user. What are you waiting for? Head over to Amazon and put in a pre-order on this bad boy.

I think I will be pre-ordering this soon

  • jckeyes

I’ll put in my preorder as soon as I make an extremely important decision…. what color do I get??

    • Anthony Domanico

haha. I think the Champagne looks a little classier, but that’s just me.

    • akareem89

      the champagne!!

      • Brent A

“coulda been the champagne, the champagne, or it coulda been the cocaine, the cocaine” ??

lol, couldnt resist the cheese, sorry.

    • Perry Ahern

I’m stuck there too – if the Amethyst Gray was a little less purple I’d go for that but I think it’ll be the Champagne for me.

  • Droid Dewd

I got the TF at the end of September and have been happy to have it as opposed to having to wait what would have been nearly 3 months for this. The TF Prime looks very nice but the original TF is good enough for me. Maybe I’ll be in line for the 3rd version in the next 18 months when that one comes out if Asus keeps going with them.

Anyone feel like the $100 for double storage is definitely worth/not worth it?

I’m kinda on the fence… I don’t really store that much shit on my current tablet (which I’m giving to my aunt and uncle) so I wonder if I really need the extra space. I’m leaning towards… yes.

    • stenzor

You can always get a 32gb micro sd card for ~$50-60 if you know where to look

      • pekosROB

oh yeah I know, I have one in my Droid3 that never gets accessed… lol I haven’t even used up the space on the internal microsd card it came with since I stream everything.

      • Droid Dewd

Lucky aunt and uncle to get the tablet from you. Wish I had some nice nephews that would do that for me. :O) I agee that you could probably find a 32 GB SD card for cheaper than 100 bucks.

    • Anthony Domanico

I have the 16GB OG Transformer, and don’t come close to filling it. Then again, all of my music and documents are in the cloud. :)

      • pekosROB

Seems to be the trend! Then again since the TP is wi-fi I might want to be able to store some photos from my DSLR or music when not around an internet connection…

BTW the “reply” button in the email keeps telling me “Sorry, Page not Found” when I click on it to reply…

        • Anthony Domanico

Thanks for the tip. I’ll have to bug Clark about it.

          • stenzor

Tell Clark to send me one of these ;)

          • pekosROB

Thanks! And tell everyone to have a great Thanksgiving… but to give us updates if anything juicy comes along! I’ll forgive the lack of posts if we get at least ONE good tip during the holiday time. :-)

          • Anthony Domanico

Rob… We’ll continue to monitor the Android happenings, though we don’t think there will be many.

Either that or we’ll get trampled to death trying to score some deals at Best Buy.

      • Droid Dewd

Cant believe this tab is already getting called OG LOL

  • pekosROB

So I just went to the Amazon site on my phone since Amazon is blocked at work (weaksauce, I know) and tried pre-ordering but it said “sold out” already. When I clicked on the 1-click buy it when available thing I didn’t get a confirmation email and it doesn’t show up in my order history on my account.

Does anyone know if it’s supposed to notify you after or show up if it’s an item that’s out of stock? I don’t recall having done that before on any products… I must have my Transformer Prime as soon as it’s available!

  • ranwanimator

    You’re excited? Feel these nipples!

    • pekosROB

      hahahahah +1 +1 +1 +1

  • ranwanimator

I don’t see anything on the pre-order site about GPS? Does the Trans Prime have it or not?

  • Josh McAllister

My preorder never got cancelled. Still in my cart since the 18th. I’m so excited! It’ll be my christmas present to myself!

    • Anthony Domanico

Yeah, I went back and checked that original link and it worked fine. Your order should be just fine.

  • Nathan

Going to get it, no matter what but it’s going to take some time though

  • Techrocket9

Do we know when it is expected to ship?

    • Anthony Domanico

Not officially, though we’re leaning toward early December.

    • stenzor

Canadian Amazon says: “This item will be released on December 16, 2011″

      • Anthony Domanico

Weve also heard the 5th, who knows at this point.

  • Nate B.

tempting but I’ll wait to see the rest in 2012

    • Brent A

Me too, I’m totally holding out for a 9 core, 42 inch tablet that folds up and fits in my pocket, but im nervous to purchase such a tablet just in case the 50 inch, 12 core comes out shortly after it.

      /sarcasm off

every piece of tech you’re going to ever purchase is going to be bested or outdated within weeks of release. #SadTruth

  • bruce080

    Amethyst Gray or Champagne Gold?

    • Anthony Domanico

      My vote is Champagne Gold.

      • bruce080

Yeah, I’ve been leaning towards that as well. Are you going to get the 32GB or the 64GB? It’s hard for me to turn down space, but I might go with the smaller of the two. I know I wouldn’t be able to use 64GB on a phone, but a tablet would be different.

        Any thoughts?

        • Brent A

personally, I’ll opt for the smaller, and utilize a big SD card and cloud storage space, then allocate the extra 100 bucks toward the dock. If it were just a keyboard, I’d say screw it all together, but the extra battery inside makes it 100% worth it, even if you never peck a key on the keyboard.

        • M3rc Nate

The general consensus here seems to be to get the 32Gb and just buy a 32Gb Micro SD card. I personally in preparation for the T-Prime jumped on a newegg sale that had a Sandisck micro SD 32gb for $30.

  • charliethesuperturtle

    i like this!

  • pekosROB

That’s why I’m giving my Xoom as a gift to my aunt and uncle and buying a Transformer Prime for myself!

  • pekosROB

Does anyone know if ICS will have the same USB hosting capabilities as Honeycomb? I just want to make sure the tablets will still be able to pull files off of computers and what not…

  • mikeluongo15

Best thinest tab out there so far. But when will get it the ICS update?

    • Anthony Domanico

almost immediately after launch. Before the end of the year, and if this does indeed come out on 12/16, that’s only 15 days left in the year. ha

  • buxtahuda

I don’t see the dock. Can someone provide a link to the dock as well, all I can find are TF101 docks.

    • bruce080

Yeah, I couldn’t find it either. Perhaps it isn’t listed yet.

      • Anthony Domanico

        It isn’t listed yet.

  • Robbie

Best Buy Silver Gold Key Pad is up for pre order just type in TF201 or SKU 4222113

  • Vance

    Pre-order: check. 64GB Amethyst gray.
My question is… I had it ship to my parents house in Utah, where we’ll be for Christmas. We get in 12/24 and come back to Alaska 01/06. If I don’t have it by then, and have to come back to dark, froze Alaska, empty handed, there’s a good chance I’ll be suicidal. Of course, I still have my ASUS TF101 to keep me sane while we wait for big brother to arrive. :)

    • Anthony Domanico

itll be there by the 24th, especially if you have amazon prime

  • Paul

Already ordered one through unfortunately they don’t offer teh 64gb version and only have the 32gb in grey. Was told they might get the 64 version but couldn’t guarantee anything. Hopefully they will get it and I can change my order befor it ships out. Arrival date should be befor x-mas. Can’t wait to get my hands on this baby as I just returned the samsung galaxy 10.1 32gb. Best part of it all is that the ASUS 32gb is cheaper than the 32gb Samsung….

  • Jon T

This has EVERYTHING. I also would like to note, something that is very important that is not mentioned enough. ASUS (like MSI), are one of the very, very few that do their own manufacturing.
Other companies off-shore the making of all of their hardware to ODMs (Original Design Manufacturer). Usually the cheapest ones that they can find in Mainland China.
companies like Apple , DELL, HP, Compaq, Toshiba, Acer, Sony have everything made offshore and the ODM’s do everything including putting the large companies label on their Iphone, Tabs and computers, then ship them to the U.S. to be distributed.
These companies put a lot of pressure on the ODM’s to make their hardware cheaper and cheaper, thus the hardware is pretty crappy and the consumer has little in the way of choice.

I hope that I don’t have to have a cell phone on this and that I can get this WiFi only.

    • cheeseasaurus

It is a wifi only device.

But that does make me curious how a carrier subsidized Transformer Prime would be priced… not that I’d buy a carrier subsidized tablet though…

  • ndub21

Oh man, once this comes out I’m going to feel like my Galaxy Tab 10.1 is outdated! At least it’s still the coolest tablet on the block, for now…

  • priority9

Finally decided to drop the hammer. Pre ordered the 32gb version in Amethyst Gray.
Tegra 3 and ICS best combo ever.

    • Debbie

where did you pre order it from?

      • pekosROB

B&H Photo! no sales tax and 2-day shipping was around $11.

  • jst4tim

This is on my gift list.

  • thechad

I am telling everyone I know that was planning on getting me gift this year to pool their money and get me one of these.

  • MJM128

This is my most anticipated device of the year! Tegra 3, and this bad boy is sleak.

  • aaroncoffman3

wow this thing is crazy intense. wish santa could sneak one or two of these early for me!
