HTC EVO View 4G drops to $229, one day only

There are certainly quite a few amazing Android devices available this holiday season, but it’s still hard to find something great at a decent price. Yes, there’s the Kindle Fire or the Nook Tablet, but they simply don’t have the same Android feel that most of us have come to love.

If you’re looking for something a little more traditional, we suggest you check out the HTC EVO View 4G from Daily Steals. For today only, the Android tablet is being sold for $229 without a contract. The HTC EVO View 4G is Sprint’s variant of the HTC Flyer, which adds 4G WiMax support and 32 GB of internal storage. Anyone who may be interested needs to act fast, since the deal expires at midnight!

For now, the HTC View 4G is still running Gingerbread, but we’re expecting to see a Honeycomb update within the next few months. If you do grab the HTC View 4G, don’t forget to pick up HTC’s digital pen.

Looks like a good buy for the price!

  • zyphbear

Now that’s a great price, if I would have known ahead of time, I would have put this on my list to tell someone who was thinking of getting me a Tablet! Especially with 32GB on board!

  • stenzor

That’s a bargain! I wish I had enough money to buy all the tablets

  • moelsen8

this was on ebay daily deals as well as 1saleaday last week 3 times for around this price. i received mine last night.. for the $235 total that i paid this is an amazing little tablet.. very capable.. has its bootloader unlocked via revolutionary.. and word on the street is that honeycomb is coming (this is essentially the htc flyer on sprint, and the flyer’s getting it as we speak). i have a xoom but am loving the 7″ form factor.. and this is my first non-motorola android device–kind of neat to get this perspective. i recommend anyone looking for a budget tablet to get this.

    • Futureboy

Yep. Over the past few weeks it’s been popping up a lot of places at around $240 with a slight variation in price. Business definitely seem to be clearing these out.
Note, If you actually want to use it on Sprint with a data plan, the word on the street is that these will drop to $199 after Christmas. Though, not yet 100% confirmed, it’s a pretty safe bet that the $199 price will be on-contract.

      • Futureboy

Clarification: Expect the $199 offer to come directly from Sprint, and again, most likely on-contract.

        • moelsen8

yeah i saw that too.. it would totally be on contract at that price from a carrier. not worth it then to me. don’t see the allure of tablets and data plans.. all i need is a wifi tablet and my phone otherwise.

        • mvndaai

Buying it on contract is such a bad idea. You end up paying like 5 times as much over the contract period. That is a terrible idea.

          • Futureboy

Oh, believe me, I completely agree. I’m certainly not recommending anyone buy on contract. However, some people do buy tablet service, (for example, people that have might have plans through their employer). I was just trying to give people a head’s up that if they plan to get the contract, the price will probably drop lower.

  • Ironzey Lewis

Their website says with 2 yr agreement.

    • Anthony Domanico

      where do you see that?

      • Ironzey Lewis

it was on the Sprint website not the one posted above. I’m getting myself a view!

        • Anthony Domanico

the daily steals deal does not require sprint contract.

      • pritams

        lolz..I just said that..

    • moelsen8

you can use this without a contract. it’s just wifi-only then.

    • pritams

      Where do you see that?

      • pritams

Whoever the a**holes are to vote down my comment should know that my comment was for @Ironzey Lewis

  • thechad

man this looks like a good deal. wish i could get it for this price without a contract.

    • Ironzey Lewis

The Mobile Deals site doesn’t say anything about a contract.

    • alxrock

the deal from dailysteals should be without a contract.

under features: “You only need Sprint to use 3G/4G; Wi-Fi works without a plan”

    • moelsen8

you don’t need a contract. i bought one from 1saleaday last week at this price and use it as wifi-only. just turn off the mobile data when you get it to save battery.

  • alxrock

I wish I had money to buy a tablet right now. I’ll just have to keep entering 25 Days of Tegra contest (even though I missed out on today’s contest)

  • Elena R.

    It’s $239.99 at Ben’s Outlet :D

    • Elena R.

Oops, I didn’t see the right price, LOL… I think I need glasses xD

  • Hall Lo

Thats pretty nice deal! But too bad I m waiting for Transformer Prime :P

  • Josh

I would love some advice. I do not know much about tablets and readers, but planned on purchasing the Kindle Fire for my girlfriend. She is a big reader and loved the idea of having a reader with a few more bells and whistles. Would this be a better option for the price?

    • moelsen8

i’d pick this, but then only because i love android and the kindle fire is a fork off the android tree. it depends on what you like and what you’ll use it for. if you’re new to android devices and/or tablets, you may want to go for the kindle fire–all of amazon’s services are integrated nicely it seems. but if you intend you use it for apps and games or you already have a bunch purchased from the android market, it only has amazon’s app store, which is nice, but it’s not quite as good and doesn’t have as many apps as the official android market, in my opinion. i think they’re both nice options, and i was considering the fire for a little while until i saw this. it just depends on what you like and how you’ll use it.

      • Josh

Thank you for your quick reply. We are both Android users from the very beginning and love it. She was quite adamant by saying she does not want another device that does the same stuff as our phones, she is really looking for a reader with extras. I would jump on this if it is equal to the Fire in everything the Fire is capable of, plus being a better device all around. Does that make sense?

        • mvndaai

I think the real question is if she is a reader and has an amazon prime account. If so get the KindleFire for the free book rentals.

          • Josh

She is a huge reader and we will be purchasing an Amazon Prime account. I think I am still leaning towards the Fire. Thank you for your feedback!

          • phaet2112

You still can get free books via the Kindle app…

        • moelsen8

sounds like the fire would be good for you then.

        • Nick Gray

I’d say you take her to Best Buy and let her play with both. The Kindle Fire is nice, but the EVO View 4G does all of the same things and more. Since this tablet has digital pen support, it has a unique feature that other tablets and phones don’t have. I’ve been using mine for work (meeting notes, memos, and word processing) and it should get even better once Honeycomb rolls out.

          • Josh

Thanks, Nick! Yeah, good idea. I should let her be the judge.

    • aranea

Personally I prefer to read on e-ink screens that on LCDs. The backlight hurts my eyes especially after looking at a computer screen over the day at work. For just reading books and stuff get a Nook touch. I have it and love it.

  • ordio

Thanks for the heads up… need to think about this one.

  • Louis A

    Damn, what’s up with that??

  • Samar

I wish, they were shipping it to Canada.

  • aranea

I’d rather wait one with ICS.

  • Billy

Hmmm … I wouldn’t mind ‘View’ing this in my little hands. I do really like the idea of pen input and hope to see a great degree of tablets that support more precise input methods.

I want to be able to replace pen and paper in meetings with a tablet. Written notes along with video and or pictures dated and tagged according to project and meeting (and searchable). I want the handwriting capability to be akin to writing on paper.

and I want it all in a modern tablet design (ipad 2, Galaxy tab 10.1 etc…)

I see a future in the business and academic (students) world but would require a fusion of the right software/hardware. This is a start though.

  • lufy0000

anyway to unlock it so it can be used by other company other than sprint?

  • jst4tim

Great deal very tempting. Just to have a tablet in that price range from what it’s original price make this even more tempting.

  • Thomas Biard

Excellent deal, especially for a 32Gb machine. I love that tablets are now getting more competitive on pricing. There was always a huge jump between the $99 “Android Tablet” and the $400-500 premium tablets.

This is starting to resemble the Laptop market about 6 or 7 years ago. YAY

  • HoLfElDeR

wish this coud hapen in my country

  • kimminer1

tempting but i am waiting for better scree quality and lighter wt.

  • Ilyse Rose

This is way too tempting for me, especially because I really wanted a Flyer. Damn my being a student with no money

  • McLovin

Back to Amazon the Kindle Fire does go! LOL

  • behzadbayat

The device is bulky but hey the price good and low, and i like the support of the guys in htc.

    • moelsen8

it’s actually not as bulky as you’d think it was.. i was really surprised.. the picture of it up top that’s used on these sites makes it look thick.. like original samsung galaxy tab thick.. but it’s not. it’s not paper thin, but it actually feels really nice.

  • honourbound68

im really thinking about this too but performance scores of the chip isn’t as good as dual cores.. so im on the fence.. someone help?

    • moelsen8

i like it, but then again i have a xoom too.. i’m making this my official coffee table tablet for anyone to use (not just my toy, like the xoom is). you can tell it’s not dual-core (or at least bleeding edge) but it’s zippy enough and a pretty polished, capable device all around. only had mine a day but from what i’ve done so far i’m happy. if you go for it, bens outlet actually has it at $219.99 + free shipping i just saw:

      • honourbound68

Thanks. I decided to buy it. Hope it gets hc and/or ics.

        • moelsen8

yeah no problem, hope i was helpful. let me know what you think.

  • ramenchef

Sounds like a good deal for people looking for a cheaper tablet.

  • Zeratoda1

Does Anyone Know if it will update to ICS cause other wise i shall join the Autobots and get myself a Transformer Prime :D

  • laosgurllynn

Thats a steal. Wish I did have money for it, but hopefully the deal comes back around when I do have money for it.

  • awundrin

Nice price! I am hoping that tablet prices overall begin to drop in 2012 so that more people can afford them. Most are out of my price range!

  • sgumer

this is a great price for a tablet. i hope it is as good as it looks. not sure though because i have the evo 4g phone and the battery life is no good at all.

  • Danthes24

It was a great price I feel bad now that i missed it..:(

  • Ironzey Lewis

Has anyone received a shipping notice? I ordered one yesterday but haven’t gotten an email.

  • tonis79

Ben’s Outlet has it for $219 with free shipping. Looks like a pretty sweet deal for the price, and it says they still have 55% in stock. If I needed a tablet I would jump on this.

  • Jackie @ freeismylife

I got in on this deal and mine just arrived in the mail. I love that it is a full android tablet with 32 GB of storage. I bought the Kindle Fire, but I am exhausted with sideloading apps and I don’t like having to use the mobile versions of gmail and docs because Amazon won’t apply the apps to run on the Fire without rooting the device. The Fire and the EVO View are the same size and almost the same weight so I am very happy with my purchase.

    • Ironzey Lewis

      It shipped overnight?

      • Jackie @ freeismylife

I bought a similar deal on for the same price on on 12/8. It shipped on 12/12 and I received it on 12/15.

    • honourbound68

Just bought it. Hope mine arrives promptly. Love for it to get here before Xmas.

  • Derek

Do NOT buy anything from daily steals….EVER!!! They are the crooks. And they have absolutely NO customer support. They do not package anything, they ship in the retail packaging only. It takes 1-2 weeks to just process your order.

    Buy at your own risk.

    • DroidPower

I agree with Derek. I bought a set of keyboard, mouse, and speakers from them and the entire set was non-usable when arrived. The backs of the devices had their S/N’s all blacked out with a sharpie… I think more often than not their products will have higher risk of being defective.

But back to the deal, it’s a great price for the device! And it looks like from the comments that some people already got it and are enjoying it. Good find.

    • DQM_Productions

Wish I had seen this a few days ago. I ordered this from them, and already have a feeling I’m going to have trouble. (Their website is “hinky”, shall we say…)

      • DQM_Productions

I received yesterday. It seems new and I’ve been using it almost 12 hrs now with no trouble.

Also, in case no one knows this, it comes loaded with 2.3.4 (Gingerbread), then there’s an immediate OTA that did the security update that preceded the Carrier IQ fiasco. Then there was another OTA that updates to *3.2 (Honeycomb)*. I downloaded it, but haven’t installed it yet because I’m not clear I like Honeycomb all that much. (It’s on my Xoom.)

  • Dan Jones

That’s quite a great deal. Too bad I don’t have the extra cash to afford it right now.

  • mrbill187

If this thing ever gets ICS it might be a move.

  • Eric Wilborn

    Great price

  • Melissa

I want! Especially with no contract. :(

  • ccn_cristi

Great deal, no contract, HTC hardware and Sense UI bliss!

  • Martjn2

    Wow that’s a cheap tablet!

  • Danny Calderon

If it’s that price without a 2yr contract its good, but companies like motorola and samsung keep selling their tabs at 499 or more even when you sign a 2yr contract.

    • Ironzey Lewis

I don’t think it’s the manufacturers selling it but the service providers. They are selling these tablets with little or no subsidies. As far as tablets go I would not buy one on contract $30/month (for service) after work years is over $700 add the cost of the device to begin with and you are looking, in most cases, over $1000. If we were talking laptops then maybe I would be on board but the way this segment of the market is evolving (so quickly) your $1000 tablet is going to be old hat in 6 month. After 12 months it’ll be left in the dust by the latest and greatest.

    • Sean the Electrofreak

If you get a WiFi-only View 4G then yes, it’s without a 2-year contract, because how could you sign a service contract when you’re not using a mobile carrier?

      • Ironzey Lewis

The one for sale is without contract. IMO that is the best way to go. You have the option to activate service without the commitment. I’ve been very curious about how much I would use a tablet with a 3g/4g connection. You are also getting a great deal on the device.

  • techvudu

I picked one up. Not much for development but hopefully that changes with the surge of devices sold. Too bad the radios/chipset in the View vary too much from the Flyer, roms are not compatible. But I would expect to see some goodness coming soon from all these deals.

  • Lee Swanson

Sounds like a great tablet, just not excited about the contract.

    • azswift

it was without a contract. I’ve seen it on also for a simliar price. Just need to watch for the prices.

  • PaulPaulson

Pretty good deal at $220 without a contract. I always liked the flyer but the price is a joke.

  • humidity

    Dang it! I missed it!

  • donger

    pretty cheap.

  • Gnuelnab

    looks like a nice tablet

  • dirt_squirrel

my HTC Raider is damn near as big, so these devices almost seem moot to me.

  • DQM_Productions

I left this as a reply above, but I’ll repeat here so you might all see it: I received mine from DailySteals yesterday. It seems new and I’ve been using it for 12 hrs now with no trouble.

Also, in case no one knows this, it comes loaded with 2.3.4 (Gingerbread), then there’s an immediate OTA that did the security update that preceded the Carrier IQ fiasco. THEN there was another OTA that updates to *3.2 (Honeycomb)*, so for those who weren’t sure it was going to happen, it has.

    • Ironzey Lewis

good to hear, I cancelled my order cause I wasn’t getting a warm fuzzy from Dailysteals. They sent the refund promptly I guess I made a bad choice.

      • DQM_Productions

I did the Honeycomb update. It’s kind of buggy; investigating a way back to unrooted Gingerbread.

  • azswift

Just got mine and did the Honeycomb update. No issues yet. It’s a gift so I haven’t been playing with it other than adding a bunch of apps.
