Is this the Motorola Atrix 3 with quad-core Tegra 3?

Almost a year ago, there were rumors that Motorola was working on a pair of smartphones powered by Tegra 3. Our friend Kellen of Droid-Life reported these were codenamed Bullet and Jet. Since then no information has leaked and we thought the projects were dead, but now details have appeared of a device claiming to be the Motorola Atrix 3.

Italian site HDblog is reporting that Chinese site Tianjin shared the first picture and specs of the Atrix 3. Some are already saying this is just a concept phone, so don’t get your hopes up yet. However, the timing and purported specs are at least believable.

Rumored specs of the Atrix 3 include:

  • Android 4.0
  • Quad-core Tegra 3 processor
  • 4.3 inch 1280 x 720 display
  • 10 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 3,300 mAh battery

Motorola has recently been sourcing their application processors from Texas Instruments, but they have partnered with NVIDIA in the past. The original Motorola Atrix was powered by Tegra 2, along with the Motorola Xoom tablet.

Mobile World Congress 2012 is shaping up to become the quad-core phone show, so we wouldn’t be terribly surprised if this device actually makes an appearance. We were expected to see Motorola’s first Android phone with an Intel processor, but it’s possible we could see multiple devices.

With 2 GB RAM and a 3,300 mAh battery, the Atrix 3 would instantly become one of the most anticipated Android phones.

I’d buy it. This coming from a LG devotee

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

      LG phones have devotees?

      • Julian Rafael1

Yes. Even if it’s just me

      • AmericanJedi001

        “LG phones have devotees?”

        LOL! Now that’s funny.

    • Lawrence Taylor (ex-NFL star and rapist)

Wow, it looks like a brick. No thx.

      • Jason

I love the monolith look (I own a GNex). My only problem with this is the “Motorola” branding across the front.

    • LukeT32

Wouldn’t mind dropping the Gnex for this.

  • Rory Oldham

Those are some ridiculous specs. Sounds awesome.

    • spazby

      Love that battery

      • delinear

Hope this means a trend for bigger batteries in the future.

    • Steve Barry

Agreed here. If it comes with SD card slot and has an unlocked bootloader, I’m all about it.

    • aranea

The specs are good but look at the fact that ICS is not a sure thing. When I got my first generation Atrix GB was supposed to come soon. And it took them 7 months to bring the update. The ICS update will be who knows when. Motorola still tries to release new phones every month than to keep supporting them in a timely manner.

Mr Wimbet, I hate you !! Your going to have a blast at MWC !! So much exiting news leaking out

  • nateysmith

Seriously there are some pretty sick phones coming out this year. This could really give the HTC one X a run for it’s money.

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Hellooooooooooooooooo MOTO! . . . I’ll tell ya’ll this right now. If MOTO is the only one pumping out 3300mah Batteries . . . A Moto Device WILL be my next phone… I’m done playing with these Manufacturers especially HTC with their Rumored 1800mah BS battery

    • co.ag.2005

it’s definitely the right course. now unlock them bootloaders! :)

    • Jeff Pan

      Lol! Yah

    • jay miller

Now we get it a network that starts with a T…

    • jay miller

Now if we could get it on a network that starts with a T…

  • Stuart

I’m not convinced by nVidia at all, they were first out with dual core and rode that wave but none of the products were spectacular. Now out with the first quad core with everyone jumping on it too. I can’t wait for Samsung to bring out quad core and beat nVidia at their own game against with better quality.

As for this phone, it does look great and I love Motorola hardware… What I don’t love is their poor screens and locked bootloaders, oh and crap ui

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

I mean most of the new devices being announced are Tegra 3 . . . I think Sammy may have missed the boat this cycle with Quad Cores… I’m guessing the first phone will be the SGS3

  • Alexander drzfr3shboialex

I want this on T-Mobile :D. Beast phone, imagine the SG3

    • elijahblake

I’m pretty sure it will be on AT&T just like the Atrix 1 and 2..

    • serivolk

Since when has Moto graced T-mobile with anything good, I am on T-mobile as well so I hope something with similar specs makes it way to us in the near future.

  • Paul

Please have a physical camera button & be able to take photos as quickly as the New Sony Xperia S.

  • spookz

HOOLY (SHH)DROID!!! Thats one of a beast! If this thing works on GSM i will consider it.

    • Bpear96

AHh considering the atrix 1 and 2, were on at&t and at&t only, id say that yes this will be GSM

  • blt

    do want!!! :O

  • Jorge Vieira

3300! That alone is worth it. I hope that this is real, I loved the Atrix 2! And this looks like a true high end phone! Motto UI is surprisingly good can’t wait for there ICS.

  • swazedahustla

Nope………Bootloader will be locked down. No way No Moto!!!

  • eve922

  • NotRelevant

Now this phone would be awesome if was gonna come with pure Android. But everyone knows that won’t happen, so this device will suck.

  • amgala

I wonder where they got their design inspiration from?

*Looks over at his Galaxy Nexus…*

  • ashclepdia

if this comes unlocked(able) it would be amazing…wonder if it will be available on vzw this time also…

good to see someone putting 2gb ram with a quad core, and damn, that battery, 3300mah?! wonder what the extended battery would be!! lol
that thing would be almost ad powerful as my netbook!

  • http://theinternet-allofit.blogspot.com Jorge Branco

Surely even Moto(don’t call it blur) couldn’t destroy a phone with 2GB of ram? Could it?

    I’m not so confident.

    • http://www.infotainmentempire.com pekosROB

      hahahaha agreed.

  • Grandmaster

I believe this is the phone we’ve all been waiting for!! Hopefully this merge with Google would make them want to put vanilla ICS on it

  • Lavi

Wow! That’s the phone I want.
Tegra 3, 4.3 inch, 10 megapixel camera, 2 GB RAM, 3,300 mAh battery

Hope there will be a SD card too.

  • BigCiX

Nice specs. I would only hope for a 4.5 inch screen though

  • fletchtb

Sounds like a pretty sick phone. I can’t wait to see the specs of the phone that eventually replaces my Galaxy Nexus

  • Nathan D.

    sweet phone

  • http://www.infotainmentempire.com pekosROB

Hey Taylor, I think his name is Kellex.

But anyway, I was a big fan of Motorola for awhile… then they started releasing phones like crazy and are taking forever to update said phones after they made their “we’ll try to update within 6 weeks of Google.” And then they said they would unlock bootloaders but haven’t. What gives, Moto?

The phone still sounds like a nice set up though, just don’t want to see Motorola not keeping up with its promises. The reason I steered away from Samsung the last 2 years is due to the fact they used to take forever (or never) in updating some of their devices. This has since changed for the most part – I really want Moto to succeed, in fact I want all Android devices to succeed. If only Moto would keep up on their promises, all of my concerns would completely evaporate from my mind.

    • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

His real name is Kellen. He is a friend of mine :)

  • Craig Mogi

I agree with pekosROB, if Motorola would update their devices faster, and include less blur/crapware then I’d stick with them. That being said, I hope they included a biometric sensor in this one since they left it out of the Atrix 2, and lets face it, that was one of the major ‘ahhhh’ points of the Atrix 4G. This phone sounds pretty sweet.

  • ArticulateFool

I’m very happy to see the buttons on the bottom go away. The phones look a million times better without them.

    • Jöran Schlömer

Exactly. I don’t know why HTC seems to be keeping them. ICS has onscreen buttons, why not use it? A 4,7″ screen without hardware buttons is okay. But a 4.7″ screen WITH hardware buttons? No thank you!

  • inviolable

    She’s sexy

  • Jöran Schlömer

Looking good. Awesome specs. If this turns out to be true, I sure as hell will buy one of those beasts :D Loving the 3300mAh

  • Bryan Stoner

WHOA BABY! 3,300 mAh. Doesn’t the SGNote have a 2,500 mAh battery? That’s insane! And 2 GB RAM. And Tegra 3! This really is looking to be quite the beast XD

  • Ps3y3Ops

If the rumored specs turn out to be true, then this is my next. Otherwise, I’d just like to kick Moto in their friggin’ LOCKED BOOTLOADER!

  • Hall Lo

Looks like Motorola is trying to put a huge battery in the phones its making now ;D
I would want this phone if its real!

  • jamal adam

I’ll take a 3300 mAh battery any day.

  • update

Now Google ownz motorola only thing motorola need is pure android and timely update. 3300 battery is a killer.

Please keep the update coming like Nexus then we can screw samsung screw htc screw lg screw sony and every other android manufacture who don’t bring timely update to their devices.

  • TBash

Anyone else noticing the no capacitive buttons? ICS anyone?

  • greeny42

    Hmm… Nexusrolla?

  • Richard Yarrell

Personally I am game for the battery that’s BOSS. Otherwise it’s the Galaxy Nexus all the way.

  • RRR

This was the closest to IDEAL phone spec for 2012 which is

    - 4-core
    - Full day battery
    - HD 1200×720
    - 1+ GB RAM
    - ICS and later possibly Windows8
    - SuperAMOLED+ or IPS
    - 5″+ screen size
    - 1080p recording
    - Doc

I’d prefer 5″+ screen (which would also allow to make the phone thinner)

    • RRR

typo: should be 1280×720. For larger screens could be even larger to meet PPI > 300

    • LDS

Larger screen = thinner? Where is that coming from? Larger screen require more protection ( structurally) which can translate to thicker or more expensive materials ( Rzr)

    • KC

You have to include NFC for this device.

No NFC means we can’t make use of Android Beam or any of the NFC applications now hitting the world fast and hard.

If it has an external expansion slot for a microSD, then there is still hope even w/o NFC now. We’ll just wait for manufacturers to come out with NFC inbuilt into the microSD card.

  • ferg

The carriers lock the bootloader not the hardware manufacturer. This is to stop customers from tethering for free. Popular misconception uneducated consumers.

And yes, Atrix is an ATT device. This will be an amazing phone, especially with the return of NVidia. The Xoom and Atrix 1 were absolutley amazing devices when they launched.

  • MoSDeeb

I am not a fan of branding the front of the device. I especially hate carrier branding.

I only buy nexus devices and the Verizon unit I have has the terrible Verizon branding on the back. Oh well

  • T1392

Can’t wait to see what they have for Verizon hope it’s not a bionic2 just a plain DROID HD. Remember Verizon got the bionic with bigger screen slightly better specs (though debatable) so maybe Verizon will have bigger screen I hope.

  • Adnoxaei

My experience with the bionic makes me think it will be a terrible 720p screen, a bad high resolution camera, and will have boat loads of software flaws that make using it a miserable experience…I hope they use something as high quality as the GNex or Resound LCD, a nice camera that isn’t devoid of vivid color in sun and horrible in low light, but my experiences have still soured my desires for anything Moto. I can’t have confidence in their products.

  • Matt

If it’s locked I don’t care what the specs are or what processor it has. I enjoy roms and being rooted. With locked bootloader i wouldn’t take it unless was free with no contract. Motorola will continue to stink til they fix that. HTC and sammy make good phones without that.

  • casper2287

Really Motorola all those specs and you want us to look at 4.3 inch screen what are you thinking
