Galaxy Nexus to be Sprint’s flagship 4G LTE phone?

This rumor comes completely out of left field. A sidebar ad running on Cnet’s site suggests that not only will the Galaxy Nexus indeed come to Sprint (as had been previously rumored), it will serve as Sprint’s first 4G LTE device. What’s more, it seems to be an enhanced version of the Galaxy Nexus, with a 1.5 GHz processor.

Sprint is hard at work putting their LTE network together, with Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and Atlanta all set to go live in the first half of 2012. We can think of no better phone than the Galaxy Nexus to lead the way for Sprint, as it is hands down the best Android phone on the market today.

We’ve reached out to Sprint for comment or confirmation, and will update this post when/if we hear back from Sprint. In the mean time, go ahead and speculate below how awesome this would be if it proved true.

Opps! Someone pushed this ad live a little early perhaps?

    Tmobile what are you doing?!

Becoming more and more obsolete. DUH.

They’re diving off of a diving board into their vault of money that they’re getting from AT&T! What else would they be doing? If you just got that much money, would you be doing much of anything other than retiring initially? ;-)

      • sunrise

The 3 billion in cash break-up fee from At&t did NOT go to T-mobile USA. The 3 billion cash portion of the 4-billion Break-up fee went to parent company Deutsche Telekom in Germany where CEO Rene Obermann has already said the funds would be used to reduce their net debt which is reported to be in the BILLIONS.

3 billion dollars is not a lot of money when at the end of the day you are still nearly 30-40 billion in debt.

It’s like you personally being in debt for 50 million dollars and I give you a hundred grand, will that get you out of debt?

The remaining 1billion of the 4billion break-up fee will be in Roaming agreements here in the US between T-Mobile USA and At&t.

The full pdf from Germany is here:

It was a joke. I don’t really seriously believe they’re pulling a Scrooge McDuck. ;-)

      • http://htcsource.com Nick Gray

Too bad none of that money from AT&T is actually going to T-Mobile. All the money is going to deutsche telekom over in Germany.

if you want something you have to go and get it.. the gnex was 550 on a site yesterday 100 percent compatible with tmo. put it on a card or something and you will actually pay less than what you would for it over a 2 year contract

      • Anthony44

Darn right big merf .i paid 685 two weeks ago and havent been sorry one day yet.

      • Mark

Not everyone has 550 – 700 laying around.

        • BiGMERF

On December 1st I started putting 10 dollars away every week in what I call my #Nexus fund. By next November I should have near 500 dollars for the next version. Id much rather keep that ten dollars in my bank collecting interest than giving to a carrier!

Thank you, Someone with some sense! That’s what the Value Plans are for.

      • kazahani

I don’t have the ability to use T-mobile because they don’t cover my area. If the other carriers gave you a cheaper monthly price for bringing your own phone, then I would do it, but they don’t.

    • CTown

Last I heard they were putting 84 mbps HSPA+ on the same frequency that other GSM carriers use!

    • LukeT32

This must be punishment to VZW for sucking at their launch… I want an overclocked Nexus out of the box… :’(

  • Joshua Barta

Yes. Hell, yes. Hell f*****g yes!

    • poosh2010

I was so happy I almost cried when I saw this article.

    • mac08wrx

That was exactly what my reaction was. I can’t [email protected]#$%^G wait the count down begins.

  • spazby

I am eligible for an upgrade in august…. Hopefully la will be covered by then…

    • http://www.lament.us lament

They’ll have better phones by then. ;)

  • Zach Dunton

I was thinking about this the other day. It seemed like a logical leap. New LTE and vague rumors of a Sprint Galaxy Nexus. Seems like a good fit.

  • Arturo Castro

Even though this is amazing news, By the time this comes out, there’ll be better phones out there.

    • http://www.jaxidian.org/update/ jaxidian

Better hardware? Possibly. Better phone once you consider the developer community? Your guess is as good as mine.

  • http://www.jaxidian.org/update/ jaxidian

Wow, this is great news for people on Sprint! And honestly, this is great news for people on Verizon if Sprint is REALLY serious about their LTE network. I’m sure many of you are getting about as fed up as I am with Verizon and their recent policies over the past ~1.5 years…

  • triangle

Nice job, Sprint. Get a great LTE handset and then fill in the LTE network.

  • cwjones4

I would gladly take a galaxy nexus on an unlimited LTE network for my upgrade. really hope this is true and it’s released soon!

  • nrorm

I want to switch now, but not up until June—-until then my rooted evo3d will do just nicely. Then things get interesting: new Evo (we know there will be one in June) or go with a 6-month old Nexus?

  • enoch161

At least Sprint is finally getting LTE with a top-end smartphone. As long as their LTE is competitive, they have potential.

  • Gerard

Glad I held out and wtg Sprint…love my nexus can’t wait for the nexus galaxy

  • Ecarttev

And i just got my Epic touch…
    Ah well.

    • http://htcsource.com Nick Gray

Don’t you have a 30 money back guarantee? Take the phone back and wait and see what’s announced at CES.

      • Ecarttev

Nah, just the 14 day standard Satisfaction Guarantee (literally got it yesterday).
I think I will do that, thank you for reminding me of that feature of sprint.

  • Lazaro

if this hits sooner than later, I’ll actually leave Tmobile for Sprint.

    • http://www.raymatthew.tumblr.com RayMatthew

Do it! I did it and never looked back; the everything plan is worth it.

  • http://www.raymatthew.tumblr.com RayMatthew

YES! Even though us Sprint Nexus S 4G users, still don’t have an official OTA to 4.0.3. I can’t wait to upgrade to this bad boy!
Sprint is finally doing something right! (:

  • seven2k

    YES! YES! and YES!

  • poosh2010

I was so happy when I saw this….but then I realized the samsung galaxy s3 will probably be released ~2 months after the nexus comes to sprint. I think the s3 will be worth the wait, especially with a better camera and better screen (super amoled plus HD). decisions decisions…

    • Orion78

I’m with you on that one. The Galaxy S III is the one I’m waiting for. Hopefully it comes sooner this time. Still, I’m glad Sprint is finally getting the Nexus.

  • userx

I left Sprint for Tmobile 2 days ago. Got a GS2 in White for 99$. Have 4.2mb download speed, where as my sprint had 0.6mb download speed. And nexus being the best device? I have ICS on my NS4G, and between the speed and awesomeness of the GS2 compared to the awesomeness of ICS. Sprint can go suck on a tailpipe. Ill stay with Tmobile until Sprint can find it in their hearts to deliver broken promises for the Motor City capital. ftw.

    • aj

How did u get ics on your GSII?

Right now im running the beastmod rom.

  • Ryan

This is MY phone. I don’t really care if I have an update when this is official (I probably won’t since Sprint changed their 1 year for gold members rule) I am getting this.
I live in the ONE town that has Sprint LTE (Kankakee!!) so I don’t have to sit and wait for WiMax anymore!!
    Can you tell I’m excited!!!11!one!

  • David Keller

Replace Sprint with T-Mobile and I’d be a REALLY happy customer!

  • http://www.infotainmentempire.com pekosROB

As frustrated as I’ve become lately with my Droid 3, I really wish I could get one of these off contract. You think anyone would pay $300 for a D3? Even if they did, I’d still have to pay close to $400 for it off contract after sales tax. Sigh.

  • http://www.openintro.com OpenIntro

Well there goes my 1 month old Galaxy SII. See ya buddy!

  • Nathan D.

Well hopefully every carrier gets one

  • Oskar Wismierski

Why only US then? Give it to Europe.. -.-

  • teudster

I should be happy, but how is this promise different from the Evo 4G promise which I actually believed and pre-ordered :-(. So come June I am going to buy an LTE device based on the promised of future LTE network. Who am I kidding ? I think they sold me already !

  • txbluesman

I guess I have something to look forward to here in the Dallas area on Sprint. LTE……sweet! Bring it!

  • david
  • Wilson Lara

Would this Nexus Be using both LTE and Wimax?

    • http://droidsamurai.blogspot.com DroidSamurai

If you want its battery suck even more than the LTE+CDMA version, your wish is granted.

Seriously, trust me, you don’t want that.

  • http://droidsamurai.blogspot.com DroidSamurai

Sprint, the Nexus is the phone you should spend billions on, not the iSh*t.

  • Hall Lo

    Wait 1.5GHz? Nice!! :D

  • dclaryjr

My excitement over this is tempered by the realization that it will probably be a long time before I’ll see LTE in my small market. If the Galaxy Note makes it to Sprint prior to the Nexus, I may still be tempted to go that way. My big fat thumbs would love that big screen!

  • yankeesusa

By June my upgrade will be available and hopefully htc will have an lte quadcore phone. If not then the nexus it will be. But I’m sure that there wil be other lte phones by then. Its going to be a tough choice.

  • josegb2011

Im a bit upset by this because i would feel cheated that sprints gn would get a faster cpu from verizons ..not a big difference but the extra power helps…..i still love mines either way..cant complain is a nexus

    • redraider133

If this isn’t a typo most likely google would release an update for other galaxy nexus to run at 1.5ghz since they would have the same Processor

  • http://youtube.com/user/jawckamoe Marcus

I honestly think it’s real. I think a phone that went on a different carrier than intended had an improved CPU. I forgot which phoniness though… but I’d love to see the Galaxy Nexus come to AT&T.

  • Richard Yarrell

People on sprint should be happy this is a great device espically on Verizon….

  • ainen

This is awesome and all but I’m going to hold off on my upgrade until I see some Tegra 3 phones.

  • http://k-selezneva.blogspot.com/ KatSelezneva

I suggest summarizing what this outgoing year 2011 has become for the world of mobile technologies.
324 million smartphones were sold during three quarters of this year all over the world.
Come to see more! 2011 results for the mobile development world http://k-selezneva.blogspot.com/2012/01/2011-results-for-mobile-development.html

  • T1392

A 1.5ghz processor, makes this more of a beast than it already is. Wonder how sprint’s LTE will match up against ATT & Verizon LTE. Hopefully no outtage like vzw. Smh

    • yankeesusa

I think it will be very similar to verizon and att. Of course att seems to be faster because not that many markets are out and not that many people have lte phones. I also think they will have less problems than verizon since sprint is introducing a new system and they have been testing it way before releasing it. Of course in the real world when thousands of people are jumping from tower to tower that will be another story. I’m just hoping that sprint is true to what they say and that by 2013 they will start upgrading to lte advanced which will be even faster.
Of course I’m just looking forward to having a decent 3g signal! Something I used to get years ago with my original touch and touch pro and even the touch pro 2.

  • DroidPower

Sprint is stepping up its game! What happened to the rumors that they might get exclusive rights to LTE iphones? Guess ANDROID WINS AGAIN! can’t wait for the upgraded nexus!

  • Numbertwo

Unlocked galaxy nexus on Tmobile is good enough for me until gs III

  • sylar

Its nice that they are getting the phone but I really wish that when they changed the specs on a phone because then it is not entirely the same phone anymore it is different form all the other versions out there.

  • zuberpower

I am told that the companies can choose to scale the processor batter back to allow better battery life that is why one carrier may have a slower processor but yet the same phone.

What options does it have for business men? it it a double screen or one?
