ASUS Transformer Prime up for preorder on Amazon (Update: Page Down)

Update: And just like that the page has been taken down. Nevertheless, we feel Amazon is prepping to start taking pre-orders for the Transformer Prime, and those should start any day now. We will, of course, bring you the goods as soon as they come back up. Stay tuned!

We’ve just received a tip that the hottest Android tablet of 2011, the ASUS Transformer Prime, was made available for preorder on Amazon. As per Amazon’s modus operandi, they are offering a slight discount on the Transformer Prime. Preordering through Amazon will get you the 32GB version of the tablet for $492.20, a 2% discount (more if you consider they don’t charge sales tax in several states).

In case you’ve forgotten the Prime’s specs by now, they are as follows:

  • Quad-Core Tegra 3 Processor
  • Additional 5th core (which we’ve lovingly called “Ninjacore”) to reduce power consumption when 2 or 4 cores are not needed
  • 10.1″ IPS+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass and 178 degree viewing angle
  • 1 GB RAM (LP DDR2)
  • 8 megapixel auto-focus rear camera with 1080P video capture and large F2.4 aperature
  • 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera for video conferencing
  • 12 hours of battery life, up to 18 hours when paired with the keyboard dock
  • 2 color schemes: Amethyst Gray and Champagne Gold
  • 2 storage options: 32GB and 64GB ($499 and $599 price points) with expandable storage via microSD
  • 8.3 millimeters thick, weighs in at 1.29 lbs.

The first Tegra 3 quad-core Android tablet is near the top of our Holiday Wish List here at Android and Me, and we think it should be on yours as well. Amazon’s site doesn’t list an estimated arrival date, though we know the Prime is arriving sometime in early December.

Who out there is planning on picking up one of these bad boys? Will you be preordering it today?

Thanks, Topher!

Wishlisted.. if my wife doesn’t get it for me for Christmas (provided it comes out before then), I’ll get it myself. :)

  • Droidweb

The pre-order link lists the tablet as running “Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit 1.66 GHz AMD A110″.

I think that is just a misfire on Amazon’s part as everything else matches up properly. Fortunately it’s fulfillment by Amazon so even if it would turn out to be wrong somehow they’ll have you covered.

  • jp2014

That doesn’t look right… Specs says windows 7.

Totally going to get the Transformer Prime when it comes out. This thing is a beast!

Anyone know how much the keyboard doc is going to cost?

“more if you consider they don’t charge sales tax”

Amazon charges sales tax for many states, depending on who the actual seller is. If the seller is Amazon itself, they charge sales tax for a handful of states.

    Ordering NEEEOW! Thanks androidANDme!

  • WarDrake

  • AsakuraZero

i just preordered mine, selling the Transformer and waiting for PRIME!.

also the windows thingy must be a typo

The link is down… did they take it out? What happened if we pre-ordered it already? WTF

Does ANYONE know how shipping works on Amazon? Will it matter if I choose 1 day shipping or free shipping? I know when I order stuff (like CD’s and Games) from Best Buy, BEFORE they released, I get them in the mail a day early every time. Will it matter which shipping option I choose? Or will it be at my door on release day, even if I choose the free shipping option?

    • AsakuraZero

no, 1 day shipping is 1 day shipping unless is stated taht they will give “same day release shipping” (as seen on lots of famous video games)

free shipping is the crappot = 3 to 7 days iirc, i just went prime and got 1 day shippings for 4 bucks

      • Josh McAllister

haha. I just used my free month of prime. I don’t think you can get another free month. So i’ll just have to live with the free shipping option as 492 dollars is already a lot! The link is down (like androidandme posted) but I haven’t gotten an email saying my order was cancelled! :-)
I wanted the first transformer so bad, but 399 was to high for me at the time. I’m VERY glad I waited!

Is it just me or did the link quit working?

  • metafor

I so want to buy one of these but I fear that the screen resolution will very quickly be outshadowed by the 1920×1200 displays we’ve been hearing about. Everything else about this tablet looks perfect.

I know what I am asking Santa for Christmas!

  • Nate B.

With the keyboard it almost looks like the ux31 Zenbook.

  • WarDrake

the link has been down for over an hour now, and my order is still there, so i guess they will bring it back at some point.

  • Sal

I’ll be ordering this as soon as it’s available. I want to learn to program both in Android and with Tegra :)

I think the problem is the preorder was from one of Amazon’s Marketplace partners, and Amazon pulled it at the request of ASUS as they want to make sure it goes out to everyone at the same time. Have been kind of expecting this to happen as with all the interest you could put up a preorder link for even more than retail, and probably make a few dollars.
