Motorola Xyboard Wi-Fi Tablets rolling out today

Folks looking to get their hands on the Wi-Fi Motorola Xyboard 8.2″ and 10.1″ tablets, the wait is over. Though the device has been up for preorder for a few weeks now, the follow up to the Xoom tablet is now shipping from Motorola’s website.

Starting today, customers who order the Xyboard will be treated to free two-day shipping on their orders. The pricing for the Wi-Fi models range from $399.99 for the 16 GB 8.2″ model to $599.99 for the 32GB 10.1″ model.

Highlights of the Motorola Xyboard include:

  • Android 3.2 Honeycomb at launch
  • 8.2- or 10.1-inch IPS display with Gorilla Glass
  • 1.2 GHz dual-core OMAP4 processor
  • 5 MP rear camera
  • 1.3 MP front facing camera
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 16 GB or 32 GB internal storage

Frankly, unless you’re a big fan of the form factor of the Xyboard, we can’t see much of a justification for plopping down $400 to $600 on a tablet, especially when you’re putting these devices on shelves next to the Transformer Prime ($500 and $600, same as Xyboard) and upcoming 7″ Tegra 3 MeMO 370T at $250.

If you’ve still got your heart set on the Xyboard, you can head over to Motorola’s site to order your shiny new Android tablet. Anyone planning on picking one of these up? Which model?

Not interested, Asus has an upper hand on both Prime and MeMO… C’mon Google, do something good with Motorola

I have an OG Tab 7.0 WiFi and the 7″ screen is a bit small for my tastes, especially since I predominately use it for internet consumption. And I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the 10.1″ 16:9 screens, as it’s nearly impossible to thumb type even for my huge hands. Therefore, my plans had been to pick up the 8.2″ Xyboard, since it’s almost right in between for size. But, with Sony dropping the cost of their 8.9″ S Tablet to $399 for the 16Gb version, I am leaning towards that one instead. That is unless anyone knows of a Tegra 3 tablet that’s due to release in the coming month in that 8″ range.

Have you not heard of the split-keyboard options? This allows you to thumb type, even on larger tablets.

Anyone who researches their purchases online will see what a waste of money this unit is

This is a perfect size, bigger than a phone but not clown shoes like 10.1.

This product is about 6 months too late and $100 overpriced. Don’t waste your money people.

To say the least, I’m both confused and surprised that many of the pricing structures haven’t changed that much in response to how well the Kindle Fire has been doing, and all the buzz the MeMo has been receiving.

Is it me, or does it seem as if the manufacturer’s are tone-deaf to what the streets are saying and just making up inflated price points just because they can.

I wish them luck, but in all seriousness, I won’t be surprised (and neither should they) if they don’t move as many units as they think they are based on what we know is in the pipeline.

I want a Google Nexus Tablet (if it ever comes…), or at least a tablet born with ICS

I can’t think of one scenario where there isn’t a better device option that this to meet one’s needs/desires.
Sadly, the cost Moto will incur over this epic fail will ultimately be passed back down to their consumers… which is why I’m glad I’m not one :)

And as always, non US customers should consider Motorolas abysmal support of the original Xoom. Europeans should take a look at the Transformer Prime instead.

  • uknowme

Seems like a waste of money to me.

I hate to say this … but I still struggle to get past the name. Once I did … I was underwhelmed. Come on Moto! You can do better.

  • lokidokie

Will they sell ANY of these?!

Hardly anyone talk about apps build-in in the device. Asus has a lot of good apps come with their products, such as full version of Polaris Office, “My Library” integrate all your ebooks(including Kindle) in one app, email too. Best is Asus gives tablet user a 8GB cloud service for free and the app to sync, share, etc. How do other tablets’ apps?
I stick with my Transformer Prime, maybe get a MeMo later.

  • K2theIzzo

Asus set the bar too high with their Transformer Prime, bugs and all. I’ll pass.

1/27/2012: According to Motorola they are not looking at an Android OS update at present. Nor is it in the works.
