Verizon announces white Droid RAZR in stores tomorrow, silent on Galaxy Nexus

Here’s some disappointing news for the masses that are waiting on Verizon’s version of the Galaxy Nexus. Today Verizon took the time to issue a special press release to announce that the already available Droid RAZR will be coming in a new color variant tomorrow, but they failed to mention their most highly anticipated phone of the year: the Galaxy Nexus.

Pretty much everyone thinks that the Galaxy Nexus is (was?) going to be available tomorrrow, December 15, but then again those same folks (including us) were convinced it would arrive December 9 and that never happened.

We took the time to call several Verizon Wireless stores in the area, and they were all mum about the Galaxy Nexus release date. It seems they have been fielding quite a few calls about the device, because they instantly knew what I was talking about. The official word coming from Verizon stores is that corporate has still not sent them a release date and they don’t expect it to go on sale tomorrow.

Rumored launch dates so far have included Nov. 3, Nov. 10, Nov. 13, Nov. 17Nov 21,Nov. 27, Nov. 29, Dec. 8Dec. 9, Dec. 13, Dec. 15, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.

At this point, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus launch is becoming quite comical. It wouldn’t surprise me if the phone gets pushed back to early next year. Like many of you out there, I really want to buy this phone, so please prove me wrong Verizon.

Update: For what it’s worth, we have received several emails from our readers that said their local Verizon stores are still gearing up for a December 15 launch. Still nothing official from Verizon PR though.

    This. Is. Getting. RIDICULOUS!

Just announce it or something already Verizon!

    • faun

Agreed. Even if they just said; “Sorry for the delays, this is the reason why it’s not out yet…” Hell, they don’t even need to provide an ETA, *any* communication would probably be a PR win for them right now!

      • poosh2010

I honestly think they haven’t announced it yet because seriously….if people knew such a beast of a phone was about to be released, absolutely no one would buy the Razr. Therefore, keeping the customers in the dark translates into more phones being sold until the galaxy nexus is FINALLY ready.

        • mr 1338

If only Motorola were faster with their updates (or give any updates at all) this phone would be in my hands right now <3

    • Panatella

Im not really sure what they are trying to pull here. Getting all “silent night” on eager buy-happy customers is an outrage! I’m really hoping for a worldwide-all-carrier-release before the holidays, so we can all find a little Google-love under our trees!

    • pikahatonjon

lol. now verizon is just bullying us.

  • keridel

i would say it’s perfectly clear that verizon are purposely trying to damage the nexus brand.

    • BiGMERF

i was in the store yesterday trying there accessories on my gsm.. manager told me the 15th for sure… could be ful of it but ya never know. either which way.. absolute terrible launch job..

  • zyphbear

Verizon, do you REALLY just not want to take our money and some people switching carriers to you, like I would be?

  • jaxidian

I bet they rebadge the device as the Bionic 2 simply because of the delays…

  • jaxidian

I also think there is 0 chance that Google will ever allow Verizon to have an exclusive on a Nexus ever again!

    • keridel

in verizon defense (not that i think they deserve defending) but the nexus doesnt come with wallet as standard. only the nexus s 4g has it.

To be fair, I think it’s a bit far to say that Verizon is purposely slandering the Nexus name, or that this is entirely Verizon’s fault, etc. etc. etc.

We don’t really KNOW what the issue is. We don’t know if there’s a problem with the 4g radios, or a software or security bug, or if, yes, they’re simply delaying it for marketing purposes. Maybe there’s a high failure rate on the radios and they’re waiting on a new shipment of phones devoid of the line of faulty radios. It’s not uncommon in part-related issues for an item to be on a week-to-week shipment/build cycle. It could just be taking them forever.

To be honest, I pretty much agree; I think it is Verizon just being over-zealous about releasing the damn thing. My point being, we’re all freaking out about “Confirmed” release dates, putting Verizon on their heels, when they haven’t so much as even announced an official date yet. Internal information and leaks, yes, but there’s never been so much as a peep about it to the masses.

  • Nate B.

To be honest, the Galaxy Nexus no longer matters.

    • _AjD

I completely agree, maybe it was important months ago (October?) when it was announced but now the hardware just looks dated and it still isn’t available. #FAIL

      • keridel

how does the hardware look dated? genuine question as it is all still top line tech..

      • thechad

        well said

  • Billy

    What’s a Nexus?

  • ramenchef

And this is why you never ever release a CDMA Nexus device. Verizon exerts way too much control over their devices. The whole purpose of a Nexus device is to be free from carrier restrictions.

  • AvatarZ

I can only hope Google gets mad and bashes Verizon in the press – the delay is frustrating, but having no information is worse

  • Deeds

Nobody cares about a white razr, we want Galaxy Nexus!

      Girl: “They changed Malibu Stacy!”
Girl: “She is better than ever!”
Lisa: “She still embodies all the awful stereotypes she did before!”
Smithers: “But she’s got a new hat.”

  • nwilliam3

I just talked to my local Verizon store (Premium Retailer) that told me they were informed on a conference all this morning that the Galaxy Nexus will be released tomorrow. He said that their stock is set to arrive via FedEx today. He took my name, confirmed the price @ $299 for 32GB and said that they would hold one back for me to pick-up tomorrow morning.

Obviously, this could still fall apart, but I have more hope than I have about previous release dates.

  • Kaote

Another DROID release and another snub for the NEXUS, does Verizon honestly not think we can see their intentions. Should have been a TMO release.

  • Jim

Some of us went and got a new phone early, since Verizon’s extended holiday return period (until early Jan) appeared to be well in advance of when the Nexus would be available.

Now the Nexus launch is creeping uncomfortably close to that date.

  • Justin

So far my decision to give up on waiting for the Nexus and order the RAZR is looking better each day. The RAZR will get ICS, it has – arguably – a better hardware design, and it’s actually available. I am appalled at how Verizon has treated the Galaxy Nexus release and the next time around will consider the other carriers – I had no choice but to stick with Verizon this time.

  • Louis A

Like I said before, y’all just need to forget about the galaxy nexus cuz verizon crewed it up way too much. Don’t post anything about it and when ever it happens, it be “feel” new and surprising.

  • amgala

I think the fact that there is no VZW advertising of this phone is a true sign of it not launching this week. VZW puts BIG bucks behind advertising, especially for a phone of this nature, so things aren’t looking good.

    • amgala

I’d so glad I was wrong in this case!

  • Wayne

I’ve been informed by my local corporate Verizon store that it is launching tomorrow. They have told me this on several occasions. I will be there first thing in the morning whether or not I hear anything from Verizon HQ.

  • ajonrichards

Its worth remembering that Verizon and their “DROID” launches and marketing campaigns have done an excellent job of propelling Android, and Android’s high end phones, into the spotlight. Its a bit frustrating to hear no news about the Galaxy Nexus, but I least wouldn’t fault them for prioritizing their Droid phones over a handset that has an incredible amount of buzz at the moment.

  • jamal

This is getting out of hand. Verizon, we need the galaxy nexus, NOW.

  • Peter Dowling

Sexy phone just got sexier. I can live without NFC, and ICS is coming soon (maybe…) but other than that this phone is amazingly built. I don’t understand though why white and black are always the two options with white coming out second.

  • staryoshi

It may sound petty, but these constant delays have further validated my choice to go with the Epic 4G Touch – Plus, I couldn’t get unlimited data with Verizon, so it was win-win… Good luck to those still waiting, though.. I still want to get my hands on one and play with it.

  • ArticulateFool

Does Verizon hate Google or sometging? Maybe Apple paid them to handle the nexus like this.

  • Ilyse Rose

That’s cool and all but that’s not the phone most people are waiting for. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if people ended up just buying the Razr is Verizon can’t get their shit together and actually launch this Nexus (that really shouldn’t be called a Nexus, going by past Nexus standards).
I wish HTC still made the Nexus phone, I love HTC.

  •!/profile.php?id=583695634&ref=profile rahuly2k7

Oh No!!! It’s getting to the point where I don’t even wanna hear anything about Galaxy Nexus… I wanna know more about 2012 phones with Quad core processors…

  • NamelessTed

Any news on the Droid 4? The RAZR is nice if you don’t like a keyboard, but Verizon needs to get on the ball here are release the Droid 4 already.

  • Marcus

Verizon is really crappy at launching phones. Who cares about a white RAZR? I want my Galaxy Nexus ;(

  • thekaz

Yes!! Finally! I’ve been waiting for the Nexu– wait, what? Crap. Read the headline wrong.

  • Derrick

I was told twice earlier this week, by the store, it would be released on the 15th. I just called two minutes ago and was told it was pushed back again…such bullshit!!!

  • Dan Allen

This is an outrage. Verizon has used the exclusivity to control Android’s flagship. Why would anyone buy the Razr, Bionic, or Rezound when a superior device looms in the dusk. First Net Neutrality, Google Wallet, and ultimately the device itself.

Verizon, I hate you more by the second.
    *shows the finger*

    • Derrick

I’m with you man, but what the F can we do? To top it off, I’m having problems with my Thunderbolt, so not only do I want the Nexus but I need it as I refuse to purchase a Bionic, Razr or Rezound. I’ll say it again, such bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mclarensr

Verizon: ‘Am I aggravating you now?’
Caller on the other line: silent
    Verizon: ‘Good’

  • Jimmy13

Man this will look much better than the black one underneath a case….

  • Petru-Mugurel Lingurar

    It;s just so beautiful, sleek, elegant, high-class … I think I’m in love :)
I’m definitly willing to loose my virginity regarding android phones with this sexy little thing!
    Come to daddy baby!

  • cfvonner

Well, since I won’t qualify for an equipment upgrade from Big Red until October of 2012, I guess the Nexus should be out by then?? ;)

  • Thomas Biard

I am intrigued by the Nexus line of phones, but because I’m not up for an upgrade for another 7 months, I am putting this on the back-burner and hoping to see what’s available Q3 of 2012

    • Thomas Biard

Oh, and I’ve never quite understood the appeal of white versions of phones.

    • pritams

I second that..Now it’s getting real delayed and I would rather wait for Galaxy S3!

  • HoLfElDeR

And we still wait for the relise of galaxy

  • Hall Lo

White Droid Razr? Must be looking sexy :P
But…. *sigh* good job Verizon for screwing up the launch of Galaxy Nexus…..

  • eliander mendoza

I heard is not really white.

  • Shadowlore

All Razr bashing, and Nexus loving aside.. could someone please explain to me why there is such a draw to white phones?!!? Every electronic device I’ve ever owned that was white, has turned yellowish as it ages, and just generally shows every spec of dust, dirt, etc..etc.. on it.

I literally have no idea why ANYONE would want one… and I’m looking for a real explanation other than the iFan’s typical response of: ‘it’s not black’ (because, heaven forbid that you not try to be some special little butterfly) or ‘because it’s white’.

  • Andy_jr

    What about the Droid 4?

  • Himal Limbu

    Razr pass…Droid 4 pass…..Galaxy Nexus…mmmmm

  • Skis03

Razr seems like a really nice phone, if it had ICS I would get it. I want a white Galaxy Nexus!

  • humidity

lol Razr? What Razr? All I see is the Galaxy Nexus!

  • donger

Haha. The Verizon store here in Chicago said dec. 22nd, next thursday is the release date. I went there to pick up some Galaxy Nexus goodies.

  • Cody Hilton

Verizon is lucky they get all the cool phones

  • Marc’us H.

After seeing pics of this phone it looks like an Oreo or something. It’s half black, trimmed in white.

  • sgumer

with all the new phones that verizon gets i sometimes wish i was with them instead of sprint. they dont come out with that many cool or newer phones.

  • http://Note Uncemister

How about instead of lying and calling it the white Droid razr that they call it by it’s real name of white bezel Droid razr cause the rest if the phone is exactly the same.

  • motorola droid

I LOVE the contrast the white makes
I really like it. I think it looks much better than the black one.
